Book Capital Accumulation and Money

Download or read book Capital Accumulation and Money written by L.D. Taylor and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 271 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Capital, Accumulation, and Money: An Integration of Capital, Growth, and Monetary Theory is a book about capital. A root concept of capital is developed which allows for most existing concepts of capital to be unified and related to one another in consistent fashion. Such a root concept of capital offers a framework for integrating monetary and capital theory, and for analyzing the functioning of an economy, whether that economy is in a steady state of subsistence or in a process of sustainable growth. Specifically, it is shown that a conservation principle emerges that both implies and imposes a variety of constraints on the macro behavior of an economy, constraints which make for straightforward understanding and analysis of such concepts as the real stock of money, real-balance effects, and the general price level. New and illuminating insights are also provided into aggregate supply and demand, natural and money rates of interest, the relationship between real and monetary economies, and economic growth and development.

Book The Future of Capital Formation for Small and Medium Sized Enterprises

Download or read book The Future of Capital Formation for Small and Medium Sized Enterprises written by Stephane Rousseau and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 103 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) play a vital role in the Canadian economy. While the growth and success of these enterprises do not depend solely on financial support, access to financing is critical for their expansion. In this respect, public equity financing performs a crucial function among the various sources of capital in the funding of growing SMEs. From this perspective, the recent restructuring of Canadian stock exchanges which has lead to the creation of a junior stock exchange is commendable. Appropriately designed, a junior stock market can enhance the accessibility of public equity financing for SMEs by giving them access to a liquid secondary market. However, if it is to significantly improve the financing conditions of SMEs, the creation of a junior exchange must be accompanied by a revision of the current regulatory framework governing initial public offerings. As this paper shows, current securities regulation impacts on SMEs' ability to raise public equity capital. On the one hand, regulation enacts requirements which tend to burden excessively small issuers. On the other hand, it fails to correct market imperfections which raise the cost of capital for SMEs. In this context, this paper argues for reforms that will contribute to the implementation of a cost effective regulatory regime adapted to the needs and characteristics of smaller issuers.
