Book The Fulfillment of the Davidic Covenant

Download or read book The Fulfillment of the Davidic Covenant written by Patrick W. Nasongo and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2019-01-01 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The author discusses three major hermeneutical views concerning the fulfillment of the promises God made in the Davidic Covenant—that is, a house (dynasty), a kingdom (realm), and a throne (right to rule). He shows how the adherents of each view differ regarding the timing and nature of the fulfillment of each aspect. He also investigates the hermeneutical methodology of each view to determine how they arrived at their conclusions, and then he analyzes their conclusions from an exegetical perspective. Furthermore, he explains in detail and defends the view he considers to be biblical. Most of all, in an age where compromise on biblical interpretation has become the norm, he encourages his readers to interpret the Scriptures according to the normal laws of language in order to arrive at their intended meaning. I am honored to endorse this book for Patrick Nasongo. His extensive research reveals why three prominent evangelical approaches differ in their interpretations of the fulfillment of the Davidic Covenant. His analysis is fair and the reader will learn much about each methodology. Larry A. Tyler, Ph.D. Dean, Bowman School of Bible & Theology Temple Baptist Seminary

Book Self fulfillment

    Book Details:
  • Author : Alan Gewirth
  • Publisher : Princeton University Press
  • Release : 1998
  • ISBN : 0691059764
  • Pages : 246 pages

Download or read book Self fulfillment written by Alan Gewirth and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 1998 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Alan Gewirth begins by distinguishing two models of self-fulfillment - aspiration-fulfillment and capacity-fulfillment - and shows how each of these contributes to the intrinsic value of human life. He then distinguishes between three types of morality - universalist, particularist, and personalist - and shows how each contributes to the values embodied in self-fulfillment. Building on these ideas, he develops a 'dialectical' conception of reason that shows how human rights are central to self-fulfillment. Gewirth also argues that self-fulfillment has a social as well as an individual dimension: that the nature of society and the obstacles that disadvantaged groups face affect strongly the character of the self-fulfillment that persons can achieve.

Book Fulfillment of the Law

Download or read book Fulfillment of the Law written by Robbert Veen and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2006 with total page 171 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: By Robbert A. Veen. A new look at the New Testament writings may provide us with a better understanding of the positive role of the Law of Moses in early Christian ethics. If Jesus understood obedience to the Torah as part of His mission, it should be important to Christians today to acquire a taste for careful ethical discourse along the lines of Jewish "legal" thought. This book tries to show by an in-depth analysis of the gospels of Mark and Matthew and the letter of James that early Christianity did in fact accept the continuing authority of the Torah for Christian life.

Book The Duty to Obey the Law

  • Author : William Atkins Edmundson
  • Publisher : Rowman & Littlefield
  • Release : 1999
  • ISBN : 9780847692552

Download or read book The Duty to Obey the Law written by William Atkins Edmundson and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 1999 with total page 366 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The question, 'Why should I obey the law?' introduces a contemporary puzzle that is as old as philosophy itself. The puzzle is especially troublesome if we think of cases in which breaking the law is not otherwise wrongful, and in which the chances of getting caught are negligible. Philosophers from Socrates to H.L.A. Hart have struggled to give reasoned support to the idea that we do have a general moral duty to obey the law but, more recently, the greater number of learned voices has expressed doubt that there is any such duty, at least as traditionally conceived. The thought that there is no such duty poses a challenge to our ordinary understanding of political authority and its legitimacy. In what sense can political officials have a right to rule us if there is no duty to obey the laws they lay down? Some thinkers, concluding that a general duty to obey the law cannot be defended, have gone so far as to embrace philosophical anarchism, the view that the state is necessarily illegitimate. Others argue that the duty to obey the law can be grounded on the idea of consent, or on fairness, or on other ideas, such as community.
