The Lonely Detective is one of the survivors, and suddenly, hes got a new, dastardly case on his hands. Who would try to poison a man at an event intended to honor his own son? The Lonely Detective first interviews the wives, his own included, to see if any of the women had opportunity or motive. He has to face the facts: everyone is a suspect. Along the trail, there are emotional social workers concerned with the childrens mental health. There are also cautious, politically correct detectives who do nothing but get in the way. In the wives, there is no shortage of suspicion, as the Lonely Detective discovers poverty, jealousy, and vengeance. Oh, and theres the bit about a mistress. Next up are the literary agents, out for a book deal, and TV personalities, too. The dead mans memorial is replete with media and cheerleaders. Honestly, the Lonely Detective cant get a break until his case breaks itself apart.

Book Book of Fools An Intelligent Person s Guide to Fops Jackasses Morons Dolts Dunces Halfwits and Blockheads

Download or read book Book of Fools An Intelligent Person s Guide to Fops Jackasses Morons Dolts Dunces Halfwits and Blockheads written by Terry Reed and published by Algora Publishing. This book was released on 2013 with total page 219 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a provocatively, outrageously assertive exposure of fools in their not infrequently bizarre manifestations, the object being to leave no halfwits behind. It explores the world of the fool from many perspectives, including Engines of Limited Cognition: Dumb Bells, Dumb Clucks and Dumb Waiters; Imprudence and Its Imbecilic Implications; Fools, Eccentrics & Sons of Momus; and Idiotic Opportunities: Putting Fools to Work. This is not to infer (or even hint) that either the author or his readership is in any demonstrable sense of the word foolish, now or at any other time. After all, no fool would write a book like this, and no fool would read it. Precisely who does read it is a discretely personal decision we leave to those gifted with more than ordinarily inquiring minds. Indeed, those who elect to come along for the ride are likely to find their minds piqued, tickled and enriched by this tour de farce. True to form, Reed illustrates Ambrose Bierce's definition of educational -- 'that which discloses to the wise and disguises from the fools their lack of understanding.' Abundantly documented, endlessly subtle, hopelessly eccentric and deadly funny, the book blends history, sociology, literature, philosophy, etymology and even theology, all with a good laugh.

Book Poets and the Fools Who Love Them

Download or read book Poets and the Fools Who Love Them written by Richard Katrovas and published by LSU Press. This book was released on 2022-02-16 with total page 245 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Poets and the Fools Who Love Them blends autobiography with cultural commentary and meditates on creative writing as a cottage industry within humanities higher education. Celebrated poet and memoirist Richard Katrovas examines his picaresque early years with a criminal father, a beleaguered mother, and four siblings as state and federal authorities pursued the family across the highways of America. His freewheeling, wide-ranging essays consider, among other social constructs, the relation of crime and art, and the relation of both to the authority of the state, particularly in terms of race and class. Katrovas speaks candidly about how white privilege facilitated his father’s criminal career, as a lifestyle of larceny and used-car scams, perpetuated state to state, would have surely had different implications for a family of color. Drawing on his adulthood in academe, Katrovas’s memoir in essays chronicles a quest to locate surrogate fathers among older poets and other creative writers, and reflects upon the ways in which that search has affected his role as the father to three Czech American daughters. The book flows from the love of a poet for other poets, for the “community of poets,” one likened to a “gang of priests” and a “herd of bears.” Katrovas maintains that most lovers of poets are themselves poets, and those lovers of poets who are not themselves poets are saints. At its heart, Poets and the Fools Who Love Them contemplates, with care and unabashed honesty, the role of art and the artist in the madcap twenty-first century.

Book Fools or Charlatans

Download or read book Fools or Charlatans written by Arthur Wright and published by Troubador Publishing Ltd. This book was released on 2014-05-28 with total page 440 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ‘Fools or Charlatans’ The Reading of Domesday Book is a statistical analysis of Domesday Book and an exposure of a hoax that appears to have poisoned higher education for over a century. If it was a novel then you wouldn’t believe it was possible, laughable yet tragic, here is the proof – England’s unique national treasure, Domesday Book, cannot be read. A 900 year old statistical archive which modern scholars cannot put into modern terms, therefore they claim that it never made sense. If so, why was it ever compiled? Arthur Wright delves into the present state of knowledge before asking why relevant, original passages in Domesday Book, and those in coetaneous archives which provide the necessary information, have been hidden from historians and other researchers by Domesday scholars? In a final attempt to understand why such indefensible decisions have been made, Arthur Wright analyses every unit and whole landscapes in order to prove that the whole book can be read like any modern document. Long ago, he maintains, a toxic asset and Trojan was allowed to corrupt higher education and he exposes it and also the lies, denials and cyber attacks made by ‘experts’ who wished to silence him. This informative read will interest readers of history, politics, economics and methodology. “I have been impressed by Henry Loyn, Oliver Rackham and Mark Overton, but most of all by F. W. Maitland”, says Arthur Wright. This is a convincing and compelling argument which also reveals some of the shameful cover-ups in our society’s history. What does Domesday Book really say about Saxon England and its landscapes, inhabitants, economies and politics? Readers will be shocked and surprised by this detailed historical account and they will certainly discover it was not an acultural “Dark Age” of ignorance and poverty.

Book Shakespeare and the Italian Renaissance

Download or read book Shakespeare and the Italian Renaissance written by Michele Marrapodi and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-04-01 with total page 388 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Shakespeare and the Italian Renaissance investigates the works of Shakespeare and his fellow dramatists from within the context of the European Renaissance and, more specifically, from within the context of Italian cultural, dramatic, and literary traditions, with reference to the impact and influence of classical, coeval, and contemporary culture. In contrast to previous studies, the critical perspectives pursued in this volume’s tripartite organization take into account a wider European intertextual dimension and, above all, an ideological interpretation of the 'aesthetics' or 'politics' of intertextuality. Contributors perceive the presence of the Italian world in early modern England not as a traditional treasure trove of influence and imitation, but as a potential cultural force, consonant with complex processes of appropriation, transformation, and ideological opposition through a continuous dialectical interchange of compliance and subversion.
