This book was released on 2017-11 with total page 106 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from International Food Policy Issues: A Proceedings World food problems are enormously complex. Everyone is a con sumer of food. Hundreds of millions of people are engaged in the pro duction, processing, and transportation of food. The problems often involve conflicting interests, as well as mixtures of longrun and short run issues brought about by intertwined political and economic forces that are increasingly internationalized by world trade. Many of the problems arise from the fact that agricultural and food systems are continually being changed by economic development which trans forms rural, farm-oriented societies to urban, industrialized societies. Data for evaluating world food problems are poor, and tend to be poorest where the problems are greatest. Book The Food Question Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Food Question Classic Reprint written by and published by . This book was released on 2015-06-28 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Food Question This book was planned before Food Conservation was by the mass considered seriously. The writers of the various articles are thoroughly qualified to speak where they have spoken. They are practical, conscientious, Christian, and have at heart the best in the needs of humanity. Every one strikes a major chord in the song of healthful, economical living. The recipes are from the author of "Food and Cookery," who has had a score of years' experience in every station and phase of the preparation of food, under French, English, German, and Spanish chefs. He has been second cook in the Calumet Club of Chicago, the California Club, Los Angeles, and in many leading hotels in various cities. For ten years, he has given his best thought and study to the preparation of the best in food, scientific, palatable, wholesome, and economic, most of this time in the Sanitarium and College of Medical Missionaries, Loma Linda, California. Special attention is called to the valuable tables of Food Elements, and to the newly demonstrated values of vita-mines and the substances which destroy them. We are grateful for the kind word spoken by Dr. Ray Lyman Wilbur, president of Stanford University, and first assistant to Mr. Hoover in the Federal Food Administration Department; also for the help and suggestions of Dr. Newton Evans, president of the College of Medical Evangelists, of Loma Linda, California. The little book will, we believe, not only meet present needs, but be a safe counselor in the years to come. Book Man Land and Food

Download or read book Man Land and Food written by Lester Russell Brown and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-09-19 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Man, Land and Food: Looking Ahead at World Food Needs The world food problem is closely associated with a rapidly developing population crisis. The food problem is two dimensional. It is partly a production problem, partly a distribution problem. Food supplies in the developed regions are abundant and steadily rising on a per capita basis. In the less developed regions, supplies are inadequate and although grain output per capita is now rising it is still below prewar. The distribution aspects of the food problem give little evidence of immediate improvement. Population in the less developed regions, now totaling billion, is expected to reach nearly 5 billion by the end of the century. If the expected addition of about 3 billion materializes, the less developed regions will need to develop an additional food production capacity equal to current world capacity. Land, the most important ingredient in the agricultural produc tion mix, is in limited supply. Of the earth's land surface of 33 billion acres, less than 3 billion acres actually produces crops in any given year. Ninety-three percent of this area produces edible crops; 71 percent of the total is used to produce grain. Much of the 7 percent in nonfood crops is planted to fibers, mostly cotton. Still more broadly it was perceived that we had better material than had ever been available before on which to attempt a thorough and searching statistical survey Of the food resources and food consumption Of the United States. In the summer of 1918 I began the task of putting together the material. It has proved a far greater labor than was anticipated. Book Food Problems to Illustrate the Meaning of Food Waste and What May Be Accomplished by Economy and Intelligent Substitution

Download or read book Food Problems to Illustrate the Meaning of Food Waste and What May Be Accomplished by Economy and Intelligent Substitution written by A. N. Farmer and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-22 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Food Problems to Illustrate the Meaning of Food Waste and What May Be Accomplished by Economy, and Intelligent Substitution: What We Waste, Its Money Value, How We Waste It, How We May Save Food, How You and I Can Help Just before the opening of the public schools in September, 1917, Mr. Farmer was called to Washington by Mr. Hoover, Federal Food Administrator of the United States, to help with the work of that department. This book is the result of the stimulation and inspiration which came from six weeks' intimate contact with the work of the United States Food Administration. Mr. Hoover is an intensely practical man, but he is also an idealist. In formulating his plans for food administration he insisted that in a democracy autocratic control of the food supply should be avoided; that arbitrary methods should be employed only as a last resort; that the American people would respond loyally and unanimously when they realized the facts and appreciated the needs of the food situation. A Campaign Of Education This meant that a great campaign of education must be carried on to teach the nation the essential facts regarding the world food situation and the obligation of America to come with her great abundance of surplus foodstuffs to the rescue of a world facing starvation. As under present conditions even the normal surplus would not be sufficient, it is necessary to impress every citizen of the United States with the vital necessity of releasing more of the essential foodstuffs by lessening consumption of them through substitution and by the elimination of waste.
