Book Absorber Types in Vapour Absorption Refrigeration Systems

Download or read book Absorber Types in Vapour Absorption Refrigeration Systems written by A. Mani and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2024-09-30 with total page 104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book addresses the increasing energy demand and costs associated with the global refrigeration industry, primarily driven by the need for cooling. It proposes the substitution of vapour compression refrigeration systems (VCRS) with vapour absorption refrigeration systems (VARS), which operate on low-grade, renewable energy sources like solar, geothermal, and waste heat. Focusing on the absorber component of VARS, which plays a critical role in facilitating heat and mass transfer processes, the book provides a comprehensive overview of absorber configurations, including tray, packed bed, falling film, spray, bubble, and membrane absorbers. It offers guidance on selecting the appropriate absorber configuration considering their advantages and limitations in different operating conditions, as well as their numerical, experimental, and performance enhancement studies. The book will interest heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) academic researchers, graduate students, and professionals involved in the advancement of sustainable refrigeration technologies, particularly absorber selection.

  • Author : S. Kalliadasis
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2011-09-24
  • ISBN : 1848823673

Download or read book Falling Liquid Films written by S. Kalliadasis and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-09-24 with total page 446 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Falling Liquid Films gives a detailed review of state-of-the-art theoretical, analytical and numerical methodologies, for the analysis of dissipative wave dynamics and pattern formation on the surface of a film falling down a planar inclined substrate. This prototype is an open-flow hydrodynamic instability, that represents an excellent paradigm for the study of complexity in active nonlinear media with energy supply, dissipation and dispersion. It will also be of use for a more general understanding of specific events characterizing the transition to spatio-temporal chaos and weak/dissipative turbulence. Particular emphasis is given to low-dimensional approximations for such flows through a hierarchy of modeling approaches, including equations of the boundary-layer type, averaged formulations based on weighted residuals approaches and long-wave expansions. Whenever possible the link between theory and experiment is illustrated, and, as a further bridge between the two, the development of order-of-magnitude estimates and scaling arguments is used to facilitate the understanding of basic, underlying physics. This monograph will appeal to advanced graduate students in applied mathematics, science or engineering undertaking research on interfacial fluid mechanics or studying fluid mechanics as part of their program. It will also be of use to researchers working on both applied, fundamental theoretical and experimental aspects of thin film flows, as well as engineers and technologists dealing with processes involving isothermal or heated films. This monograph is largely self-contained and no background on interfacial fluid mechanics is assumed.

Book Packed Bed Columns

Download or read book Packed Bed Columns written by Nikolai Kolev and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2006-08-08 with total page 709 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Packed bed columns are largely employed for absorption, desorption, rectification and direct heat transfer processes in chemical and food industry, environmental protection and also processes in thermal power stations like water purification, flue gas heat utilization and SO2 removal. These Separation processes, are estimated to account for 40%-70% of capital and operating costs in process industry. Packed bed columns are widely employed in this area. Their usage also for direct heat transfer between gas and liquid, enlarge their importance. They are the best apparatuses, from thermodynamical point of view, for mass and heat transfer processes between gas and liquid phase. Their wide spreading is due to low capital investments and operating costs. Since 1995 there has not been published a specialised book in this area, and this is a period of quick development of packed columns. Packed Bed Columns reflects the state of this field including the author's experience on creating and investigating of new packings, column internals and industrial columns. - Considers the theories of mass transfer processes and shows how they help the construction of highly effective packings - Complete information about the performance characteristics of different modern types of highly effective packings - Considers the models for calculation and areas of their application

Book Modelling of Convective Heat and Mass Transfer in Rotating Flows

Download or read book Modelling of Convective Heat and Mass Transfer in Rotating Flows written by Igor V. Shevchuk and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-07-24 with total page 253 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph presents results of the analytical and numerical modeling of convective heat and mass transfer in different rotating flows caused by (i) system rotation, (ii) swirl flows due to swirl generators, and (iii) surface curvature in turns and bends. Volume forces (i.e. centrifugal and Coriolis forces), which influence the flow pattern, emerge in all of these rotating flows. The main part of this work deals with rotating flows caused by system rotation, which includes several rotating-disk configurations and straight pipes rotating about a parallel axis. Swirl flows are studied in some of the configurations mentioned above. Curvilinear flows are investigated in different geometries of two-pass ribbed and smooth channels with 180° bends. The author demonstrates that the complex phenomena of fluid flow and convective heat transfer in rotating flows can be successfully simulated using not only the universal CFD methodology, but in certain cases by means of the integral methods, self-similar and analytical solutions. The book will be a valuable read for research experts and practitioners in the field of heat and mass transfer.
