Download or read book Constitutional Principles of Local Self Government in Europe written by Giovanni Boggero and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2017-09-25 with total page 350 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Constitutional Principles of Local Self-Government in Europe Giovanni Boggero offers a meticulous account of the defining features of European constitutional local government law using both an international and comparative law perspective. The book argues that differences between local government systems in Europe, typical examples of internal affairs of a State, can be smoothed away by construing a consistent system of constitutional principles to be coherently applied at domestic level across the whole European legal space. This system can be best grasped by looking at the European Charter of Local Self-Government, which embodies a concept of self-government rooted in common legal traditions, and at its subsequent practice within the Council of Europe.

Download or read book The Congress Oflocal And Regional Authorities adopted Texts 12th Session 31 May to 2 June 2005 written by Council of Europe Staff and published by Council of Europe. This book was released on 2006-05-01 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This publication brings together the texts adopted by the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe. The Congress, a consultative body of the Council of Europe, is made up of two chambers: one representing local authorities, the other the regions. Its aim is to reinforce democratic structures at local and regional level, and in particular to help the newly-emerging democracies in central and eastern Europe. The Congress meets once a year in Strasbourg, and is open to delegations from other European organisations which have consultative status with the Council, as well as to special guests or observers from some countries which are not members of the Organisation. The Congress adopts three different types of texts: recommendations, opinions and resolutions. Recommendations are proposals to the Committee of Ministers, and their application is left up to each member government. Sometimes they are also addressed to other international organisations. Opinions usually refer to questions to the Congress from the Committee of Ministers or the Parliamentary Assembly. The Committee of Ministers and the Parliamentary Assembly consult the Congress on questions which are likely to affect the competence and the basic interests of the local and regional authorities which the Congress represents. Resolutions reflect the décisions that the Congress is authorised to take, or make recommendations to local and/or regional authorities and their associations.

Download or read book Law Between Buildings written by Nestor Davidson and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-10-14 with total page 249 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The rich field of urban law has thus far lacked a holistic and concerted scholarly focus on comparative and global perspectives. This work offers new inroads into the global and comparative streams within urban law by presenting emerging frameworks and approaches to topics ranging from urban housing and land use to legal informality and consumer financial protection. The volume brings together a group of international urban legal scholars to highlight emergent global, interdisciplinary perspectives within the field of urban law, particularly as they have import for comparative legal analysis. The book presents a timely addition to the literature given the urgent legal issues that continue to surface in an age of rapid urbanization and globalization.

Download or read book Sub National Governance in Small States written by Eva Marín Hlynsdóttir and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-08-07 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the development of subnational government in small states, using Iceland as a model and comparing it with small states of similar population size as well as those with larger populations. The book examines subnational government from the perspective of small state theory, providing a comprehensive overview of the basic data on subnational government for all small states with between 100,000 and 1 million inhabitants. It presents Iceland as a model for decentralization in small states, providing detailed information on the country’s organization at the subnational level, and highlighting the advantages and disadvantages of decentralizing tasks from central to subnational government. Demonstrating the difference population size makes when it comes to successfully decentralizing tasks to subnational governments, this book is intended for scholars, students and practitioners alike.
