Book The Episcopal History of Perth 1689 1894 Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Episcopal History of Perth 1689 1894 Classic Reprint written by Geo T. S. Farquhar and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-15 with total page 450 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Episcopal History of Perth, 1689-1894 IN 1887, when there was no longer any doubt that the nave of Perth Cathedral would be erected, it occurred to me that a leaflet containing some account of the past of the institution might be useful in the interests Of the building fund. The frequent discovery, however, of new material, combined with the incessant calls of pastoral work, constantly delayed me and changed the character of my undertaking. Had it not been that my position, as member of a Cathedral staff, sets me free from the overwhelmingly arduous duty of preaching two sermons every Sunday to the same congregation, my attempt would probably have come to nothing. As it is, the reader has the result now before him in the present volume. My, object has simply been to do what has never been attempted before, viz. -to bring to light the full Truth concerning the History Of the Church in Perth during the last two centuries, or somewhat longer. It may indeed be argued by some that, as the Truth in this case proves to be of so troubled a character, it would have been better to leave it in its former Obscurity; but my idea is this: that on all occasions (and, therefore, in the present instance), the Truth is the best foundation on which to build. It has its own sure way, sooner or later, of rewarding its followers. We cannot altogether say how, in the matter here dealt with, it will do so; but that such will ultimately be the case, we are confident. Thisviii. Episcopal History Of' Perth. Book A History of the Formation and Growth of the Reformed Episcopal Church 1873 1902 Classic Reprint

Download or read book A History of the Formation and Growth of the Reformed Episcopal Church 1873 1902 Classic Reprint written by Mrs. Annie Darling Price and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-16 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A History of the Formation and Growth of the Reformed Episcopal Church, 1873-1902 This boo-k is called forth by a strongly-felt need for some gathering together Of the various threads of the history of the Reformed Episcopal Church during its twenty-five years and more of existence. Many and able have been the pamphlets and articles written, but no connected account has been recorded. The years are passing, and already some of those who bravely, for con science' sake, faced hardness as soldiers of Jesus Christ, yielded up position, friends, wealth, not counting even their lives dear unto themselves, have joined the Church Triumphant. For this reason, the call came, while many of those earnest laborers were yet with us, for some one to weave into one golden thread, their recollections of our early days, that there might be left in the hands of the workers in years to come a clear and accurate history of the reasons for the founding of our Church, and its for mation and history during its first quarter of a century. Such a book is of necessity largely a compilation, a transcript of the thoughts of others. And many thanks are due to those whose kind assistance and encouragement has made such a work possible. Among them also were some of those valued friends who are to-day rejoicing in the presence of the Lord. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Myth of the Jacobite Clans was first published in 1995: a revolutionary book, it argued that British history had long sought to caricature Jacobitism rather than to understand it, and that the Jacobite Risings drew on extensive Lowland support and had a national quality within Scotland. The Times Higher Education Supplement hailed its author's 'formidable talents' and the book and its ideas fuelled discussions in The Economist and Scotland on Sunday, on Radio Scotland and elsewhere. The argument of the book has been widely accepted, although it is still ignored by media and heritage representations which seek to depoliticise the Rising of 1745.Now entirely rewritten with extensive new primary research, this new expanded second edition addresses the questions of the first in more detail, examining the systematic misrepresentation of Jacobitism, the impressive size of the Jacobite armies, their training and organization and the Jacobite goal of dissolving the Union, and bringing to life the ordinary Scots who formed the core of Jacobite support in the ill-fated Rising of 1745. Now, more than ever, The Myth of the Jacobite Clans sounds the call for an end to the dismissive sneers and pointless romanticisation which have dogged the history of the subject in Scotland for 200 years.

The story of the invention of the Franklin stove, the first Poor Richard's Almanac, and his experiments with electricity are all included here. His "Project for Moral Perfection"—a list of desirable virtues and steps to achieve them—influenced the modern self-help genre. Hundreds of years later, Franklin's account of his rise from middle-class obscurity to become a world-renowned scholar and civic figure continues to promote the American Dream. First published in 1791, this unabridged version of Franklin's autobiography is taken from the 1909 copyright edition.
