Book Energy Labels Standards

Download or read book Energy Labels Standards written by International Energy Agency and published by Organisation for Economic Co-Operation and Development. This book was released on 2000 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Within the foreseeable future, refrigerators will be using 30% less electricity in some countries. Homes in the United States will be emitting 4% less carbon dioxide. Dozens of other common energy-using products will have become cleaner and more energy efficient. And all because of the growing use of energy labels and standards in industrialised countries. Energy labels and standards are only one way in which governments can diminish energy use, improve performance and slash greenhouse gas emissions. But they have proved remarkably effective, and their use is steadily spreading. This report by the International Energy Agency chronicles a number of success stories and offers suggestions on how they can be replicated. This study, the first in a planned series of Energy Efficiency Policy Profiles, analyses existing programmes, provides guidance for programmes now under consideration and points the way to possible international collaboration. It highlights the key elements in successful programmes.

Book Impact on Energy Labelling on Household Appliances

Download or read book Impact on Energy Labelling on Household Appliances written by and published by Nordic Council of Ministers. This book was released on 2007 with total page 77 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Energy labelling has had an impact on the product development of household appliances. Today's appliances are energy-efficient and users are satisfied with them, however, the test methods applied to energy labelling do not always correspond to the actual use of the appliances tested. Although the current energy-labelling scheme focuses on saving energy, the appliances must also work properly. Energy labelling helps households to get appliances that save energy.

Book Energy Efficiency in Househould Appliances and Lighting

Download or read book Energy Efficiency in Househould Appliances and Lighting written by Paolo Bertoldi and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 865 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Household appliances encompass a large variety of equipment including the cold appliances (refrigerators and freezers), the wet appliances (washing machines, dishwashers and dryers), the space conditioning appliances (heaters, air conditioners, heat pumps, fans, boilers), the water heaters, the cooking appliances, a wide array of consumer electronics (such as TVs, VCRs, HiFi systems) and miscellaneous small appliances (such as vacuum cleaners, irons, toasters, hairdryers and power tools). Household appliances save a large amount of domestic labour to perform the household tasks, as well as provide comfort conditions and convenience to the household occupants. The European Community SAVE Programme has promoted the efficient use of energy, in particular in domestic appliances. SAVE has sponsored a variety of studies to characterise the use of the main household appliances and lighting and to identify cost-effective technical options to improve the energy efficiency, as well as to identify the strategies to promote the penetration ofefficient equipment in the market place. National energy agencies, independent experts and appliance manufacturers have participated in the SAVE activities and have done a remarkable job. While the energy efficiency ofthe main household appliances has been improved, at the same time it was possible in most cases to improve the appliance performance, reliability and qualityofservice.

Book Understanding the Human Factor of the Energy Transition Mechanisms Underlying Energy Relevant Decisions and Behaviors

Download or read book Understanding the Human Factor of the Energy Transition Mechanisms Underlying Energy Relevant Decisions and Behaviors written by Tobias Brosch and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2016-06-27 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An increasing number of countries are shifting toward sustainable energy economies, emphasizing the use of renewable energy sources, increases in energy efficiency and the abatement of greenhouse gas emissions. The success of such an energy transition will depend not only on the development of new energy technologies, but also on major changes in the patterns of individual energy-related decisions and behaviors resulting in substantial reductions in energy demand. Consequently, the behavioral sciences can make important contributions to the energy transition by increasing our understanding of the multiple factors and mechanisms that underlie individual as well as group-based decisions and behaviors in the energy domain and by creating a basis for systematic interventions that reduce energy usage. Many different types of relevant behaviors and decisions need to be considered in this context, including decisions to invest in energy-efficient household equipment, adjustments of energy-critical habits related to heating, eating, or mode of transportation, and participation in the political discourse related to questions of energy. An integration of the expertise of the different disciplines of the behavioral sciences is thus needed to comprehensively investigate the impact of the different drivers and barriers that may determine energy-related decisions and behaviors, including economic factors such as price level, social factors such as norms, communication patterns and social learning processes, and individual factors such as values, attitudes, beliefs, heuristics, affective biases and emotions. The potential impact of these factors on the success of the energy transition is considerable: for example, a recent projection of the energy demand in Switzerland until 2050 has estimated the reduction potential related to psychological and sociological factors between 0% and 30%, depending on which behavioral changes will be implemented in society. Increased research efforts from the behavioral sciences are required to ensure that the full reduction potential can be achieved. This Research Topic brings together contributions from different disciplines such as psychology, affective science, behavioral economics, economics, sociology, consumer behavior, business science, sociology, and political science, that improve our understanding of the many factors underlying decision-making and behavior in the energy domain, and contribute to the development of targeted interventions that aim at reducing energy demand based on these factors.
