Book Multiple Photon Excitation and Dissociation of Polyatomic Molecules

Download or read book Multiple Photon Excitation and Dissociation of Polyatomic Molecules written by Cyrus D. Cantrell and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-08 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the early 1970s, researchers in Canada, the Soviet Union and the United States discovered that powerful infrared laser pulses are capable of dissociating mole cules such as SiF4 and SF6' This result, which was so unexpected that for some time the phenomenon of multiple-photon dissociation was not recognized in many cir cumstances in which we now know that it occurs, was first publicized at a time when the possibility of using lasers for the separation of isotopes had attracted much attention in the scientific community. From the mid-1970s to the early 1980s, hun dreds of experimental papers were published describing the multiple-photon absorp tion of C02 laser pulses in nearly every simple molecule with an absorption band in the 9 - 11 jJm region. Despite this impressive volume of experimental results, and despite the efforts of numerous theorists, there is no agreement among re searchers in the field on many fundamental aspects of the absorption of infrared laser light by polyatomic molecules. This book is devoted to reviells of the experimental and theoretical research that provides the foundations for our current understanding of molecular multiple photon exc itat i on, and to rev i ews of research that is pert i nent to the 1 aser sep aration of isotopes.

Book Molecular Dynamics and Spectroscopy by Stimulated Emission Pumping

Download or read book Molecular Dynamics and Spectroscopy by Stimulated Emission Pumping written by Hai-Lung Dai and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1995 with total page 1154 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the first stimulated emission pumping (SEP) experiments more than a decade ago, this technique has proven powerful for studying vibrationally excited molecules. SEP is now widely used by increasing numbers of research groups to investigate fundamental problems in spectroscopy, intramolecular dynamics, intermolecular interactions, and even reactions. SEP provides rotationally pre-selected spectra of vibrationally highly excited molecules undergoing large amplitude motions. A unique feature of SEP is the ability to access systematically a wide variety of extreme excitations localized in various parts of a molecule, and to prepare populations in specific, high vibrational levels. SEP has made it possible to ask and answer specific questions about intramolecular vibrational redistribution and the role of vibrational excitation in chemical reactions.

Book Comprehensive Chemical Kinetics

Download or read book Comprehensive Chemical Kinetics written by Nicholas Green and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2003-11-21 with total page 263 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Unimolecular reactions are in principle the simplest chemical reactions, because they only involve one molecule. The basic mechanism, in which the competition between the chemical reaction step and a collisional deactivation leads to a pressure-dependent coefficient, has been understood for a long time. However, this is a rapidly developing field, and many new and important discoveries have been made in the past decade. This First Part Part of Two CCK Volumes dealing with Unimolecular Rections, deals with the Reaction Step. The first chapter is an introduction to the whole project, aiming to cover the material necessary to understand the content of the detailed chapters, as well as the history of the development of the area. Chapter 2 is a review of the modern view of the statistical theories, as embodied in the various forms of RRKM theory. Chapter 3 deals with the fully quantum mechanical view of reactive states as resonances.. Presents considerable advances in the field made during the last decade.. Treats both the statistical as well as the fully quantum mechanical view.

Book Tutorials in Molecular Reaction Dynamics

Download or read book Tutorials in Molecular Reaction Dynamics written by Mark Brouard and published by Royal Society of Chemistry. This book was released on 2015-11-09 with total page 507 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The focus of this excellent textbook is the topic of molecular reaction dynamics. The chapters are all written by internationally recognised researchers and, from the outset, the contributors are writing with the young scientist in mind. The easy to use, stand-alone, chapters make it of value to students, teachers, and researchers alike. Subjects covered range from the more traditional topics, such as potential energy surfaces, to more advanced and rapidly developing areas, such as femtochemistry and coherent control. The coverage of reaction dynamics is very broad, so many students studying chemical physics will find elements of this text interesting and useful. Tutorials in Molecular Reaction Dynamics includes extensive references to more advanced texts and research papers, and a series of 'Study Boxes' help readers grapple with the more difficult concepts. Each chapter is thoroughly cross-referenced, helping the reader to link concepts from different branches of the subject. Worked problems are included, and each chapter concludes with a selection of problems designed to test understanding of the subjects covered. Supplementary reading material, and worked solutions to the problems, are contained on a secure website.

Book Free Radicals in Chemistry and Biology

Download or read book Free Radicals in Chemistry and Biology written by Milan Lazar and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1989-03-31 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Elementary radical reactions are described in terms of fundamental knowledge of organic chemistry and chemical physics in this valuable reference text. The complex radical processes of nonchain and chain mechanisms, such as dimerization, alkylation, polymerization, telomerization, halogenation pyrolysis, oxidation and combustion, are complemented by reactions in chemical lasers and in the cosmos, as well as by reactions in biological objects under normal or pathological metabolism. The text also provides the synthesis of facts from various fields of research and involves mechanisms where free radicals appear either as main or side intermediates in one of the several alternatives of the reaction pathway. Highlights include 38 tables and 39 figures.

Book Advances in Chemical Physics Volume 159

Download or read book Advances in Chemical Physics Volume 159 written by Paul Brumer and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2016-03-31 with total page 487 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume of Advances in Chemical Physics is dedicated, by the contributors, to Moshe Shapiro, formerly Canada Research Chair in Quantum Control in the Department of Chemistry at the University of British Columbia and Jacques Mimran Professor of Chemical Physics at the Weizmann Institute, who passed away on December 3, 2013. It focuses primarily on the interaction of light with molecules, one of Moshe's longstanding scientific loves. However, the wide range of topics covered in this volume constitutes but a small part of Moshe's vast range of scientific interests, which are well documented in over 300 research publications and two books.
