Book The Pilot Knob Magnetite Pilot Knob Hematite and Shepherd Mountain Iron Oxide Deposits in Southeast Missouri

Download or read book The Pilot Knob Magnetite Pilot Knob Hematite and Shepherd Mountain Iron Oxide Deposits in Southeast Missouri written by Bolorchimeg N. Tunnell Nanzad and published by . This book was released on 2021 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The Southeast Missouri Iron Metallogenic Province in the Midwestern USA contains seven major and several minor IOA/IOCG-type deposits, all of which are spatially associated with the early Mesoproterozoic (1.50-1.44 Ga) magmatism in the St. Francois Mountains terrane. This Ph.D. project focuses on the Pilot Knob deposits, i.e., the deeper largely massive Pilot Knob Magnetite (PKM) and the shallower Pilot Knob Hematite (PKH) deposits, and the Shepherd Mountain deposit that are located less than 2.1 km distance from one another. The first precise age for the formation of the PKM ore is constrained at 1438±5.8 Ma using apatite U-Pb method. Petrographic observations and whole-rock compositions of the PKH ore, and the mineral chemistry of hematite, suggest that the PKH deposit formed from acidic and hypersaline hydrothermal fluids at temperatures 200-250°C. Also, petrographic observations, whole-rock data, and the trace element and Fe isotope composition of magnetite and hematite show that the Shepherd Mountain deposit formed from at least five pulses of magmatic-hydrothermal fluids with different compositions and physicochemical parameters. Integration of the data for the individual deposits (i.e., PKM, PKH, and Shepherd Mountain) with published data from PKM shows that the three deposits are genetically linked through two local faults. The Ironton and Pilot Knob faults provided fluid pathways to connect the PKM deposit to the shallower Shepherd Mountain and PKH deposits. Consequently, the Shepherd Mountain and PKH deposits are near-surface extensions of the same magmatic to hydrothermal plumbing system that formed the PKM deposit at depth"--Abstract, page iv.

Book Distribution of Selected Trace Elements in Rocks

Download or read book Distribution of Selected Trace Elements in Rocks written by Ronald J. Kley and published by . This book was released on 1968 with total page 74 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report discusses factors influencing trace element distribution in rocks, tabulates maximum and minimum concentrations of twenty-nine trace elements in various common rock types, and briefly describes the geochemical behavior of each of these elements. A procedure is outlined for predicting concentrations of these selected elements in various rock types. On the basis of this study it is concluded that: 1. Trace element concentration varies systematically according to the gross mineralogical composition of the host rock. 2. Mineralogical composition of the host rock is the primary determinant of trace element concentrations. 3. Knowledge of rock mineralogy as provided by conventional petrographic analyses serves as a basis for estimating trace element concentrations.

Book Occurrence and Distribution of Iron Manganese and Selected Trace Elements in Ground Water in the Glacial Aquifer System of the Northern United States

Download or read book Occurrence and Distribution of Iron Manganese and Selected Trace Elements in Ground Water in the Glacial Aquifer System of the Northern United States written by U.S. Department of the Interior and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2014-03-04 with total page 102 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dissolved trace elements, including iron and manganese, are often an important factor in use of ground water for drinking- water supplies in the glacial aquifer system of the United States. The glacial aquifer system underlies most of New England, extends through the Midwest, and underlies portions of the Pacific Northwest and Alaska. Concentrations of dissolved trace elements in ground water can vary over several orders of magnitude across local well networks as well as across regions of the United States.

Book Laboratory Concentration of the Missouri Iron Ores of Iron Mountain and Pilot Knob

Download or read book Laboratory Concentration of the Missouri Iron Ores of Iron Mountain and Pilot Knob written by Strathmore Ridley Barnott Cooke and published by . This book was released on 1930 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The purpose of this investigation was to ascertain whether the more important iron ores of Missouri would be amenable to beneficiation to produce high grade concentrates. In the southeastern section of Missouri are found many small deposits of high grade iron ores, and a few large deposits of comparatively low grade ore. The former consist chiefly of red and brown hematite and limonite ores that are in no need of beneficiation. the low grade iron orebodies are relatively large in extent, and, if they could be beneficiated successully [sic] and economically would be of value. Accordingly, the major portion of the investigation has been devoted to the beneficiation of these latter low grade ores. Particular attention has been given to the specular hematite at Iron Mountain, Missouri. Pilot Knob ores were also studied"--Object, leaf 2.
