Book Quality of Family Life of U S Army Servicemen in Europe A Factor Analysis Approach

Download or read book Quality of Family Life of U S Army Servicemen in Europe A Factor Analysis Approach written by Hyder Lakhani and published by . This book was released on 1985 with total page 34 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An objective of this paper is to reduce over 450 variables on quality of family life, available from the Army Research Institute's Army Families in Europe Survey, 1983, to a small number of factors. Subsequent analysis reveals that five factors are significant in explaining satisfaction with family life. These are (a) an economic security factor, reflected in the payment of extension bonuses; (b) a socioeconomic and demographic factor consisting of age, time in service, rank, and income (which all move in concert over time); (c) a psychological-physical well-being factor factor based on the physical and mental health of servicemembers and their families; (d) a housing satisfaction factor based on the number of bedrooms in housing and the reduction in delays when allocating permanent housing; and (e) a cultural adjustment skills reflecting the ability of servicemembers to cope with German culture by learning the language and other modes of communication.

Book The Impact of Familial and Contextual Factors on the Emotional Health of Children Ages 0 3

Download or read book The Impact of Familial and Contextual Factors on the Emotional Health of Children Ages 0 3 written by Dorinda S. Williams and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 118 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the past 13 years, the U.S. has been engaged in "the long war," a battle that has been chronicled by many, but fought by few. The burden of carrying the long war, marked by repeated and extended deployment, has taken its toll on service members and their families. Many psychologically injured service members are parents returning home to their families, tasked with rebuilding relationships with children who have grown physically and developmentally. Indeed, over 42% of children of active duty parents are between the ages of 0 to 5. Young children are particularly vulnerable to environmental stress and impaired parental capacity. Nonetheless, research focusing on the experiences of young children affected by their parents' deployment experiences is limited. The study utilized secondary analysis of data derived from the first wave of the 2010 longitudinal Military Family Life Project (MFLP), conducted by the Human Resources Strategic Assessment Program (HSRAP), Defense Manpower Data Center (DMDC). Bivariate and multiple regression analysis were used to examine the interplay of risk and protective factors influencing the emotional health of young children, ages 0-3, affected by post-deployment circumstances. Several psychosocial variables emerged as predictors of young children's emotional health in the context of reintegration, including the civilian parent's (CP's) perception that the public supports the war, CP stress, couple readjustment, community support, military satisfaction, imminent deployment, perception that deployed service members are making a difference, family support, military parent (MP) distress, and marital satisfaction. The findings suggest that both interdisciplinary professionals and policy makers should consider the needs of both the parent and child in fostering resilience across the family unit. Furthermore, professionals and policy makers are urged to strengthen family and community resources, as well as programs and services across systems, on behalf of families and their young children. These mechanisms of support can be leveraged to reduce parental stress, foster optimal couple readjustment, and promote positive family schemas that, in turn, contribute to the emotional health of the military's youngest family members.

Book The Organization Family

Download or read book The Organization Family written by Gary L. Bowen and published by Praeger. This book was released on 1989-08-22 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A penetrating analysis of the changing and interacting worlds of work and family life in the U.S. military, this volume extends the concept of the organization man to focus on the organization family. Based on the most recent literature and research on work and family dynamics in the military services today, the contributors examine such issues as the special problems of dual career couples and single parents, the challenge of rebuilding military communities, and the influence of family factors on the workplace. Taken together, their essays advance our understanding of the nature and dynamics of the work/family interface. This work also presents some significant policy implications for military leadership and family life professionals interested in forging a more productive partnership between the military organization and the military family. The book is divided into three major sections, each of which addresses a key aspect of work and family life: work and family linkages, the problems of special population groups, and the organizational response to family-level issues in the workplace. Each chapter provides a theoretical and/or historical perspective on the topic under study as well as presenting the latest empirical research in the area. Throughout, the contributors draw relevant comparisons between the military and civilian employment sectors, making the book invaluable for advanced students of military and family sociology, contemporary family patterns and issues, and public policy.

Book A Catalog of U S Army Research Institute Products Developed from 1985 1998 for the Reserve Component

Download or read book A Catalog of U S Army Research Institute Products Developed from 1985 1998 for the Reserve Component written by Joseph D. Hagman and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report provides a catalog of selected research and development (R&D) products produced between 1985-1998 by the U.S. Army Research Institute (ARI) for the Reserve Component (RC) (i.e., Army National Guard and Reserve). The catalog contains seven chapters. The first describes ARI and its mission, and then the RC, its organization and strength, and how its operational environment differs from that of the Active Component (AC). The next two describe products that use training aids, devices, simulators, and simulations (TADSS) to overcome individual/crew (Chapter 2) and unit/battle staff (Chapter 3) training time constraints. Chapter 4 talks about products designed to bring geographically dispersed soldiers closer together via distance learning. Chapter 5 describes the results of our efforts to understand and predict RC soldier attrition. Chapter 6 tells what we know about RC soldiers' reactions to being called up for deployment, and the feasibility of using a composite AC/RC unit for peacekeeping missions. The final chapter concludes with what we think is the payoff from the products described. The catalog's product summaries include why, how, and with/for whom work was done, what was found/developed, what the conclusions/implications are, and where more information can be found. In doing so, we hope to reveal not only what ARI has done up until now, hut also the scope of what it is capable of doing in the future, to support RC R&D product needs of the 21st Century.
