Book Measuring Motivation Morale and Job Satisfaction in Army Careers

Download or read book Measuring Motivation Morale and Job Satisfaction in Army Careers written by Walter C. Borman and published by . This book was released on 1975 with total page 269 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report describes an extensive investigation of the constructs of motivation, morale, and job satisfaction as they relate to enlisted personnel in the United States Army. A comprehensive literature review helped to delineate definitions of the three constructs and to identify motivation and satisfaction inventories to be tried in the field. In addition to existing inventories, new measures also were developed for field testing. Since the literature review revealed almost no measures explicitly designed to measure morale, another phase of our research was devoted to a series of workshops where Army officers and enlisted personnel recounted actual episodes that they perceived to be indicative of different levels of unit morale. These episodes were used to define eight dimensions of unit morale and to develop scales for rating a unit's morale on those dimensions (Community Relations; Teamwork and Cooperation; Reactions to Adversity; Superior-Subordinate Relations; Performance and Effort; Bearing, Appearance and Military Discipline; Pride in Unit, Army, and Country; and Use of Off-Duty Time). The questionnaires, inventories and rating scales were field tested by administering them to 466 enlisted men (representing 104 platoons and 16 companies) in the Eighth Army (Korea), 614 soldiers (representing 47 platoons and 16 companies) in the Seventh Army (Germany) and 126 men in Minnesota National Guard units.

Book Perspectives on Reserve Attrition

Download or read book Perspectives on Reserve Attrition written by Glenda Y. Nogami and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper reports and analyzes results of the ARI Survey of Army National Guard/Army Reserve. Supervisors and peers of attritees were asked to rate 36 reasons for leaving the Reserves. Their responses provide information that may be useful in understanding the high turnover rates of Reserve personnel. However, we hypothesize that the survey items may reflect a smaller number of unobserved factors that include conflicts with civilian job or school, lack of leisure time, conflict with family responsibilities, dissatisfaction with Reserve duties, low pay and lack of promotion potential, and health problems. Factor analysis is used to test the factor structure hypothesis. Peer and supervisor responses are compared to identify differences in frequencies and in the factor structure. Because peers and supervisors were asked to rate separation motives for the same attritees, differences in responses between the two groups should be a function of variations in perceptions. Keywords: Morale, Army personnel.

Book Gender Differences in Job Satisfaction in the U S Army

Download or read book Gender Differences in Job Satisfaction in the U S Army written by June Taylor Jones and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This report summarizes findings from the Spring 1995 Sample Survey Military Personnel (SSMP) which focused on soldier satisfaction with aspects of their Army life, jobs, and careers. A total of 15,113 soldiers responded to the survey. There were few if any differences between males and females in their responses to items on Stress, Promotion Potential, and Global Satisfaction (job/career/life). Females were more positive in their responses to items covering Benefits, Family, Equity, Basic Pay, Job Security (officers only), and Job Characteristics (enlisted only). Males were more positive in their responses to items covering Co-Workers. Supervisors, leeadership, Developmental Courses (more likely to have bad courses), and Absence from Duty Station for Military Reasons (more likely to be deployed/TDY/in training). Results from the survey did not identily any clear cut relationships between job satisfaction and career intent for males or females; however, it does appear that separation from family may be an important factor in why some female soldiers decide to leave the Army."--DTIC.
