Book Regional Estimates of the Price Elasticity of Demand for Natural Gas in the United States

Download or read book Regional Estimates of the Price Elasticity of Demand for Natural Gas in the United States written by Ricardo Keston Michael Charles and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A misalignment of incentives in the gas pipeline construction process has caused growth of gasfired generation to outpace investment in new pipelines in New England. Limited gas capacity to the region has resulted in power reliability issues, particularly during severe winter weather when gas demand is high. The majority of proposed solutions have focused on increasing gas supply. However, demand response in the natural gas retail market is a potential alternative answer. To quantify the benefits of gas demand response regional and state level price elasticities of demand for natural gas must be known. In this thesis, the price elasticity of demand for natural gas in the U.S. was estimated for the period 2001 to 2014 at the national, regional and state levels for the residential, commercial and industrial sectors. Differences in demand estimates were observed when performed at the different aggregate data levels and sectors. However, not all the regional and state estimates obtained for each sector showed statistically significant differences from each other or the national level. The short-run regional estimates for New England were used in a simple demonstration of gas demand response to show how they could have been used to mitigate the effects of the 2014 cold snap on electricity generation. Prices were optimized such that they reduced gas demand from retail markets by the amount of fuel that generators were short while minimizing the total deadweight loss.

Book Regulation of the Natural Gas Producing Industry

Download or read book Regulation of the Natural Gas Producing Industry written by Keith C. Brown and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-02-17 with total page 277 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally published in 1972, Regulation of the Natural Gas Producing Industry combines several papers prepared for a seminar in Washington D.C in 1970.The purpose of this seminar was to exchange views between specialists on the issues related to regulation natural gas production. As such these papers explore issues such as producer price regulations, arguments for and against the regulation of natural gas, the changing environment of natural gas supply and what the future holds in terms of the natural gas producing industry. This title will be of interest to students of Environmental Studies and policy makers.

Book China s Gas Development Strategies

Download or read book China s Gas Development Strategies written by Shell International B.V. and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-11-23 with total page 515 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is open access under a CC BY 4.0 license. This book examines how China can increase the share of natural gas in its energy system. China’s energy strategy has global ramifications and impact, and central to this strategy is the country’s transition from coal to gas. The book presents the culmination of a two-year collaboration between the Development Research Center of the State Council (DRC) and Shell. With the Chinese government’s strategic aim to increase the share of gas in the energy mix from 5.8% in 2014 to 10% and 15% in 2020 and 2030 respectively, the book outlines how China can achieve its gas targets. Providing both quantifiable metrics and policy measures for the transition, it is a much needed addition to the literature on Chinese energy policy. The research and the resulting recommendations of this study have fed directly into the Chinese government’s 13th Five-Year Plan, and provide unique insights into the Chinese government and policy-making. Due to its global impact, the book is a valuable resource for policy makers in both China and the rest of the world.

Book The Economics of Natural Gas

Download or read book The Economics of Natural Gas written by DeAnne Julius and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 1990 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Natural gas resembles oil in fulfilling a wide variety of uses as both a source of energy and a feedstock, but the proportion of world production that is traded internationally is very much lower, and insufficient for a world price of gas to be established. This book addresses the issues of how the economic price of gas is determined. These are illustrated with estimates of the costs of exploration and production of gas, and of the benefits to be derived from its use in various economic sectors for a number of Third World countries.

Book Flexibility in Natural Gas

Download or read book Flexibility in Natural Gas written by Sylvie Cornot-Gandolphe and published by OECD, International Energy Agency. This book was released on 2002 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Flexibility is needed to cover seasonal swings and variations in gas demand, as well as to maintain short-term supply security in the case of a disruption of a supply source. In order to balance supply and demand, gas companies have devised a variety of flexibility tools such as supply swing, storage and interruptible contracts. This book analyses how new flexibility tools and mechanisms are developing with market liberalisation, and considers the differences in flexibility requirements and provisions among IEA member countries.
