Her first book contained post cards and letters from three former Presidents and a First Lady in response to poems Pat had written and sent to them. Both books contain political-type poems. Poems in her sequel, her second book, Pat wrote between 2010 and 2022. In 2015 Pat had hip replacement, and her husband had a massive stroke. There did not seem to be time or inclination to write. In 2021 Pat’s husband passed away, she moved, again, leaving little time for writing. Pat feels at her age, these last days of her life, she needs to get the poems into a book or they will die in her computer when she passes away. They will be lost and gone forever. Perhaps in distant future years there will be those interested in events that occurred in our country’s previous years. Thoughts in rhyme makes it easy to read. The poems speak to events, and about those in power at different given times. The poems reveal what was happening, politically, through those years. Questions to ponder: Did parties in power serve their constituents or was it about power and greed? Sadly with the Biden Administration it was the latter plus utter incompetence. Were “powers that be” abiding by the Constitution? Were they interested in limited government or about controlling people’s lives? Did they believe in free speech and the 2nd Amendment? Did they believe in abortion? Did they believe in free enterprise, free market? Were they for or against redistribution of wealth? Most of these things are concerns of Conservatives. Most have heard the three most important things in life are God, Family, and Country. These make for a strong, free America.

Informed by his "new historicist" understanding of the construction of literary texts, Jimmie Killingsworth examines the progression of Whitman's poetry and prose by considering the textual history of Leaves of Grass and other works. Killingsworth demonstrates that Whitman's "poetry of the body" derives its radical power from the transformation of conventional attitudes toward sexuality, traditional poetics, and conservative politics. The sexual relation, with its promise of unity, love, equality, interpenetration, and productivity for partners, becomes a metaphor for all political and social relationships, including that of poet and reader. The effect of the poems is protopolitical, an altering of consciousness about the body's relation to other bodies, a shifting of the categories of knowledge that foretells political action. Killingsworth traces the interplay in Whitman's poetry between sexual and textual themes that derive from Whitman's political response to the historical turbulence of mid-century America. He describes a subtle shift in Whitman's prose writings on poetics, which turn from a view of poetry in the early 1850s as morally and politically efficacious to a chastened romanticism in the postwar years that frees the poet from responsibility for the world outside his poems. Later editions of Leaves of Grass are marked by the poet's deliberate repression of erotic themes in favor of a depoliticized aestheticism that views art not as a motivator of political and moral action but as an artifact embodying the soul of the genius.

The antagonists readers will meet in these pages by no means constitute a monolithic force. They were not ideologically of a kind. But aesthetically. Well, yes, aesthetically they were more or less unified; they knew what they formally opposed, and the narrative of that surprising unity lies at the center of this study. A few of these people did work together, such as the band of poets and poetry editors - most of them reactionary antimodernists - that the prolific Stanton Coblentz helped assemble under the banner of the League for Sanity in Poetry. Others among Coblentz's colleagues, however, would not have recognized themselves as allies; quite aside from their hatred of modern poetry, differences between them - academic, theoretical, personal - would have gotten in the way. To my knowledge, this is the first book written about the overall effects of actual anticommunism on modernist American poetry and poetics. Such a blank in our understanding of American art and artists has its specific causes. A main cause is the apparent disappearance of the evidence for links between and among disparate, truculent McCarthyite elements in the poetry world and their ''communist poet'' enemies and the modernist experimenters who have not been known to have connections to the communist movement.
