Download or read book Assured written by Greg Gilbert and published by Baker Books. This book was released on 2019-03-19 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite our professions of belief, our baptisms, and our membership in the church, many of us secretly wonder, Am I truly saved? We worry that our love for Jesus isn't fervent enough (or isn't as fervent as someone else's). We worry that our faith isn't strong enough. We struggle through the continuing presence of sin in our lives. All this steals the joy of our salvation and can lead us into a life characterized by legalism, perfectionism, and works righteousness--the very life Jesus freed us from at the cross! But Greg Gilbert has a message for the anxious believer--be assured. Assured that your salvation experience was real. Assured that your sins--past, present, and future--are forgiven. Assured that everyone stumbles. Assured that Jesus is not your judge but your advocate. With deep compassion, Gilbert comforts readers, encouraging them to release their guilt, shame, and anxiety to rejoice in and follow hard after the One who set them free.

Download or read book Future Israel written by Barry E. Horner and published by B&H Publishing Group. This book was released on 2007 with total page 418 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Future Israel: Why Christian Anti-Judaism Must Be Challenged is volume three in the NEW AMERICAN COMMENTARY STUDIES IN BIBLE & THEOLOGY (NACSBT) series for pastors, advanced Bible students, and other deeply committed laypersons. Author Barry E. Horner writes to persuade readers concerning the divine validity of the Jew today (based on Romans 11:28), as well as the nation of Israel and the land of Palestine, in the midst of this much debated issue within Christendom at various levels. He examines the Bible's consistent pro-Judaic direction, namely a Judeo-centric eschatology that is a unifying feature throughout Scripture. Not sensationalist like many other writings on this constantly debated topic, Future Israel is instead notably exegetical and theological in its argumentation. Users will find this an excellent extension of the long-respected NEW AMERICAN COMMENTARY.
Download or read book The Future of Christian Marriage written by Mark Regnerus and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2020-08-01 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Marriage has come a long way since biblical times. Women are no longer property, and practices like polygamy have long been rejected. The world is wealthier, healthier, and more able to find and form relationships than ever. So why are Christian congregations doing more burying than marrying today? Explanations for the recession in marriage range from the mathematical--more women in church than men--to the economic, and from the availability of sex to progressive politics. But perhaps marriage hasn't really changed at all. Instead, there is simply less interest in marriage in an era marked by technology, gender equality, and secularization. Mark Regnerus explores how today's Christians find a mate within a faith that esteems marriage but in a world that increasingly yawns at it. This book draws on in-depth interviews with nearly two hundred young-adult Christians from the United States, Mexico, Spain, Poland, Russia, Lebanon, and Nigeria, in order to understand the state of matrimony in global Christian circles today. Regnerus finds that marriage has become less of a foundation for a couple to build upon and more of a capstone. Meeting increasingly high expectations of marriage is difficult, though, in a free market whose logic reaches deep into the home today. The result is endemic uncertainty, slowing relationship maturation, and stalling marriage. But plenty of Christians innovate, resist, and wed, and this book argues that the future of marriage will be a religious one.

Download or read book Satisfaction Guaranteed written by Jonathan Berry and published by Inter-Varsity Press. This book was released on 2016-05-19 with total page 141 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Convinced that real satisfaction can be found only in a relationship with Jesus Christ, the author aims to encourage, inspire and equip all who struggle with same-sex temptations to resist, but ‘make him their greatest treasure and live life to the full’. He invites us to dig deep and discover great truths about our awesome God and his plans and purposes for our lives, for only then can we live bravely, boldly and counter-culturally. He writes candidly, humbly and sensitively, with fellow strugglers in mind, but also their friends, families and the church leaders who support them, interweaving deeply personal stories from real life. God is good. He can be trusted even in the most painful situation. The surprising paradox is that it is the narrow road that leads to the abundant life promised by Jesus.

Download or read book Blessed Assurance A Demonstration That Christian Fundamentalism Is Simply False written by Michael Tenenbaum and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2007-07 with total page 223 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: BLESSED ASSURANCE is a powerful and compelling book. Biblical errors are discussed with understanding of how Christian apologists and theologians think and respond. Extra attention is given to errors that are undeniable. I had yet to encounter several of them elsewhere. Tenenbaum's treatment is in depth yet readable. By the time you're done with the chapters on doctrine it will be clear that biblical Christianity is incoherent at its core. This book is as valuable for its communicating style and process of thinking as it is for the potent case it makes. It will help atheists better understand how Christians think and what sort of points are most likely to get thru to them. It will help Ex-Christians to reinforce their conclusion that the faith is false. It will help Christians to grow out of their faith, or perhaps strengthen it despite an avalanche of evidence. STRONGLY RECOMMENDED!
Download or read book Ancient Future Time Ancient Future written by Robert E. Webber and published by Baker Books. This book was released on 2004-10-01 with total page 269 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Millions of Christians worldwide follow the liturgical Christian calendar in their worship services and in their own personal devotions. The seasons of the Christian year connect believers of diverse backgrounds and offer the sense of unity Jesus desired. Robert Webber believes that we can get even more out of the Christian calendar. He contends that through its rich theological meanings the Christian year can become a cycle for evangelism and spiritual formation. He offers pastors, church leaders, and those of the "younger evangelical" mind-set practical steps to help achieve this end, including preaching texts and worship themes for Lent, Easter, Pentecost, Advent, and Christmas.
