The miracles of Jesus may be well known, but they're often misunderstood. In The Wonder-Working God, pastor Jared Wilson wants to help us see that there's more than meets the eye when it comes to the miraculous events recorded in the Gospels. Book Miracles of Healing in the Gospel of Mark

Download or read book Miracles of Healing in the Gospel of Mark written by John I. Penn Sr. and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2021-12-01 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Early on in my study, it became evident that Mark was not simply recounting the healing incidents that Jesus had performed. Mark looked at the healing miracles of Jesus through the lens of God’s perspective. What was significant to Mark and what captured my spiritual imagination was his interpretation of the healing miracles. He made it clear to the readers that Jesus clearly understood the redemptive implications of his mission as the Jewish healer-redeemer. Jesus fully embraced his Messianic mission to bring salvation to the Hebrew people. He would become the perfect sacrificial lamb of God to bring about the restoration of fallen humanity. In and through him, God’s good creation would be restored. Through Jesus’ sacrificial death, God would create a new covenant of grace, which could be acceptable to both Jews and Gentiles. The healing miracles demonstrated the defeat of sin, sickness, death, and the evil influence of Satan’s demonic forces. Jesus did this by not only removing our sins but also taking the consequences of our sins upon himself, nailing them to the cross. All of Jesus’ healing miracles were interpreted similarly. I found Mark’s gospel both inspiring and informative, allowing me to see the heart, love, compassion, and mind of God for His creation.

Book excerpt: Discover the miracle you’ve been looking for through an exploration of nine miracles of Jesus, each filled with meaning, insight, and discovery for all who desperately need a miracle of their own. Healing the blind. Walking on water. Calming the storm. Feeding thousands with a few loaves and fish. Every miracle Jesus performed was for a purpose. There was provision for that specific moment in time. But what if each miracle was also embedded with the promise of future provision…for you? In Find Your Miracle, New York Times best-selling authors Kerry and Chris Shook take a fresh look at nine of Jesus’s most incredible times of healing and supernatural intervention. The Shooks unpack these moments in modern language to usher you into the pain, desperation, breakthrough, and miracle of each encounter. Plus they reveal a “miracle map” that connects that moment long ago to our needs today for revelation, transformation, and restoration. Weaving together the biblical narrative with contemporary real-life application, Kerry and Chris Shook arrange these New Testament miracles under four overarching descriptions of Jesus the Miracle Worker: the Healer, the Provider, the Storm Chaser, and the Life Giver. Rather than running from our overwhelming situations, the Shooks encourage us to remain steady, fully trusting that Jesus stands ready to guide us to the miracle we most need, and possibly least expect.

Book Fact and Faith

Download or read book Fact and Faith written by David L. Bartlett and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2007-08-01 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How shall we interpret the stories of miracles, particularly the resurrection, in this secular age? The author calls us to look beyond the fact of a miracle to faith in what the miracle means. To do this, he tells us, we must first of all try to understand what actually happened in history. However, he warns us that merely knowing what happened will not necessarily lead to vital Christian faith. In developing his theme, the author discusses the way in which each of the Four Gospels presents miracles, the meaning of exorcism in the New Testament and today, and the significance of the resurrection accounts. Throughout, the author suggests significant themes for preaching.

Book The Miracles of Jesus

  • Author : Vern S. Poythress
  • Publisher : Crossway

  • ISBN : 1433546108
  • Pages : 191 pages

Download or read book The Miracles of Jesus written by Vern S. Poythress and published by Crossway. This book was released on 2015-11-17 with total page 191 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Christians often view Jesus’s miracles simply as proofs of his divinity. However, as prolific author Vern Poythress shows in this new book, they also serve as “signs of redemption,” foreshadowing the salvation that Christ accomplished through his cross and resurrection. This means that the stories of Jesus’s miracles—like the calming of the storm or the feeding of the 5,000—are relevant for both Christians and non-Christians alike, clearly pointing to the gospel. After setting forth a framework for viewing all of Jesus’s miracles through this lens, Poythress then reflects on the meaning and significance of 26 distinct miracles recorded in the Gospel of Matthew—helping modern readers understand and apply them to their own lives today.

Book Mission in the New Testament

Download or read book Mission in the New Testament written by William J. Larkin and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a comprehensive articulation of New Testament teachings on mission from a contemporary American evangelical standpoint. Mission in the New Testament contributes a fresh statement of the biblical foundations of mission, serving as a catalyst for completion of the church's universal mission in this generation. After investigating the historical background of the idea of mission in the Hebrew Scriptures, inter-testamental Judaism, the life of Jesus and the beginnings of the church, the book proceeds in a roughly canonical order through the New Testament. Essays analyze the works of Paul, the Synoptic gospels, Acts of the Apostles, the General Epistles, and the Book of Revelation. Well-versed in the historical-critical method of biblical interpretation, editors and contributors alike offer a cogent argument for recovering the "missional horizon" of the New Testament.

We dont hear of many miracles, and more peopleeven some in the Christian communityhave stopped believing, expecting, or even waiting for a miracle. So where are the miracles? Book Jesus The Person and the Mission

Download or read book Jesus The Person and the Mission written by John R. Morris and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2024-06-14 with total page 351 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a search for the Jesus of history, the Jesus experienced by his disciples during his public life. Its objective is to discover the authentic words and deeds attributable to Jesus with historical certitude. It accounts for his Jewish religious background and the historical context in which he carried out his mission. Central to this work is Jesus’ relationship to his Abba and his personal understanding of his mission. Special attention is devoted to the major events and teaching of Jesus: his baptism, his miracles, his preaching and parables, and his Last Supper. The Jesus of history, the person and his words and deeds, are foundational for the faith of the early church and the written Scriptures that followed his death and resurrection. They are also foundational for contemporary faith. This book is based on and benefits greatly from the most recent biblical and theological scholarship. It attempts to make manageable a large amount of scholarly literature that can be intimidating to the casual reader. Its aim is also to serve both faith and theological enquiry by providing an effective source for the reader’s personal reflection, intellectual curiosity, and a basis for faith.

Book The Miracles of Jesus and Their Flip Side

Download or read book The Miracles of Jesus and Their Flip Side written by Jerry L. Schmalenberger and published by CSS Publishing. This book was released on 2000 with total page 97 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The miracles of Jesus are some of the most striking passages in the New Testament -- they bring the power of God "up close and personal" by dramatically rearranging human situations and teaching us great spiritual truths. But how can we translate the sometimes arcane historical content of the miracle stories in a way that will be meaningful to contemporary sensibilities? Jerry Schmalenberger has come up with an original solution in these thirteen well-crafted sermons on miracle stories contained in the Revised Common Lectionary. Using the analogy of old 45 rpm records which were usually released with a "hit" side and a "flip" side, Schmalenberger shares a structure for presenting the miracles in narrative form. He initially focuses on the traditional approach to each miracle (the "A" or "hit" side), and then offers a fresh look at the "other side of the story" (the "B" or "flip" side). Schmalenberger's punch, contemporary language, and narrative style produce hard-hitting and inspirational messages that offer a unique twist in the interpretation of these fascinating stories. Jerry L. Schmalenberger has taught speech and communication at Wittenberg University and Urbana College and was a parish pastor for 29 years, serving some of the nation's largest Lutheran congregations. Recently retired as professor of parish ministry and president of Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary in Berkeley, California, he now serves as a Global Mission Volunteer for the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Schmalenberger has preached and taught throughout the world, most recently teaching with the faculty of the Lutheran Seminary in Hong Kong. Schmalenberger has also taught at seminaries in Germany, Jamaica, Argentina, Surinam, Indonesia, and Liberia. A graduate of Wittenberg University and Hamma School of Theology in Springfield, Ohio (where he received his D.Min. degree), Schmalenberger was honored by Wittenberg with a D.Div. degree.

Book excerpt: I have prayed for others and seen instant healing miracles and received supernatural words of knowledge about them. I have also received miracles through prayer and others praying for me. I believe in a living God who has shown me through personal experience that He is real. The Bible clearly reveals God's will for every believer to walk in the miraculous. If you're tired of a Christian walk that has no evidence of God's manifested power, all it takes is to replace some wrong beliefs so that unbelief can be cast out. This is what I believe the Holy Spirit wants to do through this book "Messiah's Miracles-The Power of Having Faith in Jesus Christ".Under the New Covenant of Grace, every blessing is received by faith. If you have been trying to earn your miracles by showing your devotion to God by your works, it's no wonder you don't see any miracles. Faith comes by hearing about Jesus and this book is all about Jesus and designed to impart faith to the reader. During Jesus' ministry on earth, He didn't work any miracles by His own authority as God. He relied completely on faith in His Father and the power of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit purposefully chose 37 of Jesus' miracles to be recorded in the four gospels. This is no coincidence. Each miracle reveals something powerful about our Lord Jesus.I believe that as you read about the 37 miracles of Jesus in the four gospels, faith will arise in your heart to receive miracles in your own life. As you behold Jesus in His love, goodness and grace, you will see transformation in yourself and in your circumstances. No self-help book can do that. Only the preached Gospel has God's power to save in all ways. As you set aside time to read about Jesus in all His majesty and beauty, I'm trusting that God will honor your faith and command a chain of long-awaited breakthroughs in your life.
