Book Is the Book of Genesis Weird

Download or read book Is the Book of Genesis Weird written by Lev Roemmerbet and published by Archway Publishing. This book was released on 2022-07-14 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It’s easy to select and interpret some of the tales of the Book of Genesis that narrate contradictory stories of the same event, which means that one of the stories or the two of them are false. In Is the Book of Genesis Weird?, author Lev Roemmerbet analyzes and slightly rejects some contradictions and lies presented in the book of Genesis as if they were true. Written to help you to develop abilities to evaluate and reason, he addresses a host of questions about Genesis: Aren’t the myths of the book of Genesis adapted from the Egyptian and from the Mesopotamian myths? Where did God come from, and where was he before he created the heavens and the earth? Did God create man or did man create God? What is Eden? Did the Lord extradite Adam so he (the Lord) could freely create Cain and Abel? Did Abram impregnate Hagar (his second and simultaneous wife) hermaphroditically? Was Seth the first hermaphrodite son that God created with Eve, as Isaac was the “son-on-the-knees” that the Lord created with Sarah? Is the Book of Genesis Weird? helps you discover some of the irreconcilable contradictions, immoralities, and lies within the Book of Genesis. It encourages you to not be afraid to acquire valuable knowledge and not to become Bible literate.

Download or read book Own Your Weird written by Jason Zook and published by Running Press Adult. This book was released on 2019-09-10 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tired of all the "shoulds" that guide your life? Want to create a life full of meaning? Work on your own terms? See the world a little differently? Then it's time to Own Your Weird. Creative entrepreneur Jason Zook certainly walks the walk of "owning his weird." He's had some crazy yet successful schemes -- he's made over a million dollars by having more than 1,600 companies pay him to wear their t-shirt (a project called I WearYour Shirt). Later he auctioned off his last name twice, for $50K each time. He then self-published his first book Creativity for Sale by nabbing sponsors and generating $75K in revenue. Now Own Your Weird is targeted to other potential "out of the box" thinkers who dream not only of doing work on their own terms, but also creating a meaningful life. Consider Jason your spirit guide, offering strategies for honing in on what makes you weird, recognizing when feedback is just another form of procrastination, and how to stop with social media already. There's a specific set of strategies and exercises that can help you prioritize your life over your business, by identifying your MMM (Minimum Monthly Magic) number. He also offers examples from his own life (how he got out of $124K worth of debt, escaped the pressure to have a big wedding, and has thrived on social media by primarily ignoring it). Own Your Weird is the permission slip you need to take that big risk. To finally chase down that big idea. And to let go of "supposed to" thoughts. See how life opens up when you break out of the blueprint.

  • Author : Zhao Lu
  • Publisher : Bloomsbury Publishing
  • Release : 2024-03-21
  • ISBN : 1350327573
  • Pages : 241 pages

Download or read book Weird Confucius written by Zhao Lu and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2024-03-21 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Spanning antiquity until the present, Zhao Lu analyses the eclectic and fictitious representations of Confucius that have been widely celebrated by communities of people throughout history. While mainstream scholarship mostly considers Confucius in terms of his role as a celebrated man of wisdom and as a teacher with a humanistic worldview, Zhao addresses the weirder representations. He considers depictions of Confucius as a prophet, a fortune-teller, a powerful demon hunter, a shrewd villain of 19th century American newspapers, an embodiment of feudal evils in the Cultural Revolution, and as a cute friend. Zhao asks why some groups would risk contradicting the well-accepted image of Confucius with such representations and shows how these illustrations reflect the specific anxieties of these communities. He reveals not only how people across history perceived Confucius in diverse ways, but more importantly how they used Confucius in daily life, ranging from calming their anxiety about the future, to legitimizing a dynasty, stereotyping Chinese people, and even to forging a new sense of history.

Book Weird Pennsylvania

Download or read book Weird Pennsylvania written by Matthew Lake and published by Sterling Publishing Company, Inc.. This book was released on 2005 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Quaker State, the Keystone State, the Coal State-Pennsylvania is called all of these. But we like to call it the Weird State, because there's enough strange stuff going on here to fill an encyclopedia or, better yet, a book appropriately called Weird Pennsylvania. And who better to chronicle this state's roadside oddities, ancient mysteries, ghosts, and bizarre beats than Matt Lake, who, just like Benjamin Franklin, isn't from our state at all but sure has it in his bones. From the time he first arrived here last century, Matt has traveled thousands of miles, searching out Pennsylvania's best kept secrets and oddest legends. Scuttling about by every means available-except maybe the horse-drawn vehicles favored by some of our more famous citizens-and with notebook and camera in hand, Matt has gamely entered haunted houses, trekked lesser-traveled roads, discreetly photographed shoe-shaped houses, and made his way warily through abandoned mental institutions. Sheer force of will stopped him from buying a heart-shaped bathtub at the Mount Airy Lodge auction, but he did explore the wreck of the place so that we, admirers of the weird, could see the sad demise of another bit of Pennsylvania strangeness. So turn the pages and see the Statue of Liberty in the Dauphin Narrows, the dead and buried Corvette near Irwin, the tiny town of Midgetville, the Ape Boy of Chester, and Resurrection Mary in Schnecksville. Traipse through ghostly Eastern State Penitentiary, listen to the Screaming Lady in Fort Mifflin, and sympathize with Mrs. Snell, who was rained on by mud, lots of mud. Swim with the Monster of Lake Erie, bravely wander down Devil's Road, chat with the Green Man of Pittsburgh, and, if you dare, sit beneath Skull Tree. It's all here, it's all for you, it's all...very weird. A brand-new entry in the best-selling Weird U. S. series, Weird Pennsylvania is packed with all the info about the Quaker State that your history teacher never taught you. So travel down our state's highways and byways with Matt by your side. It's a great adventure. And we promise: It's a journey you'll never forget. Book jacket.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are some travellers who think when they cross the Tamar, over that fairy bridge of Brunel's, hung aloft between the blue of the river and the blue of the sky, that they have left England behind them on the eastern shore—that they have entered a new country, almost a new world. This land of quiet woods and lonely valleys, and bold brown hills, barren, solitary—these wild commons and large moorlands of Cornwall seem to stand apart, as they did in the days gone by, when this province was verily a kingdom, complete in itself, and owning no sovereignty but its own. It is a beautiful region which the traveller sees, perchance for the first time, as the train skims athwart the quaint little waterside village of Saltash, and pierces the rich depths of the woodland, various, enchanting. Now the line seems strung like a thread of iron in mid-air above a deep gorge, now winds sinuous as a snake through a labyrinth of hills. A picturesque bit of road, this between Plymouth and Bodmin Road, at all times; but, perhaps, loveliest in the still evening hour, when the summer sunset steeps the land in golden light, while the summer wind scarcely stirs the woods. In the mellow light of a July eventide the express from Paddington swept with slackened speed round the curve which marked the approach to a viaduct between Saltash and Bodmin Road—a heavy wooden structure, spanning a vale of Alpine beauty. An exquisite little bit of scenery, upon which the stranger is apt to look with some touch of fear mingled in the cup of his delight: but to the dweller in the district, familiar with every yard of the journey, the transit is as nothing. He is carried through the air serenely, as he smokes his cigar and reads his paper, and the notion of peril never occurs to him. One man, sitting by the window of a third-class carriage near the end of the train, looked out at the familiar scene dreamily to-night. He was an elderly, gray-headed man, a parish doctor, hard-worked and poorly paid; but he had a keen eye for the beautiful in Nature, dead or living, and familiar as this spot was to his eye, it always impressed him. He sat with his face to the engine, puffing lazily at his black briarwood, and gazing at the landscape, in that not unpleasant condition of bodily and mental fatigue, when the mind seems half asleep, and the external world is little more than a dream-picture. The train was not a long one, a good many of the London coaches having been left behind at Plymouth. Dr. Menheniot put out his head, and surveyed the line of carriages as they rounded the curve. There was a figure here and there by a window; but the train seemed sparsely occupied. They were nearing the viaduct. That narrow thread of water trickling over its rocky bed in the depth of the gorge was in winter a rushing torrent. The line at this point was under repair, and the wooden palisade had been removed in the progress of the work. The actual danger was in nowise increased by the absence of this barrier, which would have crumbled like matchwood before the weight of the train, had the engine run off the rails—but there was a seeming insecurity to the eye of the traveller as he looked into the gulf below; and Dr. Menheniot gave an involuntary shudder.
