Book The Bisexual Christian Suburban Failure Enlightening Bipolar Blues

Download or read book The Bisexual Christian Suburban Failure Enlightening Bipolar Blues written by Justin Blackburn and published by . This book was released on 2019-09-04 with total page 111 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I came out of the womb already on fire from the homophobic hell of the Southern Baptist Church. Their Savior said 'Love Your Neighbor' yet they hated me for expressing my love? My childhood was how sinful I am, what pills to swallow, how ashamed I made my father. My honorable judge father lol, he beat me, belittled me, sent me to Gay-to-Straight Christian Conversion Camps where I was mole...whoa, we're just meeting each other, sorry.Senior year daddy dearest said "stop being queer, attend my Alma Mater, join my frat or be homeless!" Deeply desiring a family, I caved. Yeah, I still hate me for it too. I entered the University of Alabama as the role my father cast but no amount of beer bongs turned off my inner truth so I turned to Jesus. The more I learned the more I wanted to heal the sick, feed the poor, embody his message. So on my 21st instead of beers with bros, I drove home to give Dad my truth. I thought since Jesus inspired me he'd understand instead he strangled me, said if I come back he'd finish the job. I still hear mom screaming 'look what you made him do...'WTF am I doing? You don't care about me. You only care about getting retweets and subscribers on fucking Youtube. You don't care that I was locked in a mental institution for no reason and break out to find my partner cheating, my job firing me, and becoming homeless. You don't care about the trauma beat into my childhood. You don't care about what's keeping you from embodying your deepest truth. Fuck, I'm sorry, you're not supposed too. That's my job. That's why I wrote this. The Bisexual Christian Suburban Failure Enlightening Bipolar Blues is me confronting my trauma and changing it so I can embody who I am so I can help change this fucking stupid disconnected beautiful world!

In this bold, graphic memoir, she explores her sexuality, her values, and the versions of love our society accepts and practices. Book Quadrophenia and Mod ern Culture

Download or read book Quadrophenia and Mod ern Culture written by Pamela Thurschwell and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-11-07 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection explores the centrality of The Who’s classic album, and Franc Roddam’s cult classic film of adolescent life, Quadrophenia to the recent cultural history of Britain, to British subcultural studies, and to a continuing fascination with Mod style and culture. The interdisciplinary chapters collected here set the album and film amongst critical contexts including gender and sexuality studies, class analysis, and the film and album’s urban geographies, seeing Quadrophenia as a transatlantic phenomenon and as a perennial adolescent story. Contributors view Quadrophenia through a variety of lenses, including the Who’s history and reception, the 1970s English political and social landscape, the adolescent novel of development (the bildungsroman), the perception of the film through the eyes of Mods and Mod revivalists, 1970s socialist politics, punk, glam, sharp suits, scooters and the Brighton train, arguing for the continuing richness of Quadrophenia’s depiction of the adolescent dilemma. The volume includes new interviews with Franc Roddam, director of Quadrophenia, and the photographer Ethan Russell, who took the photos for the album’s famous photo booklet.

Book Political Correctness

Download or read book Political Correctness written by Geoffrey Hughes and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2011-09-13 with total page 4 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Political Correctness “Geoffrey Hughes has brought together with great panache the very many manifestations of political correctness, both absurd and vicious, and shown how they express a single collective mind-set. His book establishes beyond doubt that there is such a phenomenon, that it has become dominant in our culture, and that it represents a growing tendency to censor public debate and to prevent people from questioning orthodoxies which we all know to be false.” Roger Scruton, American Enterprise Institute “What a joy this book is! Hughes’ study traces, with unflagging zest, the modern history of PC. Sumptuous in data, in judgment precise, this is the latest and fullest of Hughes’ series on the social history of language.” Walter Nash, Professor Emeritus, University of Nottingham Political Correctness is now an everyday phrase and part of the modern mindset. Everyone thinks they know what it means, but its own meaning constantly shifts. Its surprising origins have led to it becoming integrated into contemporary culture in ways that are both idealistic and ridiculous. Originally grounded in respect for difference and sensitivity to suffering, it has often become a distraction and even a silencer of genuine issues, provoking satire and parody. In this carefully researched, thought-provoking book, Geoffrey Hughes examines the trajectory of political correctness and its impact on public life. Exploring the origins, progress, content, and style of PC, Hughes’ journey leads us through authors as diverse as Chaucer, Shakespeare and Swift; Philip Larkin, David Mamet, and J.M. Coetzee; from nursery rhymes to Spike Lee films. Focusing on the historical, semantic, and cultural aspects of political correctness, this outstanding and unique work will intrigue anyone interested in this ongoing debate.

Importantly, this collection is the first of its kind to apply a transversal approach to European Cinema, bringing together the East and the West, while providing a broad picture of key trends, aesthetics, genres, national identities, and transnational concerns. Combining accessible original research with a thorough grounding in recent histories and contexts, each chapter includes key definitions, reflective group questions, and a summative case study.
