Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Have you ever wondered about your purpose in life? It was a long time before I ever knew I had a purpose. Everything seemed that it was self-serving in life: you were supposed to have a family, a nice house, and a nice car with money in the bank. Then one day it hit me: life was not all about me. I found out that life was about friends and family, about community and relationships. I saw that to me, it was about helping kids by being a coach, and it was my purpose to be a father to four wonderful children, and to be a loving husband to my beautiful wife. This revelation caused me to take a look back at my family's history, and as a result I found some of the greatest stories I have ever heard. I saw love, hope, strength, loyalty, and honor. Most importantly, I saw faith.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Before boundaries were drawn and states were born, there lived a man named Quanah Parker. He was half white and half Comanche but, in his heart, he was one hundred percent Comanche. In his youth, he fought in a battle against the white buffalo hunters known as the "Battle of the Second Adobe Walls." After he witnessed the death of a close Comanche friend, who was killed by a Tonkawa scout of the Texas Rangers, Quanah Parker declared war on Texans. Like his father before him, Quanah Parker was a warrior. Quanah Parker and his band of Kwahadi (Quohada) were the last Comanche tribe to come into Fort Sill Reservation. Wanting to reach the Indians on the reservation, and finding it hard for him and his white officers to do so, General Mackenzie used Quanah Parker as a bridge to link the deep valleys between the Comanche people and white cultures.

For four years, Shabang is Holly's beloved pet and proud show horse. The young woman and her equine companion have a tremendous respect for and deep understanding of one another. Both are devastated when they are torn apart. Shabang and another horse, Nitro, are taken from their homes and left in the harsh wilderness of Arizona, where food and water are scarce. The wild herd that gallops across the area shuns the two lost horses as intruders, leaving them to fend for themselves. The horses face hardship and danger more dreadful than either one of them ever imagined, and they long for the days when they had owners who loved them and treated them with dignity and kindness. As a grieving Holly dreams of being reunited with Shabang and does everything in her power to find the horses, Shabang does all she can to ensure Nitro's survival in the wild, as well as her own. Shabang's Story is the inspiring tale of the unbreakable bond between a girl and her horse and how love can help conquer all obstacles.

Download or read book Quanah Parker Comanche Chief written by William T. Hagan and published by University of Oklahoma Press. This book was released on 2012-11-15 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The son of white captive Cynthia Ann Parker, Quanah Parker rose from able warrior to tribal leader on the Comanche reservation. Between 1875 and his death in 1911, Quanah dealt with local Indian agents and with presidents and other high officials in Washington, facing the classic dilemma of a leader caught between the dictates of an occupying power and the wrenching physical and spiritual needs of his people. He maintained a remarkable blend of progressive and traditional beliefs, and contrary to government policy, he practiced polygamy and the peyote religion. In this crisp and readable biography, William T Hagan presents a well-balanced portrait of Quanah Parker, the chief, and Quanah, the man torn between two worlds.
