This book was released on 2012-03-04 with total page 33 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ABOUT THE BOOK What do Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant and Jeremy Lin have in common? Heres a hint, its not that theyre basketball superstars. If you said training, then you are absolutely right. They all train hard to be able to play at their level. Those spectacular moves you see them perform at game-time are, quite simply, a product of countless hours of practice, practice, practice. But you dont have to be a basketball superstar to handle a basketball effectively. As long as you are willing to put in the time to practice, you will learn how to play like a professional. Practice really does make perfect, after all. One of the most basic, yet intrinsic skills you will need to learn is how to effectively handle a basketball. Because this is a core skill you will need to master, we shall focus our discussion on ball handling. Why is basketball handling such a crucial skill? Effective ball handling is necessary to get the ball in the right position to shoot or to pass to a teammate. Being able to maneuver the basketball from one player to the another, until it is in the hands of the open man, spells the difference between winning and losing. In fact, basketball handling fulfills such a vital function that the players with the best ball handling skills are valued assets. MEET THE AUTHOR Joseph Pritchard is a passionate reader and writer. He has a bachelor's degree in Biology and also completed a degree in medicine. He has written for other prominent online publications and enjoys writing on a variety of topics. EXCERPT FROM THE BOOK Drills and training become particularly important because they give the players opportunities to exercise. Honing their skills through rigorous training also helps wheelchair basketball players mentally healthy. So engaging in wheelchair basketball, as well as honing their basketball handling skills also has the added advantage of helping these athletes better cope with the mental, emotional, and physical challenges posed by handicapped condition. So if you or someone you care about is disabled, consider getting them involved in wheelchair basketball. Even if its just as a form of exercise, honing the skills necessary to become adept at wheelchair basketball will benefit them physically as well as mentally. Buy a copy to keep reading! Book HoopHandbook Simple to Advanced Ball Handling

Download or read book HoopHandbook Simple to Advanced Ball Handling written by Dre Baldwin and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2017-02-28 with total page 66 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 30 seconds left in a BIG game. Your team is up by one point. The ball is passed to you. You need to dribble the ball up court vs a defender draped all over you, get it across half court, and dribble out the clock - all while not turning the ball over and avoiding any violations (offensive foul, back court, 5-second, etc). Given your current ball handling skills, can you see yourself doing this? If you hesitated even a little bit on the answer, this Hoop Handbook is for YOU. -- I've been asked what I would do if I were working with someone who was being trained in basketball for the first time. Whether it's the 50-year-old lawyer who just wants to compete in his weekly half court games, or 6-year-old kids whose father wants them to try out every sport - I've trained both, and everything in between - the answer is always the same. 1. Layups 2. Ball Handling Aside from making a layup, which is the most basic way to score points in basketball (which is the very object of the game), handling the ball is the most important skill. In basketball, the only way to advance the ball from Point A to Point B is by either passing the ball or dribbling it. Passing is covered in another of our Programs. The program you hold in your hands covers the dribbling part, in all aspects.

Book The Art of a Beautiful Game

Download or read book The Art of a Beautiful Game written by Chris Ballard and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2009-10-23 with total page 404 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In The Art of a Beautiful Game, Chris Ballard, the award-winning Sports Illustrated writer who has covered the NBA for the past decade, goes behind the scenes to examine basketball in ways that will surprise even die-hard fans. An inveterate hoops junkie who played some college ball, Ballard sits down with the NBA's most passionate, cerebral players to find out their tricks of the trade and to learn what drives them, taking readers away from the usual sports talk radio fodder and deep into the heart of the game. Ballard talks to Dwight Howard, a prolific shot-blocker, about the enervating feeling of meeting another man at the height of his leap; challenges Steve Kerr to a game of H-O-R-S-E to understand the mentality of a pure shooter; reveals the roots of Kobe Bryant's unmatched killer instinct; and spends time with LeBron James to better understand both his mental game and his seemingly unlimited physical skills. He tracks down renowned dunkers from Dominique to Shaq to explore the impact of the dunk on the modern game, shadows Shane Battier during his preparations to defend LeBron, takes lessons from a freethrow shooting guru who once hit 2,750 in a row, and attends an elite NBA training camp to feel the pain that turns a prospect into a pro. Packed with lively characters and basketball history, and grounded in superb writing and the reportage that is the hallmark of Sports Illustrated, The Art of a Beautiful Game is an often witty, always insightful look at the men like Steve Nash, Yao Ming, and Alonzo Mourning who devote themselves to this elegant and complicated sport. It ultimately provides basketball fans what they all want: an inside read on the game they love.
