Book The Apocalypse of Being

Download or read book The Apocalypse of Being written by Mario Enrique Sacchi and published by Burns & Oates. This book was released on 2002 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Heidegger intended to replace metaphysics by a new kind of thought about that which he called Sein, but in his works this noun is very far from meaning the act of being such as it has been traditionally conceived by Western philosophy. His explanations as to what he does mean by Sein underline his departure from traditional metaphysics. Sein is no longer to be understood as the act of the things that exist in the eternal world, but as something revealed to the human mind in an esoteric way. The association of this esoteric revelation of Sein with Holderlin's theosophy led Heidegger to put forward a new gnosis organized as a substitute of metaphysics and of Christian theology as well.

Book The Dawning of the Apocalypse

Download or read book The Dawning of the Apocalypse written by Gerald Horne and published by NYU Press. This book was released on 2020-06-30 with total page 243 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Acclaimed historian Gerald Horne troubles America's settler colonialism's "creation myth" August 2019 saw numerous commemorations of the year 1619, when what was said to be the first arrival of enslaved Africans occurred in North America. Yet in the 1520s, the Spanish, from their imperial perch in Santo Domingo, had already brought enslaved Africans to what was to become South Carolina. The enslaved people here quickly defected to local Indigenous populations, and compelled their captors to flee. Deploying such illuminating research, The Dawning of the Apocalypse is a riveting revision of the “creation myth” of settler colonialism and how the United States was formed. Here, Gerald Horne argues forcefully that, in order to understand the arrival of colonists from the British Isles in the early seventeenth century, one must first understand the “long sixteenth century”– from 1492 until the arrival of settlers in Virginia in 1607. During this prolonged century, Horne contends, “whiteness” morphed into “white supremacy,” and allowed England to co-opt not only religious minorities but also various nationalities throughout Europe, thus forging a muscular bloc that was needed to confront rambunctious Indigenes and Africans. In retelling the bloodthirsty story of the invasion of the Americas, Horne recounts how the fierce resistance by Africans and their Indigenous allies weakened Spain and enabled London to dispatch settlers to Virginia in 1607. These settlers laid the groundwork for the British Empire and its revolting spawn that became the United States of America.

Book The Apocalypse of Elena Mendoza

Download or read book The Apocalypse of Elena Mendoza written by Shaun David Hutchinson and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2018-02-06 with total page 448 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Junior Library Guild Selection “Surreal, brainy, and totally captivating.” —Booklist (starred review) “Provocative and moving.” —Publishers Weekly (starred review) “Hutchinson artfully blends the realistic and the surreal.” —School Library Journal (starred review) From the critically acclaimed author of We Are the Ants and At the Edge of the Universe comes a mind-bending, riveting novel about a teen who was born to a virgin mother and realizes she has the power to heal—but that power comes at a huge cost. Sixteen-year-old Elena Mendoza is the product of a virgin birth. This can be scientifically explained (it’s called parthenogenesis), but what can’t be explained is how Elena is able to heal Freddie, the girl she’s had a crush on for years, from a gunshot wound in a Starbucks parking lot. Or why the boy who shot Freddie, David Combs, disappeared from the same parking lot minutes later after getting sucked up into the clouds. Other things that can’t be explained are the talking girl on the front of a tampon box, or the reasons that David Combs shot Freddie in the first place. As more unbelievable things occur, and Elena continues to perform miracles, the only remaining explanation is the least logical of all—that the world is actually coming to an end, and Elena is possibly the only one who can do something about it.

Book The Apocalypse Unsealed 1910

Download or read book The Apocalypse Unsealed 1910 written by James M. Pryse and published by Book Jungle. This book was released on 2006 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The purpose of this book is to show that the Apocalypse is a manual of spiritual development and not, as conventionally interpreted, a cryptic history or prophecy. In the following pages the reader will find the complete solution of the Apocalyptic enigma, with ample proof of the correctness of that solution. As the subject dealt with in the work is, however, familiar to only a comparatively few special students of the sacred science, which to the many has ever been a sealed book, the exposition here given is put in the form of an elementary treatise. If it were written for the few, it would have been expanded to great bulk; but as it is intended for the many, the author has kept within the limits of a small volume, avoiding everything mystical, scholastic and controversial, using plain, concise language, and employing technical terms only when they are required by the nature of the subject."

Book The Fanaticism of the Apocalypse

Download or read book The Fanaticism of the Apocalypse written by Pascal Bruckner and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2013-04-25 with total page 153 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The planet is sick. Human beings are guilty of damaging it. We have to pay. Today, that is the orthodoxy throughout the Western world. Distrust of progress and science, calls for individual and collective self-sacrifice to ‘save the planet’ and cultivation of fear: behind the carbon commissars, a dangerous and counterproductive ecological catastrophism is gaining ground. Modern society’s susceptibility to this kind of thinking derives from what Bruckner calls “the seductive attraction of disaster,” as exemplified by the popular appeal of disaster movies. But ecological catastrophism is harmful in that it draws attention away from other, more solvable problems and injustices in the world in order to focus on something that is portrayed as an Apocalypse. Rather than preaching catastrophe and pessimism, we need to develop a democratic and generous ecology that addresses specific problems in a practical way.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Startling and Sensational Disclosure of the Secret Meanings of St. John's "Book of Revelation." THE Apocalypse is really a book within a book, a meaning concealed by symbolic language and a series of ingenious puzzles. The solution of all these puzzles is given by Mr. Pryse, and the meaning of the book, as a whole and in every detail, is explained in clear, terse language. Thus deciphered, the Apocalypse stands out as a concise, systematic treatise on THE MYSTERIES OF INITIATION. It discloses the esoteric basis of genuine Christianity. In THE APOCALYPSE UNSEALED there is no vague mysticism, theorizing, speculation, or dogmatic assertion. Its statements are backed up by convincing evidence, and rest upon sound and careful scholarship. St. John's marvelous cryptogram sweeps away the whole structure of dogmatic theology, and demonstrates what were the real teachings of the great Founder of Christianity. It is the "lost chord" of Christianity. -The Word, Vol. 24 [1916]

Purchasers can usually download a free scanned copy of the original book (without typos) from the publisher. Not indexed. Not illustrated. 1910 edition. Excerpt: ... for its own divine purposes, the body is the adytum of the God; but the elements composing it have become foul during the long ages of material evolution, so that the soul is ever being tainted and instigated to evil by the impure emanations and vicious impulses which have become inherent in the physical organism. It is thus a Mystery at once divine and infernal, at which the seer represents himself as gazing in wonder. Crater As a Goddess, the infernal Aphrodite, the depraved Virgo symbolizes the anima bruta, or lower world-soul, which is saturated with sexuality. In this r6le she holds a cup, which is the adjacent constellation Crater, the Mixing-bowl fabled to have belonged to Iacchos, the God of orgiastic revelry. CH. Xvii. 6-8 I saw the Woman intoxicated with the blood of the devotees and with the blood of the witnesses of ISsous. When I saw her, I gazed in wonderment, with great curiosity. Said the Divinity to me: "Why did you wonder? I shall tell you the mystery of the Woman, and of the Beast that was carrying her, which has the seven heads and the ten horns. The Beast which you saw was, and is not, and is about to come up out of the abyss and go to destruction. Those who dwell on the earth--[the men] whose name has not been registered on the scroll of life since the evolution of the world--will wonder when they look at the Beast, because he was, and is not, and shall be present! COMMENTARY The red Dragon, the epithumetic, passional nature, is the principle which, in close alliance with the Beast, or phrenic mind, impels the soul to continue to incarnate, and he thus sustains the Woman, who typifies physical existence. He rises from the abyss, the impure elements, and is again disintegrated in them when the soul is purified. The...
