The translator has always held that to transform a book from one language into another needs the collaboration of members of both nationalities, and he wishes to express bis indebtedness to Fraiilein Kloss for having read through the whole of the German text with him. Not only the text, but also the p- torial material has been extended and brought into harmony with the present state of knowledge.
