Book excerpt: The Alpha Parchments is a new translation of the first five books of the Holy Bible, also referred to as The Torah. This work represents over 30 years of studying and comparing Bible translations but uses a new approach to making the Bible both very readable and accurate to the original Hebrew at the same time. The King James Version and Young’s Literal Translation have been employed as the "base text". For many this version will retain much of the literary style of those time honored works but all archaic language has been replaced with modern English. More importantly however, this version endeavors to be extremely accurate to the Hebrew definitions that comprise the original text. As a result new discoveries and a greater detail to the Biblical story has now been obtained. [author bio]Dallas James was born in 1950 in Sacramento, California and has lived most of his life in Seattle, Washington. He is a Christian who has spent over thirty years studying and comparing Bible translations.

"You must fulfill your duty as my Luna. you are no longer a church maid, Rosaria." He grabbed my legs as he spread them apart. "You will be rewarded with my seed, and you will reach ecstasy just to be filled." "But I didn't want this! I only wanted to be pure!" "You were never pure to begin with. Not as long as you are born in this accursed pack." *** All of her life, Rosaria devoted herself to the Hatiist Church. Hati, the Sun God and one of the sons of the Great Wolf, Fenrir, who attempted to eat the Moon Goddess and a threat to the werewolf race. But was he truly a danger despite his genuine love for them? So, she stayed at the covenant and prayed for their god's return. However, just before her ordination, the Alpha King of the Skollist pack came to the scene and declared her his fated mate. "Bear me a child who can rule over the pack," he said. Lord Varick despised Hati for bringing damnation to their pack and forced Rosaria to be his Luna - and her life changed for the worse.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Footprints in Parchment Rome Versus Christianity 30-313 AD masterfully tackles the question: How did a group of Christians with no homeland and no standing army defeat the juggernaut of ancient Rome? Using hundreds of first-hand accounts of events, Silver guides the reader through the rise and the reach of Imperial Rome to its eventual ruin and rescue by the infant Christian Church. Over a three hundred year period Rome killed tens of thousands of Christians in an attempt to eradicate this new religion that it correctly intuited would bring Rome to its knees. Tertullian had said in the early 200s, The blood of the martyrs is the seed of the church. Why did Rome kill all those people just because they believed in a Jewish carpenter from an obscure part of her Empire and why did so many Christians willingly die? The martyrs died for the religious freedom to publicly say the words Christianus sum. I am a Christian. They won that right. Rome Versus Christianity leads the reader down the road of Romes decline and Christianitys rise. There are many fascinating sights along the way.

Book Making Amulets Christian

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Making Amulets Christian: Artefacts, Scribes, and Contexts examines Greek amulets with Christian elements from late antique Egypt in order to discern the processes whereby a customary practice—the writing of incantations on amulets—changed in an increasingly Christian context. It considers how the formulation of incantations and amulets changed as the Christian church became the prevailing religious institution in Egypt in the last centuries of the Roman empire. Theodore de Bruyn investigates what we can learn from incantations and amulets containing Christian elements about the cultural and social location of the people who wrote them. He shows how incantations and amulets were indebted to rituals or ritualizing behaviour of Christians. This study analyzes different types of amulets and the ways in which they incorporate Christian elements. By comparing the formulation and writing of individual amulets that are similar to one another, one can observe differences in the culture of the scribes of these materials. It argues for 'conditioned individuality' in the production of amulets. On the one hand, amulets manifest qualities that reflect the training and culture of the individual writer. On the other hand, amulets reveal that individual writers were shaped, whether consciously or inadvertently, by the resources they drew upon-by what is called 'tradition' in the field of religious studies.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Henry Daniel's Liber Uricrisiarum is the earliest known work of academic medicine written in Middle English, presented here for the first time in a complete edition. Working in the late 1370s, Daniel combined authoritative medicine from written sources with his own personal experience, creating a text that stands out for its linguistic originality, intellectual scope, and wide circulation. Extant in over three dozen manuscript witnesses and two early modern print copies, Liber Uricrisiarum describes medieval humoral theory, anatomy, physiology, disease, medical astronomy, reproductive processes, and more, all within the broader context of uroscopic diagnosis. The introduction situates the text and its author in their medical, intellectual, linguistic, and bibliographic contexts, outlining the uroscopic tradition to which Daniel contributes, and describing the relationships among the many manuscripts containing the Liber Uricrisiarum. This edition presents the Middle English text, with a general glossary, glossary of proper names, and explanatory notes that explain obscure words and phrases and identify Daniel's sources. It also includes the complete set of diagrams contained in the Royal manuscript; appendices providing the Latin and English versions of the prologue and epilogue; an extensive translation from one of Daniel's important sources, Isaac Israeli's De urinis; tables relevant to Daniel's astronomical measurements; and an analysis of the Royal manuscript's dialect. Cumulatively, the edition and apparatus introduce readers to an important yet understudied text, the details of which will have significant impact on studies of medieval medicine and science, intellectual history, and Middle English language and literature.
