The book also touches on other issues including the treatment of the Akha by American missionaries and the destruction of their culture by the same.

In 2003 Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra ordered a "Drug War" in Thailand. Thousands of people were murdered or died in "mysterious" circumstances. Many of them were hilltribe. This book documents some of the killings. The book also describes other human rights problems the Akha face including the removal of Akha children to residential schools by American missionaries which destroys their culture, language and knowledge system by separating them from their families and villages and forcing conversion. The missions advertise the children to their donors as orphans and advertise their facilities as orphanages when in fact most of the Akha children have one or both parents still alive. The book also describes land rights problems, land seizures, forced relocations, medical problems and other events affecting the Akha.
