Book excerpt: The term "1992 Project" refers to the portion of the 1987 Single European Act that commits the European Community to the completion of a single integrated market by 1992. The project has brought about a dramatic revival of interest in the EC and this volume is a product of that revival. It provides evaluations and estimates of the future of the integration process and of the EC itself. The contributors share two broad themes. The first is a view of the integration process as a multilevel game. The second is consideration of the consequences of that process.

This book was released on 1993 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Spurred on by the Single European Act of 1987 and by the plan to complete the Single Market by January 1, 1993, European integration has grown in scope and ambition with the profound changes in Europe's political and security landscape over the past several years. The Maastricht Treaty, agreed to at a meeting of the European heads of state and government on December 9-10, 1991, was a further step in the evolution of the European Community that in turn triggered a far-reaching debate on the future of European integration. This report examines how the process of European integration has has shaped and will shape the future European economic, political, and security environment and assesses the implications of these developments for U.S. policy. It covers developments up to the European Community summit in Edinburgh on December 11-12, 1992. It contributes to a larger project on the future U.S. role in Europe and implications for the United States Army. The broader project examines Europe's evolution since the end of the bloc-to-bloc system and the future U.S. and U.S. Army role in and contribution to European security.

Book The United States of Europe A future vision on the European Union

Download or read book The United States of Europe A future vision on the European Union written by Emmely Schröder and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2022-05-24 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Seminar paper from the year 2018 in the subject Cultural Studies - European Studies, grade: 2,3, http://www.uni-jena.de/, course: BA.IWK.P2, “Kulturspezifisches Wissen und Handeln Seminar Zielkultur” “Perspectives on Europe“(146262), language: English, abstract: The European Union is faced with interlinked challenges these days, a financial and social crisis together with an economic and political crisis. Likewise, there is a revive of an authoritarian Russia, a return of the `German problem` in form of a European wide austerity policy, the rise of secessionist movements in Scotland, Catalonia, and other regions, a European refugee crisis, the growing of sceptical voices against the European Union all over Europe and the insecurity that comes with the `Brexit`. Thus, the question arises how to overcome the current weakness, this crisis of confidence within the European system. It is widely discussed how the future Europe will look like and what needs to change. It is beyond dispute that something needs to Changes in order to save the European community. The answer could be a loose confederation or a full political integration, a “United States of Europe” with a centralized Power. In this paper, the federal model of the United States of Europe will be discussed, showing of the difficult situation in Europe nowadays and one out of many solutions for the European future. The idea of a federal Europe is not new and returned in the last few years and was widely discussed in politics, media and the public discussion. The further European integration should, referring to most spokesman, be done as a federal state following the model of the United States of America. It is a hypothetical model which cannot be implemented in short time and should be handled as a long-term project. Treaty changes, or even the approach of a constitution, are difficult and need to be well prepared in long political debates and votes. There are some main advocators of the model, especially in politics, to whom I will mainly refer to and create a comprising insight in this visionary concept. The current crisis reflects that something needs to be changed in the system to save Europe and not to lose all the things that have been achieved past years. The subject is not fully researched, reflecting the idea with different manifestations and variations. It is uncertain whether it will ever take place in Europe, and how exactly it would look like. For further european development the final goal of European Unification needs to be defined.

And what are the policies and best practicies to manage migration in a more coherent and evidence-based way?

Book Neoliberalism National and Regional Experiments with Global Ideas

Download or read book Neoliberalism National and Regional Experiments with Global Ideas written by Ravi K. Roy and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2006-12-13 with total page 394 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Critics of globalization often portray neoliberalism as an extremist laissez-faire political-economic philosophy that rejects government any sort of government intervention in the domestic economy. Like most over-used terms, it is more complicated than this introductory sentence suggests. This volume seeks to move beyond these caricature depictions and definitions as well as the emotional rhetoric that has unfortunately dominated both the scholastic and political debate on neoliberalism and global market-oriented reform. This book emphasizes that there are in fact a variety of neoliberalisms that share a common emphasis on the role of the market. Beyond this however, its usages and applications appear much more varied according to the cultural, economic, political, and social context in which it is used. A host of eminent contributors, including Douglass C. North, Arthur T. Denzau, Thomas D. Willett, Mark Blyth, Colin Hay, Craig Parsons, and others provide a rigorous assessment of the significance of neoliberal ideas on economic policy. Through their detailed international case studies the contributors to this book show how varied its impact has in fact been and the result is a book that will stimulate further debate in this most controversial of subject matters. Ravi K. Roy is a Research Scholar at the Claremont Institute for Economic Policy Studies. Arthur T. Denzau is Professor of Economics at Claremont Graduate University. He is also a Research Associate at the Center for American Business at Washington University (St. Louis).Thomas D. Willett is Horton Professor of Economics at Claremont Graduate University. He is also Director of the Claremont Institute for Economic Policy Studies
