The institute was organized by Professor B. Yarar of the Colorado School of Mines, Golden, Colorado, 80401, USA, Professor G. Ozbayoghu and Professor Z. M. Dogan of METU-Ankara, Turkey, who was the director. The purpose of the institute was to provide an international forum on the subject and update the information available. Participants were from Turkey, England, Greece, Spain, Portugal, Belgium, Canada, and the USA. Besides authors contributing to this volume, presentations were also made by Drs. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis introduces a new integrated algorithm for the detection of lane-level irregular driving. To date, there has been very little improvement in the ability to detect lane level irregular driving styles, mainly due to a lack of high performance positioning techniques and suitable driving pattern recognition algorithms. The algorithm combines data from the Global Positioning System (GPS), Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) and lane information using advanced filtering methods. The vehicle state within a lane is estimated using a Particle Filter (PF) and an Extended Kalman Filter (EKF). The state information is then used within a novel Fuzzy Inference System (FIS) based algorithm to detect different types of irregular driving. Simulation and field trial results are used to demonstrate the accuracy and reliability of the proposed irregular driving detection method.

Book excerpt: There is a growing number of applications that require fast-rotating machines; motivation for this thesis comes from a project in which downsized spindles for micro-machining have been researched. The thesis focuses on analysis and design of high-speed PM machines and uses a practical design of a high-speed spindle drive as a test case. Phenomena, both mechanical and electromagnetic, that take precedence in high-speed permanent magnet machines are identified and systematized. The thesis identifies inherent speed limits of permanent magnet machines and correlates those limits with the basic parameters of the machines. The analytical expression of the limiting quantities does not only impose solid constraints on the machine design, but also creates the way for design optimization leading to the maximum mechanical and/or electromagnetic utilization of the machine. The models and electric-drive concepts developed in the thesis are evaluated in a practical setup.

Entrepreneurship contributes to the development of innovative technologies, processes as well as business systems which in turn influences the prevailing market structures in the economy disrupting the competition existing in the markets. Nonetheless it bound to impact the capital formation in the economy and thus the growth of the economy. The inter relations between credit extension by commercial banks, entrepreneurship and economic growth are investigated in this paper empirically using autoregressive models.
