Book Disneyfying Ile De France

Download or read book Disneyfying Ile De France written by Anne-Marie d’Hauteserre and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2020-11-17 with total page 399 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book captures the history, as well as the meaning and the value of the on-going partnership between the French state and the Walt Disney Company, remembering that it involved from the start more than a tourism project. It examines how the combined aspirations of the French state and the American Company transformed Val d’Europe as the sole potential location in Europe for the Company’s theme parks while allowing the state to retain its egalitarian ideals. Most critics believed the French state had caved into every demand of the Company. No one ever mentioned profits of the state that it would then invest to support other projects. The first part of the book investigates the encounter between the partners and the reasons why a welfarist state encouraged penetration by a capitalist enterprise, alongside the Company’s reasoning. The second section reveals the continued cooperation between the two entities in the management of the urbanization of Val d’Europe from the opening of the first Park and the start of a new major tourism development, in spite of criticisms and fluctuating attendance in the parks. The third part highlights more recent actions of the partners to create a formidable urban tourism pole that will attract ever more visitors, while still critically examining their effectiveness and sustainability.

Book Economic Management and French Business

Download or read book Economic Management and French Business written by M. Maclean and published by Springer. This book was released on 2002-10-02 with total page 309 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How is it that the modest pace of change which typified the French economy a century ago gave way after 1945 to a new, revived capitalism and a superior economic performance? Maclean traces the development of French economic and business life in the context of the European and international economy over the past fifty years. She examines the main economic trends and events: from nationalization to privatization; from war with Germany to reconciliation and ever-greater union; from the franc to the euro; and from national champions to mega-mergers with foreign companies. Maclean argues that the new French capitalism of the twenty-first century is the product of an ideological struggle in which the forces of modernization triumphed over the old guard of French nationalism.

Book L Antis mitisme clair

Download or read book L Antis mitisme clair written by Ilana Zinguer and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2021-10-11 with total page 488 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume principally deals with perceptions on Jews dating from the beginnings of their emancipation to the Dreyfus Affair. The title in French, and the original title of the colloquium in Hebrew, ‘Enlightened Antisemitism’ not only reflects the overall anti-religious (anti-Christian and, hence, by necessity, anti-Jewish) sentiments of an Enlightenment figure such as Voltaire, but also refers to those who justified either their philosemitism or antisemitism with erudition: Johann David Michaelis, Antoine Guénée, Charles Maurras, etc. With France as its focal point, the volume also contains essays that treat various perceptions of Jews during the same period in England, Germany, and Italy. Interdisciplinary in nature, this collection of essays treats the Jewish question from historical, literary, and sociological angles.
