Book Space Technologies for the Benefit of Human Society and Earth

Download or read book Space Technologies for the Benefit of Human Society and Earth written by Phillip Olla and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-03-18 with total page 567 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Overview of Space Technology It has been over 50 years since the rst satellite was sent into orbit, and the impact of space technology can be felt in many aspects in our day to day life. In addition to the convenience of knowing exactly where we are on the planet via GPS satellites; or deciding what to pack for a trip based on forecasts from weather satellites; watching CNNinaremotevillageviabroadcasting satellites;therearenowsomecrucialen- ronmental uses of Space technologies in the areas of natural resources management and environmental monitoring. Remotely sensed data reveals an unparallel view of the Earth for systems that require synoptic or periodic observations such as inv- tory control, surveying, agriculture, business, mineralogy, hydrography, geology, land mass cover, land utilization and environment monitoring. The advancement of remote sensing has made remote sensed data more affordable and available to merge with a variety of data sources to create mash-ups. The amalgamation of these data sources into disciplines such as agriculture, urban planning, web applications, cartography, geodetic reference systems, and global navigation satellite systems, are an important advancement of space applications and space science. Space Technology and Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) The MDGs are a set of time-bound, measurable goals and targets that are global as well as country-speci c for combating poverty, hunger, diseases, illiteracy, envir- mental degradation and discrimination against women.

Book Spacecraft Techniques And Technology

Download or read book Spacecraft Techniques And Technology written by Cnes and published by Éditions Cépaduès. This book was released on 2005-06 with total page 2528 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This new version of the Spacecraft techniques and technology courses was written by more than eighty engineers and experts specialised in the various fields. The courses draw on the long experience and technical competence of the Toulouse Space Centre in developing and building satellites or experimental payloads. This 3-volume book is the 4th edition of the course which has now been updated and translated for the first time into English. All of the texts were written by specialists, the aim being to pass on some of their know-how to engineers and technicians wishing to widen or update their technical knowledge. The first volume deals with missions and related constraints, spacecraft dynamics, the space environment and methods for developing and controlling the quality of spacecraft. The second volume deals with payloads (for telecommunications, observation, science, location-navigation) first from a mission perspective and then with respect to their technical and technological aspects. The third volume covers the techniques and technology used for satellite platforms, namely, mechanical, structural and thermal aspects, propulsion, stabilisation, electricity and computing.

Book Handbook of Space Technology

Download or read book Handbook of Space Technology written by Wilfried Ley and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2009-03-18 with total page 908 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Twenty years since the first edition was published in the German language, and just over fifty years since the launch of the Earth’s first ever artificial satellite Sputnik 1, this third edition of the Handbook of Space Technology presents in fully integrated colour a detailed insight into the fascinating world of space for the first time in the English language. Authored by over 70 leading experts from universities, research institutions and the space industry, this comprehensive handbook describes the processes and methodologies behind the development, construction, operation and utilization of space systems, presenting the profound changes that have occurred in recent years in the engineering, materials, processes and even politics associated with space technologies and utilization. The individual chapters are self-contained, enabling the reader to gain a quick and reliable overview of a selected field; an extensive reference and keyword list helps those who wish to deepen their understanding of individual topics. Featuring superb, full colour illustrations and photography throughout, this interdisciplinary reference contains practical, hands-on engineering and planning information that will be invaluable to those on a career path within space technology, or simply for those of us who’d like to know more about this fascinating industry. Main section headings include: Introduction (historical overview, space missions) Fundamentals (orbital mechanics, aerothermodynamics/ reentry, space debris) Launch Vehicles (staged technologies, propulsion systems, launch infrastructure) Space Vehicle Subsystems (structure, energy supply, thermal controls, attitude control, communication) Aspects of Human Flight (man in space, life support systems, rendezvous and docking) Mission Operations (satellite operation, control center, ground station network) Utilization of Space (Earth observation, communication navigation, space astronomy, material sciences, space medicine, robotics) Configuration and Design of a Space Vehicle (mission concept, system concept, environmental simulation, system design, Galileo satellites) Management of Space Missions (project management, quality management, cost management, space law)

Book Advanced To Revolutionary Space Technology Options The Responsibly Imaginable

Download or read book Advanced To Revolutionary Space Technology Options The Responsibly Imaginable written by National Aeronautics and Space Adm Nasa and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2019-01-13 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Paper summarizes a spectrum of low TRL, high risk technologies and systems approaches which could massively change the cost and safety of space exploration/exploitation/industrialization. These technologies and approaches could be studied in a triage fashion, the method of evaluation wherein several prospective solutions are investigated in parallel to address the innate risk of each, with resources concentrated on the more successful as more is learned. Technology areas addressed include Fabrication, Materials, Energetics, Communications, Propulsion, Radiation Protection, ISRU and LEO access. Overall and conceptually it should be possible with serious research to enable human space exploration beyond LEO both safe and affordable with a design process having sizable positive margins. Revolutionary goals require, generally, revolutionary technologies. By far, Revolutionary Energetics is the most important, has the most leverage, of any advanced technology for space exploration applications. Bushnell, Dennis M.
