Book Taxonomy of the Mexican Species of Belonuchus Nordmann Coleoptera Staphylinidae

Download or read book Taxonomy of the Mexican Species of Belonuchus Nordmann Coleoptera Staphylinidae written by Juan Márquez and published by . This book was released on 2022 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Abstract: Belonuchus is a diverse genus in the subtribe Philonthina (subfamily Staphylininae, tribe Staphylinini), with some of its species being frequently collected. For the majority of the Mexican species of Belonuchus, little or no taxonomic information has been reported after their original description. For this reason, the Mexican species of Belonuchus were taxonomically revised based on the study of specimens deposited in several Mexican and international collections. We propose eight species groups to accommodate the Mexican species, five of them supported by one unique diagnostic character. Keys to species groups and species in each group, together with photos and drawings of diagnostic structures, are included. Redescriptions of the 29 known species, descriptions of 16 new species, with information about intraspecific variation in terms of secondary sexual dimorphism and size, two new country records (Mexico and Guatemala) and 26 new state records are also included. We propose B. xanthopus Solsky, 1868 and B. celatus (Sharp, 1885) as new synonyms of B. connexus (Say, 1830); B. iteratus (Sharp, 1887) as a new synonym of B. xanthomelas Solsky, 1868; B. latecinctus (Sharp, 1885) as a new synonym of B. iridescens Solsky, 1868; and B. mexicanus Solsky, 1864 as a new synonym of B. viridipennis Baudi di Selve, 1848. Lectotypes were designated for: Belonuchus cariniventris Bernhauer, 1918; Philonthus trochanterinus Sharp, 1885; Philonthus zunilensis Sharp, 1885; Belonuchus jalappensis Bernhauer, 1917; Philonthus iteratus Sharp, 1887; Belonuchus nigerrimus Bernhauer, 1918; and Belonuchus pectinipes Bernhauer, 1910. The Mexican species of Belonuchus are mostly recorded from cloud forest (60%), oak forest (51.1%) and oak-pine forest (46.6%). Keywords: Distribution, identification, Mexico, Philonthina, new species, rove beetles"--Page 4.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Abstract: The taxonomic diversity of species and genera of Staphylinidae and their distribution in Latin America are discussed and listed/tabulated based on published literature. In total, 11,675 species in 1075 genera are reported from Latin America. South America has the most recorded species for Latin America, 7773 including 7079 endemic species. The four subfamilies with the highest total number of genera including endemic genera are Aleocharinae, Staphylininae, Pselaphinae, and Paederinae. All recorded genera and their synonyms are listed alphabetically within the subfamilies of Staphylinidae, providing a catalog of published genera for Latin America. Two hundred forty-four color or black and white images of species representing different genera are provided. Book Biology of Rove Beetles Staphylinidae

Download or read book Biology of Rove Beetles Staphylinidae written by Oliver Betz and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-05-15 with total page 345 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rove beetles (Staphylinidae) are common elements of the soil biota, living in the litter and deeper soil layers. Although they are one of the most diverse and speciose groups of insects, no comprehensive books on their general evolution and ecology are as yet available. This book fills that gap, discussing significant aspects and active research examples in the fields of phylogeny and systematics, ecology and conservation, and reproduction and development. The combination of review chapters and case studies provides an excellent introduction to the biology of rove beetles and enables readers to become familiar with active research fields in this megadiverse group of beetles. Offering easy access to these fields, it also demonstrates how staphylinids are used as bioindicators in applied ecosystem research, including that concerning conservation issues. Experienced scientists and beginners alike find the diversity of subjects covered intriguing and inspiring for continuing and starting their own research. The book is intended for students and researchers in biology and zoology (entomology), including morphologists, ecologists, soil scientists, evolutionary biologists, paleontologists, biogeographers, taxonomists and systematists.

Book The Mexican Transition Zone

Download or read book The Mexican Transition Zone written by Juan J. Morrone and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-07-02 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents an evolutionary biogeographic analysis of the Mexican Transition Zone, which is situated in the overlap of the Nearctic and Neotropical regions. It includes a comprehensive review of previous track, cladistic and molecular biogeographic analyses and is illustrated with full color maps and vegetation photographs of the respective areas covered. Given its scope, the book will be of interest to students and researchers whose work involves systematic and biogeographic analyses of plant and animal taxa of the Mexican Transition Zone or other transition zones of the world, and to ecologists working in biodiversity conservation, who will be able to appreciate the evolutionary relevance of the Mexican Transition Zone for establishing conservation areas..

This book was released on 2011-12-22 with total page 581 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the first of four volumes in the Handbook of Zoology series which treat the systematics and biology of Coleoptera. With approximately 350,000 described species, Coleoptera are by far the most species-rich order of insects and the largest group of animals of comparable geological age. The beetle volumes will meet the demand of modern biologists seeking to answer questions about Coleoptera phylogeny, evolution, and ecology. This first Coleoptera volume covers the suborders Archostemata, Myxophaga and Adephaga, and the basal series of Polyphaga, with information on world distribution, biology, morphology of all life stages (including anatomy), phylogeny and comments on taxonomy.
