Book Tables of Coulomb Wave Functions

Download or read book Tables of Coulomb Wave Functions written by A. V. Luk'Yanov and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tables of Coulomb Wave Functions (Whittaker Functions) focuses on tables compiled in the Mathematical Physics Department in conjunction with the Nuclear Reactions Laboratory of the Nuclear Physics Research Institute of Moscow State University. The book first states that Coulomb wave functions are used in the theory of nuclear reactions with charged particles, including protons, deuterons, and heavy ions. The text then offers information on the compilation and use of tables. The publication proceeds by highlighting the computations of various wave functions. These computations are presented in tabulated form. The manuscript also provides a list of volumes in the mathematical tables series. The book is a dependable source of data for scientists, engineers, and students working in the field of nuclear reactions.

Book An Introductory Guide to Computational Methods for the Solution of Physics Problems

Download or read book An Introductory Guide to Computational Methods for the Solution of Physics Problems written by George Rawitscher and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-10-24 with total page 227 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph presents fundamental aspects of modern spectral and other computational methods, which are not generally taught in traditional courses. It emphasizes concepts as errors, convergence, stability, order and efficiency applied to the solution of physical problems. The spectral methods consist in expanding the function to be calculated into a set of appropriate basis functions (generally orthogonal polynomials) and the respective expansion coefficients are obtained via collocation equations. The main advantage of these methods is that they simultaneously take into account all available information, rather only the information available at a limited number of mesh points. They require more complicated matrix equations than those obtained in finite difference methods. However, the elegance, speed, and accuracy of the spectral methods more than compensates for any such drawbacks. During the course of the monograph, the authors examine the usually rapid convergence of the spectral expansions and the improved accuracy that results when nonequispaced support points are used, in contrast to the equispaced points used in finite difference methods. In particular, they demonstrate the enhanced accuracy obtained in the solutionof integral equations. The monograph includes an informative introduction to old and new computational methods with numerous practical examples, while at the same time pointing out the errors that each of the available algorithms introduces into the specific solution. It is a valuable resource for undergraduate students as an introduction to the field and for graduate students wishing to compare the available computational methods. In addition, the work develops the criteria required for students to select the most suitable method to solve the particular scientific problem that they are confronting.

Book A Method for the Calculation of Large Numbers of Dipole and Quadrupole Transition Probabilities

Download or read book A Method for the Calculation of Large Numbers of Dipole and Quadrupole Transition Probabilities written by Lawrence P. Shomo and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A computer program is presented which selects allowed transitions and calculates dipole and quadrupole transition probabilities for transitions with LS coupling and no equivalent electrons, based on an extension of the Coulomb approximation formalism to quadrupole and higher multipole transitions. Absorption oscillator strengths or f-values calculated by (1) the self-consistent-field method, (2) the scaled Thomas-Fermi method, (3) the Coulomb approximation method, (4) the variational method, and (5) the effective charge method for singlet and triplet transitions in neutral helium are presented and compared. The Coulomb approximation f-values calculated with the present computer program are found to be in good agreement with the results obtained by the more sophisticated methods.
