In 1999 and 2001 empirical, cross-cultural profiling of foreign perceptions of Australia was undertaken in four countries to see if responses differed, and/or if similar patterns of change were observable before and after the Olympics. The countries were the USA, Malaysia, Hong Kong and South Africa. This spread enabled us to examine the responses of Western, Asian and African cultural formations.
