Book Agriculture Poverty and Reform in Iran RLE Iran D

Download or read book Agriculture Poverty and Reform in Iran RLE Iran D written by Mohammad Amad and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2012-04-27 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As in many developing countries, the prospects for land reform in Iran seemed promising. It was expected to improve rural poverty and stimulate agricultural development by replacing the traditional landlord-peasant system with more peasant-biased, modern farming. This book assesses the economic consequences of land reform, focusing particularly on its effect on the living standards of the rural poor. Amid describes a ‘biomodal’ system of large and small farms that emerged after the reform. Large farms, with government support, modernized and grew more profitable cash crops, whereas small farms found difficulty in obtaining credit and continued to rely on traditional techniques and staple food crops. Land reform was not, the author argues a success for the majority of the Iranian rural population who experienced virtually no improvement in living standards and a growth of rural inequality as a result.

This book was released on 2019-12-09 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Due to more and more frequent extreme climate events (floods, drought, and frosts) and due to the changes in precipitation (amounts, seasonality, intensity) and warming temperatures that are impacting rainfed agriculture and changing growing seasons, the Ministry of Jihad-e-Agriculture (MOJA) of the Islamic Republic of Iran asked the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) to provide assistance in setting up an improved agriculture monitoring system, based on integral use of advanced geospatial technologies to support development of the techniques, policy and investment conditions to achieve sustainable agricultural development under the current changing conditions of climate. The project has focused on the identification of state-of-the-art methods and strategy for acreage and yield estimation, based on an assessment of the existing monitoring methodology, optimized through the use of remote sensing. In addition, the project benefitted from the availability of multi-temporal satellite images for testing and monitoring of a range of crops in 3 selected pilot areas: the provinces of Zanjan and Mazandaran and the region of the south of Kerman. The publication reports data collected, processes followed and results obtained at this stage of the still not completely concluded study.

Book Opportunities and Strategic Use of Agribusiness Information Systems

Download or read book Opportunities and Strategic Use of Agribusiness Information Systems written by Che, Ferdinand Ndifor and published by IGI Global. This book was released on 2020-12-18 with total page 333 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Due to such factors as poor economic conditions, climate change, and conflict, food security remains an issue around the world and especially in developing nations. Rapid changes in technology over the last decade has brought a renewed focus on how information and communication technologies (ICTs) and application systems are deployed to improve rural competitiveness. Unfortunately, agricultural stakeholders in developing countries, particularly in Africa, have not been able to reap comparable benefits from adopting agricultural information systems as compared to their counterparts in the developed economies. Understanding the challenges that hinder the effective adoption of agricultural information systems and identifying opportunities or innovations is imperative to improve the agricultural sectors and overcome the problems in these developing economies. Opportunities and Strategic Use of Agribusiness Information Systems is an essential reference book that examines the key challenges that hinder the effective adoption of agricultural information systems. Moreover, it identifies and evaluates opportunities for the strategic deployment of ICTs and information systems to drive agricultural development for the benefit of agricultural sector stakeholders in emerging countries. While highlighting such topics as agricultural entrepreneurship, food value chain, and innovation systems, it is intended to provide sound and relevant frameworks and tools that will aid agricultural industry practitioners, smallholder farmers, and managers of agricultural extension systems looking to make more effective and responsible decisions when selecting, planning, deploying, and managing agribusiness information systems. It is additionally targeted for agricultural funding organizations, government policymakers, academicians, researchers, and students concerned with exploiting the potential of a variety of ICTs and information systems in the quest to achieve food security and poverty reduction in emerging economies.

Book Perspectives on Iran s environmental policy process Issues and constraints

Download or read book Perspectives on Iran s environmental policy process Issues and constraints written by Aghmashhadi, Amir Hedayati and published by Intl Food Policy Res Inst. This book was released on 2018-12-18 with total page 33 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Due to the increase in environmental problems in Iran at the national and regional levels, it is crucial to establish sound and sustainable environmental policies. Further, it is also important to incorporate environmental considerations in the current policies being implemented in sectors such as the agriculture or energy sector. This paper applies the kaleidoscope model to understand the current policy process in Iran. Using this analysis and a literature review, we present a framework that can be applied to develop environmental policies. Studies show that the best instrument for environmental policymaking in Iran is to use the spatial planning with the double approach of activity and resource planning (based on power assessment and resource management, respectively). However, due to the environmental pressures on resources in Iran over the past decades, the current planning approach is not enough and needs to be completed in the form of resource planning.

Book Sustainable Intensification of Agriculture

Download or read book Sustainable Intensification of Agriculture written by Jules Pretty and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-06-14 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sustainable intensification (SI) has emerged in recent years as a powerful new conceptualisation of agricultural sustainability and has been widely adopted in policy circles and debates. It is defined as a process or system where yields are increased without adverse environmental impact and without the cultivation of more land. Co-written by Jules Pretty, one of the pioneers of the concept and internationally known and respected authority on sustainable agriculture, this book sets out current thinking and debates around sustainable agriculture and intensification. It recognises that world population is increasing rapidly, so that yields must increase on finite land and other resources to maintain food security. It provides the first widely accessible overview of the concept of SI as an innovative approach to agriculture and as a key element in the transition to a green economy. It presents evidence from around the world to show how various innovations are improving yields, resilience and farm incomes, particularly for ‘resource constrained’ smallholders in developing countries, but also in the developed world. It shows how SI is a fundamental departure from previous models of agricultural intensification. It also highlights the particular role and potential of small-scale farmers and the fundamental importance of social and human capital in designing and spreading effective innovations.
