Book excerpt: The book tells of the trials and tribulations of Zeeta, who has overcome many obstacles and survived different relationships. A loving marriage led to a horrendous one. Her second marriage was to a man with a depraved sexual appetite. The sunny parts were when everything was going well. There were choppy seas between when things were not going right, not just in a relationship but in general life. Also, there were times when the sea was calm and all three women were coping well. The sex within relationships was, in the most part, good to excellent. In Zeetas second marriage, sex was a nightmare. She endured and suffered. It was happy ever after on a Caribbean island. Zeeta survived with the help of two friendsone from her school days, Sheila, and the second one was Peggy, her boss and a very good friend. Their relationships and stories are part of this book.

Book excerpt: When the first white men showed up in Hawaii in 1778 it was the middle of a long fall and winter festival during which various sexual techniques were demonstrated by nude hula dancers, couples engaged in a bowling for partners game, and people played various other competitive sports. The foreign explorers assumed that the Hawaiians never worked and that sex was a universal sport-so to speak. American missionaries soon put a stop to this enlightened custom, and tried their best to completely and permanently ban hula dancing and surfing (in the nude, of course). But as time passed and the first generation of missionaries went to their reward, surfing, hula dancing and the pursuit of sexual pleasures regained some of the ground they had lost. Today's Hawaii is not as laid back as it was in its pre-missionary days, but the sun, the sand, the surf and the islands still work their seductive magic on residents and visitors alike. For vacationers, going to Hawaii is like a honeymoon whe-ther they are newlyweds or not.

Book excerpt: During the early 1900s, Africa gradually became so populated that there were only a few places left where an adventurer may hope to flourish. But there was still the Eastern Abyssinian border, a territory challenging to infiltrate, inhabited by wild tribes. Of the many tribes inhabiting this wild land, the author writes about the Somali tribe of British Somaliland. They form one of the most prominent ethnic groups on the African continent and cover one of the vastest landmasses by a single ethnic group in Africa. The Somalis have deeply religious tendencies and are the strongest of all tribes on the border. They are considered true wanderers and the most hard-working peple ever. The author and traveler Henry A. Rayne described the tribe with great detail and accuracy. He wrote about their early history, religion, trade, location, economy, and many more.

Book Sex Tourism and the Postcolonial Encounter

Download or read book Sex Tourism and the Postcolonial Encounter written by Jessica Jacobs and published by Ashgate Publishing, Ltd.. This book was released on 2012-11-28 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Illustrated by revealing interviews with women and men in the tourist resorts in the Sinai, Egypt, this book is ostensibly about western women who sleep with 'native' men while on holiday. Broadening the scope of issues involved, it examines the link between these holiday romances and a much wider romanticism of place and people – of the landscapes of paradise, deserts and the lure of the Bedouin sheikh – that are used to sell these destinations. It argues that the romantic stereotyping and deliberate positioning of 'Third World' resorts as places that somehow exist outside of the modernities the women come from is inextricably bound up in the relationships. Similarly, for the local man the tourist resort is perceived as a place other than his own cultural space and time and represents a modernity that is otherwise only found in the 'West'. The relationships that ensue can therefore only occur because the tourist resort acts as an intermediate space. In analyzing the interaction of these men and women within the context of modernity, the book provides insights into gender issues to do with globalization, travel and sexuality, as well as opening up the debate on sex tourism and showing this to be a lot more ambiguous and complicated than it might at first appear.

Download or read book After the Sun written by Jonas Eika and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2022-08-23 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Relentlessly thrilling . . . an orgy of the unpredictable.” —New York Times Book Review “Like Thomas Pynchon taking on late capitalism. . . . surrealistic, granular in its details, and concerned with social entropy and desperate attempts at communion.” —Wall Street Journal From a major new international voice, mesmerizing, inventive fiction that probes the tender places where human longings push through the cracks of a breaking world. Under Cancún’s hard blue sky, a beach boy provides a canvas for tourists’ desires, seeing deep into the world’s underbelly. An enigmatic encounter in Copenhagen takes an IT consultant down a rabbit hole of speculation that proves more seductive than sex. The collapse of a love triangle in London leads to a dangerous, hypnotic addiction. In the Nevada desert, a grieving man tries to merge with an unearthly machine. After the Sun opens portals to our newest realities, haunting the margins of a globalized world that’s both saturated with yearning and brutally transactional. Infused with an irrepressible urgency, Eika’s fiction seems to have conjured these far-flung characters and their encounters in a single breath. Juxtaposing startling beauty with grotesquery, balancing the hyperrealistic with the fantastical—“as though the worlds he describes are being viewed through an ultraviolet filter,” in one Danish reviewer's words—he has invented new modes of storytelling for an era when the old ones no longer suffice.
