Sample Book Insights: #1 Trauma is an emotional response to a terrible event like an accident, rape, or natural disaster. Post-traumatic stress disorder is a psychiatric disorder that may occur in people who have experienced or witnessed a traumatic event. #2 Adverse life experiences are events that are too much for your Emotional Heart and Mind to handle, and they lead to a disconnect between the two. This can lead to violence on various levels. #3 The simple act of avoiding the pain that needs healing may lead to a disconnect from the heart to not feel the intense emotion. When others show up in this space around this feeling, the wounded one’s responses can be numb, cold, frozen, or a desire to get out of the situation or away from the people who are comfortable in that space. #4 I knew what sex was, and I knew what violence was, at a young age. I would see my parents snort methamphetamine, and I would be given a full adult size dose of NyQuil, which would knock me out every night. I learned to keep quiet and always put a smile on my face.

Book Advances in Hydrologic Forecasts and Water Resources Management

Download or read book Advances in Hydrologic Forecasts and Water Resources Management written by Fi-John Chang and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2021-01-20 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The impacts of climate change on water resource management, as well as increasingly severe natural disasters over the last decades, have caught global attention. Reliable and accurate hydrological forecasts are essential for efficient water resource management and the mitigation of natural disasters. While the notorious nonlinear hydrological processes make accurate forecasts a very challenging task, it requires advanced techniques to build accurate forecast models and reliable management systems. One of the newest techniques for modeling complex systems is artificial intelligence (AI). AI can replicate the way humans learn and has great capability to efficiently extract crucial information from large amounts of data to solve complex problems. The fourteen research papers published in this Special Issue contribute significantly to the uncertainty assessment of operational hydrologic forecasting under changing environmental conditions and the promotion of water resources management by using the latest advanced techniques, such as AI techniques. The fourteen contributions across four major research areas: (1) machine learning approaches to hydrologic forecasting; (2) uncertainty analysis and assessment on hydrological modeling under changing environments; (3) AI techniques for optimizing multi-objective reservoir operation; (4) adaption strategies of extreme hydrological events for hazard mitigation. The papers published in this issue will not only advance water sciences but also help policymakers to achieve more sustainable and effective water resource management.

Book excerpt: Most people don't realize how much unresolved emotional pain they carry around. They don't know why they always feel depressed, anxious, victimized, or disappointed. They wonder why they keep making the same self-sabotaging impulsive decisions. These patterns often stem from their lost inner child, which carries a false narrative that has been on repeat since childhood. In Healing Your Lost Inner Child, Psychotherapist and Reiki master Robert Jackman takes you on a personal journey to explore unresolved wounds from your early life using the HEAL process for healing and embracing an authentic life. Through stories and exercises, this easy-to-read book will encourage you to learn how to stop giving in to your wounded inner child's emotional pain frozen inside a snow globe within you. Book excerpt: An insatiable need for sex and love. Periods of overeating or starving. A pattern of unstable and painful relationships. Does this sound painfully familiar? Trauma counselor Kelly McDaniel has seen these traits over and over in clients who feel trapped in cycles of harmful behaviors-and are unable to stop. Many of us find ourselves stuck in unhealthy habits simply because we don't see a better way. With Mother Hunger, McDaniel helps women break the cycle of destructive behavior by taking a fresh look at childhood trauma and its lasting impact. In doing so, she destigmatizes the shame that comes with being under-mothered and misdiagnosed. McDaniel offers a healing path with powerful tools that include therapeutic interventions and lifestyle changes in service to healthy relationships. The constant search for mother love can be a lifelong emotional burden, but healing begins with knowing and naming what we are missing. McDaniel is the first clinician to identify Mother Hunger, which demystifies the search for love and provides the compass that each woman needs to end the struggle with achy, lonely emptiness, and come home to herself.
