Book excerpt: This book entitled as Practical Manual of Gunapadam Marunthiyal (Purification of Herbal, Mineral and Animal Origin Drugs) deals with various aspects of practical guidelines for purification of raw materials from medicinally useful herbs, minerals and animal products. It covers the procedure for the individual raw materials which are already mentioned in the Siddha ancient classical literatures. It dealt with the method of purification, required raw drugs and equipment used in the process and with medicinal uses, references at the end. By knowing purification methods well, we are able to remove the various toxic compounds from Scheduled E drugs like Cherankottai, Nervalam and to potentiate as well as enhance the therapeutic properties of the other raw drugs. As Gunapadam Marunthiyal is a compulsory subject for the Second year B.S.M.S students, we covered all the possible topics which will help the students in their exam point of view as well as in medicine preparation of their own clinical practice in future. As Siddhar Agathiyar said “Marunthu suddhi gunam nigandu kanngal moondram", Medicines prepared from purified raw materials should be safe for the usage in treating the diseases.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Indian Tantras, which are numerous, constitute the scripture (Sastra) of the Kaliyuga, and as such is a voluminous source of present and practical orthodox "Hinduism". The Tantra Shastra is, in fact, whatever be its historical origin, a development of the Karmakanda (using that term in the general sense of ritual section of the scripture), promulgated to meet the needs of that age. Siva says: "For the benefit of men of the Kali age, men bereft of energy and dependent for existence on the food they eat, the Kaula doctrine, O auspicious one! is given" (Ch. IX, verse 12). To the Tantras, we must therefore look if we would understand aright both ritual, yoga, and sadhana of all kinds as they exist today, as also the general principles of which these practices are but the objective expression.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jesus Christ has taught the humanity the path of salvation and self- realization. “Peace I leave with you; I do not give to you as the world gives.” John 14 /27. The Buddha invented the path to happiness and taught us the eight fold path for samyak samadhi. Patanjali the propounder of Yogasutra advocates Ashtangayoga for emancipation – the state of ultimate peace. Everyone is entitled to achieve this emancipation or liberation even if the paths towards liberation are different. However, it can be achieved only through a spiritual journey with an earnest strive. So this book describes about the paths of liberation as discussed in Samkya and Yoga Philosophy.

Download or read book Language Texts and Society written by Patrick Olivelle and published by Anthem Press. This book was released on 2011 with total page 421 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection brings together the research papers of Patrick Olivelle, published over a period of about ten years. The unifying theme of these studies is the search for historical context and developments hidden within words and texts. Words - and the cultural history represented by words - that scholars often take for granted as having a continuous and long history are often new and even neologisms, and thus provide important clues to cultural and religious innovations. Olivelle's book on the Asramas, as well as the short pieces included in this volume, such as those on ananda and dharma, seek to see cultural innovation and historical changes within the changing semantic fields of key terms. Closer examination of numerous Sanskrit terms taken for granted as central to 'Hinduism' provide similar results. Indian texts have often been studied in the past as disincarnate realities providing information on an ahistorical and unchanging culture. This volume is a small contribution towards correcting that method of textual study.
Download or read book Abhidharma Buddhism to 150 A D written by Karl H. Potter and published by Motilal Banarsidass Publ.. This book was released on 1970 with total page 672 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Astavakragita (The Song of the Self Supreme) contains the Sanskrit text of Astavakragita (both in Nagari and Roman script), its English translation, Exegesis and Glossarial Index. It presents in twenty chapters the substance of Astavakra`s teaching in respect of the Cosmic Self in the form of his dialogue with Janaka, the seer-king of Videha. The teaching is based on the Upanisadic creed of Absolute monism (Advaitavada) that identifies the Self with the non-dual Ultimate Reality. But the contribution of Astavakra is also immense, for he has introduced the element of emotional experience or the mystical feeling as the means for realizing the non-dual nature of the Self. Written in a lucid style and dealing systematically with the subject matter, the book will hold a unique position among the contemplative classics of the world.
