Book The Older Person s Guide to New Stuff

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: STRUGGLING TO STAY IN TOUCH WITH ELDERLY PARENTS DURING THE LOCKDOWN? WANTING TO HELP ISOLATED RELATIVES WITH ONLINE ORDERING? THIS IS THE PERFECT GUIDE FOR ANYONE GRAPPLING FOR THE FIRST TIME WITH FACETIME, GOOGLE HANGOUTS OR ANY OTHER ASPECT OF THE MODERN WORLD. A handy guide for anyone who says, 'The Facebook' or 'The Google' or who asks, 'Do they deliver emails on Sunday?' This is a book for the elderly and not-so-elderly who are bamboozled not just by the technology of the contemporary world, but also various modern concepts and conceits that the more youthful take for granted. It explains a host of modern concepts and technologies that have entered everyday use and parlance but which are alien (and possibly frightening) not just to the elderly - but probably also to anyone over 45. These concepts are universal and should therefore appeal to readers in the UK, Australia, US and Europe. The definitions are all real, but entertaining, making use of easy-to-understand 'real world' references or examples to explain them.

Book The US Culture Wars and the Anglo American Special Relationship

Download or read book The US Culture Wars and the Anglo American Special Relationship written by David G. Haglund and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-05-21 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book discusses “culture” and the origins of the Anglo-American special relationship (the AASR). The bitter dispute between ethnic groups in the US from 1914–17—a period of time characterized as the “culture wars”—laid the groundwork both for US intervention in the European balance of power in 1917 and for the creation of what would eventually become a lasting Anglo-American alliance. Specifically, the vigorous assault on English “civilization” launched by two large ethnic groups in America (the Irish-Americans and the German-Americans) had the unintended effect of causing America’s demographic majority at the time (the English-descended Americans) to regard the prospect of an Anglo-American alliance in an entirely new manner. The author contemplates why the Anglo-American “great rapprochement” of 1898 failed to generate the desired “Anglo-Saxon” alliance in Britain, and in so doing features theoretically informed inquiries into debates surrounding both the origins of the war in 1914 and the origins of the American intervention decision nearly three years later.

Book The Quizinators Quizmasters Pub Quiz Book Bumper Edition 1

Download or read book The Quizinators Quizmasters Pub Quiz Book Bumper Edition 1 written by Dave Orritt and published by . This book was released on 2020-03-11 with total page 129 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is designed to be the perfect 'Ready to Use' Quiz Book for the budding or experienced Quizmaster alike. Not just a list of questions and answers, the skills of questions selection and where to pitch things has all been done for you, so you can focus on delivering an outstanding quiz you can be proud of. It is formatted, close to A4 size so you can literally photocopy your weekly quiz and read, making notes around your copy if required, adding a hint of professionalism rather than reading from a book, the answers are also conveniently written underneath the corresponding question. This is the paperback and newly revised version, containing all 4 popular volumes of 'The Quizinators Ready to Use Pub Quiz Books', exclusive to Amazon. The quizzes in this book contain a variety of question types to keep participants interested. Each quiz is structured to start easy and get progressively harder (a difficult skill to approximate, after all a question is easy when you know it!) This will give teams with more knowledge a greater challenge near the end. The book contains 40 carefully researched quizzes, intended to be used in their entirety as weekly quizzes, the selection of questions is made for you, all you need to do is present them! - Each quiz contains 30 questions of increasing difficulty and an additional tie-breaker, if required. Questions 1 - 10: Easier questions designed to give your teams some confidence and even raise some laughs.Questions 11 - 20: Medium difficulty questions, some of these may include a multiple choice element.Questions 21 - 25: Harder questions which teams will find much more challenging.Questions 26 - 30: 'The Wipeout Round' or 'Double or Quits'. It is suggested that in this section, you inform teams that each question is worth 2 points, however if one question is answered incorrectly the team 'wipes-out' and scores no points for the round, questions can however be missed out with no penalty (just receiving no points for that particular question.)About me: I am a former teacher and an experienced writer and presenter of Pub Quizzes. Over the years, my quizzes have evolved into what I believe is a tried and tested winning formula and I have decided to share this with others by providing an exact replication of the quizzes I have written and used personally in a quiz setting. Having attended many other 'hardcore' Pub Quizzes, in my opinion there is nothing worse than leaving the Pub having scored, for example, 10 out of 50. It doesn't promote retention of customers and creates an intimidating environment for others. The key for a successful pub quiz is to give teams a feeling of success and satisfaction, regardless of their level of ability. For this reason, the quizzes in this book contain a variety of question types to keep participants interested. Each quiz is structured to start easy and get progressively harder (a difficult skill to approximate, after all a question is easy when you know it!) This will give teams with more knowledge a greater challenge near the end.One of the issues often faced by a Quizmaster, is the same team winning the quiz every week. The 'Wipeout Round' at the end of each quiz contains very carefully selected questions with a gambling element. In my experience this results in different teams winning much more often.I hope my knowledge and expertise can revitalise your quizzes, whether they be for a one off event, or regular use. If you are presenting a quiz, I understand how meticulously researched well phrased questions and answers can help the cause.
