Book Study of the Rare Decay KL u2192 0 at KTeV

Download or read book Study of the Rare Decay KL u2192 0 at KTeV written by and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors study on the rare decay KL → ?0??, measure aV, and branching ratio by analyzing 96, 97 and 99 data. The measurements were taken by KTeV at Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory. After all cuts, they have 1982 KL → ?0?? candidate. The background level is estimated as 30%. KL → ?0?? branching ratio is measured as (1.29 ± 0.03(stat) ± 0.04(sys)) x 10-6. By using D'Ambrosio's theory to fit aV, aV = -(-0.31 ± 0.05(stat) ± 0.07(sys)).

Download or read book Search For the Rare Decay KL u2192 0 0 written by and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 141 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis describes a search for the rare decay KL → ?0?0? using data from the KTeV experiment, using the topology KL → ?0?$0top{D}$? (where ?$0top{D}$ → ?e+e-). Due to Bose statistics and the real nature of the photon, the KL → ?0?0? decay can proceed at lowest order only by the Cp conserving direct emission of an E2 photon. The decay vanishes to O(p4) in chiral perturbation theory and is a probe of the theory to the sixth order. The primary background to this decay consists of KL → ?0?$0top{D}$ events with one lost photon. The upper limit for the decay KL ?0?0? presented in this thesis is 2.32 x 10-7 at the 90% confidence level. This upper limit was derived from both 1997 and 1999 data, using a blind analysis. The upper limit was derived from a Feldman-Cousins method, based on a weighted total of 0.53 data events in the signal region with an expected KL → ?0?0?$0top{D}$ background of 0.37 ± 0.28 events. The previous upper limit for this decay was 5.6 x 10-6 at the 90% confidence level.

Book Measuring the Branching Ratio of the Rare Decay 0 u2192 e e

Download or read book Measuring the Branching Ratio of the Rare Decay 0 u2192 e e written by and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A precise branching ratio measurement of the rare decay ?0→e+e- has been made. The measurement was made with the rare kaon decay experiment KTeV at Fermilab where the source of ?0s was KL → ?0?0?0 decaying in flight. A total of 794 fully reconstructed KL → 3?0 events consistent with two of the intermediate ?0s decaying into ?? and one into e+e- were collected. An estimated 53.2 ± 11.0 of these events were expected to be background. Normalizing to the ?0 Dalitz decay they found Br(?0 → e+e-, (me+e-/m ?0)2 > 0.95) = (6.44 ± 0.25(stat) ± 0.22(syst)) x 10-8 where internal radiation, ?0 → e+e-(?), was limited by the requirement (me+e-/m?0)2 > 0.95 which separated it from the tree level Dalitz decay, ?0 → e+e-?.

Book A Search for the Rare Decay B0 u2192

Download or read book A Search for the Rare Decay B0 u2192 written by and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 197 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis describes a search for the rare radiative decay B0 → ??, where the charged congugate mode is implied throughout. These decays are highly suppressed in the Standard Model where the branching fraction is expected to be of order 10-8. In some new physics scenarios this could be enhanced by up to an order of magnitude to 10-7. Therefore an observation of a significant signal above the Standard Model prediction could be a sign of new physics.

Book Search for the Rare Decay B u2192 l l in the BaBar Experiment

Download or read book Search for the Rare Decay B u2192 l l in the BaBar Experiment written by and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 167 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The rare decay B → ?ll- is the simplest manifestation of a b → dl+l- flavor-changing neutral current (FCNC) process. This type of process only proceeds through penguin loop or box diagrams and is sensitive to physics at the electroweak scale. It can be used to constrain parameters of the Standard Model and its extensions. B → ?l+l- events have not yet been observed; the branching fraction is expected to be an order of magnitude smaller than the measured branching fraction for the similar B → Kl+l- decay. Using 230 million B$ar{B}$ meson pairs collected with the BABAR detector, we have done a search for the rare decay B →?l+l- . The data was produced in e+e- collision at the Y(4S) resonance in the PEP-II collider between 1999 and 2004. Four exclusive B-meson decay modes have been reconstructed: B+ → ?+l+l- and B0 → ?0l+l- , where l+ l- is either an electron pair (e+e-) or a muon pair (?+?-). We find no evidence for a signal, and we obtain upper limits on the branching fractions ?. Assuming the isospin relation ?(B+ → ?+l+l- ) 2 x ?B+/?B0 ?(B0 → ?0l+l-), we obtain an upper limit at 90% confidence level on the lepton-flavor-averaged branching fraction of B → ?l+l- to be ?(B → ?e?) 9.2 x 10sup-8 /supat 90% C.L. We have also reconstructed two control modes Bsup+/sup→ ?sup+/supesup±/sup?sup±/sup and Bsup0/sup → ?sup0/supesup±/sup?sup±/sup and we also obtain an upper limit at 90% confidence level on the lepton-flavor-violating decay B → ?e? of ?(B → ?e?) 9.2 x 10
