Book The Application of the Hydraulic Analogy to Certain Atmospheric Flow Problems

Download or read book The Application of the Hydraulic Analogy to Certain Atmospheric Flow Problems written by Morris Tepper and published by . This book was released on 1952 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the summary, suggestions are made relative to the inclusive of the theory discussed in this paper in the day-to-day analysis of the weather. Indications are also given for the extension of the hydraulic analogy beyond the point covered in this paper.

Book Application of the Hydraulic Analogy to Internal Subsonic Flow

Download or read book Application of the Hydraulic Analogy to Internal Subsonic Flow written by Carl Hugh Warren and published by . This book was released on 1967 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An experimental study was made to determine the quantitative accuracy of the hydraulic analogy when applied to subsonic internal flows such as exist in pure fluid elements. The analogy is based upon the correspondence between density and depth (or pressure and depth squared) when the Mach number and Froude number are equal. Experiments were run in air and in water on geometrically similar nonsymmetrical flow dividers. A factor was used to correct for the difference in apparent specific heat ratios k. (Apparent k = 2 for hydraulic flow, k = 1.4 for air flow.) After this correction was made, the data correlated to within three percent. The Reynolds number for the water flow varied from about 1,500 to 4,000 and, for the air flow, from 17,000 to 100,000. The good correlation, even though some of the water data was taken in apparently laminar flow, indicated that inertial effects predominated over viscous effects. This was because the fluid was essentially at rest before it entered the flow divider. The geometry was characterized by sharp angles and relatively short flow lengths so that convective acceleration and separation zones dominated the flow and established patterns of velocity distribution did not have a chance to completely develop. Book Possibility of Long Range Precipitation Forecasting for the Hawaiian Islands

Download or read book Possibility of Long Range Precipitation Forecasting for the Hawaiian Islands written by Samuel B. Solot and published by . This book was released on 1948 with total page 666 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In order to establish a meteorological forecasting system, it is necessary to find a direct relationship between measurable physical states of the atmosphere and the end product, the weather element to be forecast. The long range forecaster is quite limited in his choice of physical parameters. In fact only the very large-scale dynamics of the atmosphere which can be expressed in terms of mean pressure patterns are amenable to long range analysis. Thus the problem reduces to finding a link between mean planetary pressure patterns and precipitation in the Hawaiian Islands

Book Instrumentation Measurements and Experiments in Fluids

Download or read book Instrumentation Measurements and Experiments in Fluids written by Ethirajan Rathakrishnan and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2016-12-19 with total page 613 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mechanical engineers involved with flow mechanics have long needed an authoritative reference that delves into all the essentials required for experimentation in fluids, a resource that can provide fundamental review, as well as the details necessary for experimentation on everything from household appliances to hi-tech rockets. Instrumentation, Measurements, and Experiments in Fluids meets this challenge, as its author is not only a highly respected pioneer in fluids, but also possesses twenty years experience teaching students of all levels. He clearly explains fundamental principles as well the tools and methods essential for advanced experimentation. Reflecting an awe for flow mechanics, along with a deep-rooted knowledge, the author has assembled a fourteen chapter volume that is destined to become a seminal work in the field. Providing ample detail for self study and the sort of elegant writing rarely found in so thorough a treatment, he provides insight into all the vital topics and issues associated with the devices and instruments used for fluid mechanics and gas dynamics experiments. Extremely organized, this work presents easy access to the principles behind the science and goes on to elucidate the current research and findings needed by those seeking to make further advancement. Unique and Thorough Coverage of Uncertainty Analysis The author provides valuable insight into the vital issues associated with the devices used in fluid mechanics and gas dynamics experiments. Leaving nothing to doubt, he tackles the most difficult concepts and ends the book with an introduction to uncertainty analysis. Structured and detailed enough for self study, this volume also provides the backbone for both undergraduate and graduate courses on fluids experimentation.

Book Proceedings of Retardation and Recovery Symposium

Download or read book Proceedings of Retardation and Recovery Symposium written by and published by . This book was released on 1963 with total page 488 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report contains the proceedings of the Retardation and Recovery Symposium sponsored by the Aeronautical Systems Division on 13 and 14 November 1962. The Introductory Session was opened with the Keynote Address which reviewed the use and applications of deployable aerodynamic decelerators throughout the past fifty (50) years and noted the areas in which additional work had to be accomplished. The four Technical Sessions deal with the latest significant developments in the retardation and recovery area. The Technical Sessions begin with presentations and discussions of investigations in the hypersonic and supersonic flight regimes followed by a technical analysis of transonic and supersonic flow phenomena. In addition, new aerodynamic decelerator designs and discussion of the wind tunnel tests pertaining to these designs, as well as overall reliability of recovery systems, are presented. The final Technical Session concludes with a discussion of the military, scientific, and general objectives for decelerators intended for future use.

Book The Dawn of Fluid Dynamics

Download or read book The Dawn of Fluid Dynamics written by Michael Eckert and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2007-06-27 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first publication to describe the evolution of fluid dynamics as a major field in modern science and engineering. It contains a description of the interaction between applied research and application, taking as its example the history of fluid mechanics in the 20th century. The focus lies on the work of Ludwig Prandtl, founder of the aerodynamic research center (AVA) in Göttingen, whose ideas and publications have influenced modern aerodynamics and fluid mechanics in many fields. While suitable for others, this book is intended for natural scientists and engineers as well as historians of science and technology.
