Download or read book Prioritization Procedure for Proposed Road rail Grade Separation Projects Along Specific Rail Corridors written by and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Prioritization Procedure for Proposed Road–Rail Grade Separation Projects Along Specific Rail Corridors is designed to assist state and local planners in making prioritization and investment decisions for road–rail at-grade crossing separations. The report provides a comprehensive means of comparing similar project alternatives within a specific rail corridor. Planning factors include economic, environmental, and community livability factors to support a robust decision process for making grade separation decisions. NCHRP Report 901 also includes railroad crossing assessment tool (RCAT), a multicriteria evaluation tool that considers safety, economic, environmental, and community livability factors in a set of linked Microsoft Excel spreadsheets. The report also includes a communications toolkit to help inform and convey to stakeholders and decision makers the relative objective merits of individual road–rail separation projects within corridors.

Book A Procedure for the Provision of Highway railroad Grade Separations

Download or read book A Procedure for the Provision of Highway railroad Grade Separations written by and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page 56 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The overall purpose of this study is to set forth a logical procedure for the engineering analyses of highway-railroad grade separation proposals. The suggested procedure is based upon analysis techniques tested through past application and as modified by resent guidelines and requirements. The resulting procedure, requested by the Trans Tech Group's clients, is sufficiently flexible to encompass a broad range of applications, but also will result in comparable decisions covering the many variables associated with such programs

Book Criteria Used by State Highway Agencies to Determine Warrants and Priorities for Warning Devices at Rail highway Crossings

Download or read book Criteria Used by State Highway Agencies to Determine Warrants and Priorities for Warning Devices at Rail highway Crossings written by John L. Sanford and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this study is to determine the warrants and/or criteria currently used by the individual states for applying various levels of rail-highway crossing warning devices, and what procedures each state uses to determine crossing improvement priorities. The objectives of this research study are: Obtain current information from each state about rail-highway crossing warrants and priorities for warning devices construction or improvements. Examine individual methods used to determine rail-highway grade crossing improvement warrants and priorities. Compare and analyze vehicle-train (VT) exposure indexes that the states use to develop their crossing warning standards and warrants. And, prepare a summary of the survey information and analysis for distribution to participating states so that each state can become aware of the national trends in warrants and priorities for rail-highway crossing warning devices.

Book Railroad Highway Grade Crossing Handbook

Download or read book Railroad Highway Grade Crossing Handbook written by United States. Federal Highway Administration. Office of Engineering. Railroads and Utilities Branch and published by . This book was released on 1978 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This handbook briefly describes how growth of railroads and highways resulted in a proliferation of grade crossings and then discusses the variety of methods developed to warn pedestrians and vehicles of approaching trains. It is aimed primarily at providing railroad, state and municipal personnel with information which can help in cooperative efforts to improve grade crossing safety and efficiency. The book describes conditions and requirements at crossing; facilitates understanding of the elements of crossing systems; provides a compendium of existing grade crossing technology; serves as a guideline to aid in implementing improvements to grade crossings; aids in understanding and applying new technology; and serves as a basic text for training programs.

Book Development of Railroad Highway Grade Crossing Consolidation Rating Formula

Download or read book Development of Railroad Highway Grade Crossing Consolidation Rating Formula written by Zachary Hans and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 80 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The goal of this project was to provide an objective methodology to support public agencies and railroads in making decisions related to consolidation of at-grade rail-highway crossings. The project team developed a weighted-index method and accompanying Microsoft Excel spreadsheet based tool to help evaluate and prioritize all public highway-rail grade crossings systematically from a possible consolidation impact perspective. Factors identified by stakeholders as critical were traffic volume, heavy-truck traffic volume, proximity to emergency medical services, proximity to schools, road system, and out-of-distance travel. Given the inherent differences between urban and rural locations, factors were considered, and weighted, differently, based on crossing location. Application of a weighted-index method allowed for all factors of interest to be included and for these factors to be ranked independently, as well as weighted according to stakeholder priorities, to create a single index. If priorities change, this approach also allows for factors and weights to be adjusted. The prioritization generated by this approach may be used to convey the need and opportunity for crossing consolidation to decision makers and stakeholders. It may also be used to quickly investigate the feasibility of a possible consolidation. Independently computed crossing risk and relative impact of consolidation may be integrated and compared to develop the most appropriate treatment strategies or alternatives for a highway-rail grade crossing. A crossing with limited- or low-consolidation impact but a high safety risk may be a prime candidate for consolidation. Similarly, a crossing with potentially high-consolidation impact as well as high risk may be an excellent candidate for crossing improvements or grade separation. The results of the highway-rail grade crossing prioritization represent a consistent and quantitative, yet preliminary, assessment. The results may serve as the foundation for more rigorous or detailed analysis and feasibility studies. Other pertinent site-specific factors, such as safety, maintenance costs, economic impacts, and location-specific access and characteristics should be considered.
