Book Reform and the Structure of the Indian Economy

Download or read book Reform and the Structure of the Indian Economy written by Madhusudan Datta and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2020-10-29 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book studies pitfalls in value added accounting of sectoral growth in real terms in the context of liberalisation of the Indian economy. Growth of sectoral gross value added can systematically deviate from that of final expenditure (and gross output), even maintaining the broad national accounting identity between the aggregates. For an investigation along these lines, input-output transactions tables provide invaluable information. The book discusses at length tricky questions of data handling and issues in interpretation of data. As the growth rate of the economy accelerated, economists observed that growth of value added came mostly from the service sector. Can the service sector maintain the momentum if manufacturing fails to get charged up in spite of all reforms aimed at this objective? The book studies this question in depth and addresses an audience interested in studying the Indian economy.

Book The Liberalization of Transportation Services in the EU and Turkey

Download or read book The Liberalization of Transportation Services in the EU and Turkey written by Sübidey Togan and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2016-06-17 with total page 313 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Transport costs have been, and still are, an important component of trade costs, which are one the major determinants of the volume of trade, and thus of gross domestic product (GDP) and GDP growth. Studies show that two of the main determinants of transport costs are regulatory frameworks in transport sectors and transport infrastructure. The productivity and competitiveness of goods and services firms depends largely on access to low-cost and high-quality transport services, and those services have a powerful influence on economic growth. Countries commit themselves to increasing the efficiency of transport services, which can largely be achieved through increased competition and hence through liberalization of transport sectors. Since barriers to trade in transport services are typically regulatory in nature, this book provides a thorough discussion of international, regional, and country specific rules and regulations in those sectors. Concentrating on the EU, and Turkey in particular, it considers rules and regulations in transport sectors. It shows that economic liberalization pursued unilaterally, multilaterally, or regionally has beneficial effects for Turkey, and that the benefits from such liberalization are substantial. Furthermore, the volume shows that transport infrastructure is an important determinant of exports, and hence GDP and GDP growth.

Book Third Sector Organisations and Organising

Download or read book Third Sector Organisations and Organising written by Wendy Earles and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2012-08 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the past few decades there has been considerable transformation of the organisational arrangements for public service provision and advocacy across most Western democracies, not least in Australia. Waves of ideologically driven reforms have reshaped organisations, ways of organising and systems, particularly those in the third sector. Each wave has produced specific synergies and contradictions that contribute to the need for further reshaping. As artefacts, local organisations, ways of organising and systems hold historic meaning that can guide practitioners as they seek to understand past change, transverse existing landscapes, question the utility and soundness of current meaning, and seek to create new landscapes that respond to different value-sets. The studies present here were undertaken by the authors over two decades in partnership with local practitioners to respond to their expressed need for new maps and compasses to understand and transverse the rapidly changing organisational landscapes in which they practice. The authors draw on practitioners' lived experiences of micro-change in particular sites to construct synthesised stories, develop organisational typologies, articulate principles and logics of organising, and construct paradigmatic maps.
