Book Further Developments in Turbulence Management

Download or read book Further Developments in Turbulence Management written by K. Krishna Prasad and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 206 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The thrust of modern research on turbulence in fluids is concerned with coherent structures and modelling. Riblets have been shown to reduce drag, and the papers presented in this volume tackle the main question of the mechanism responsible for this behaviour in turbulent flow. The contributions in this volume were presented at the Sixth Drag Reduction Meeting held at Eindhoven during November 1991. This volume will be a useful reference work for engineers, physicists and applied mathematicians interested in the topic of fluid turbulence.

Book Structure of Shear Flow Turbulence and Its Control

Download or read book Structure of Shear Flow Turbulence and Its Control written by Joseph H. Haritonides and published by . This book was released on 1987 with total page 13 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A nonlinear theory of turbulent coherent structures near walls has been developed based on the assumption that the eddies are flat, with large horizontal dimensions compared to their thickness. Turbulence in the outer part of the boundary-layer may be modelled as a linearly driven system with nonlinearities confined to the near wall region. A new model for near wall turbulence based on the concept of an instantaneous mixing length gives a mean velocity profile valid from the wall to the beginning of the log region. The effect of Large Eddy Break-up devices on the boundary layer was modelled as a wake deficit. The wake acts as a barrier to structures crossing the wake. Measurements of the skin friction behind LEBU's using a variant of the Stanton tube are in agreement with other techniques. Keywords: Turbulent boundary layer; Boundary layer control; LEBU(Large Eddy Break Up); Eddies(Fluid Mechanics), Structural properties; Boundary layer transition; Active walls; Flexible structures; Shear stresses; Drag reduction.

Book Self sustaining Mechanisms of Wall Turbulence

Download or read book Self sustaining Mechanisms of Wall Turbulence written by Ronald Lee Panton and published by Computational Mechanics. This book was released on 1997 with total page 448 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why is wall turbulence self-sustaining? In this book well-regarded researchers not only discuss what they know and believe, but also speculate on ideas that still require numerical or experimental testing and verification. An initial brief history of boundary layer structure research is followed by chapters on experimental information and specific topics within the subject. There are then sections on computational aspects.

Book Transport and Coherent Structures in Wall Turbulence

Download or read book Transport and Coherent Structures in Wall Turbulence written by Sedat Tardu and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2014-10-06 with total page 500 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wall bounded turbulent flows are of major importance in industrial and environmental fluid mechanics. The structure of the wall turbulence is intrinsically related to the coherent structures that play a fundamental role in the transport process. The comprehension of their regeneration mechanism is indispensable for the development of efficient strategies in terms of drag control and near wall turbulence management. This book provides an up-to-date overview on the progress made in this specific area in recent years.

Book Shock Wave Boundary Layer Interactions

Download or read book Shock Wave Boundary Layer Interactions written by Holger Babinsky and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2011-09-12 with total page 481 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Shock wave-boundary-layer interaction (SBLI) is a fundamental phenomenon in gas dynamics that is observed in many practical situations, ranging from transonic aircraft wings to hypersonic vehicles and engines. SBLIs have the potential to pose serious problems in a flowfield; hence they often prove to be a critical - or even design limiting - issue for many aerospace applications. This is the first book devoted solely to a comprehensive, state-of-the-art explanation of this phenomenon. It includes a description of the basic fluid mechanics of SBLIs plus contributions from leading international experts who share their insight into their physics and the impact they have in practical flow situations. This book is for practitioners and graduate students in aerodynamics who wish to familiarize themselves with all aspects of SBLI flows. It is a valuable resource for specialists because it compiles experimental, computational and theoretical knowledge in one place.
