Book Fundamental Structural Analysis

Download or read book Fundamental Structural Analysis written by W. SPENCER and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-09 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Significant changes have occurred in the approach to structural analysis over the last twenty years. These changes have been brought about by a more general understanding of the nature of the problem and the develop ment of the digital computer. Almost all s~ructural engineering offices throughout the world would now have access to some form of digital computer, ranging from hand-held programmable calculators through to the largest machines available. Powerful microcomputers are also widely available and many engineers and students have personal computers as a general aid to their work. Problems in structural analysis have now been formulated in such a way that the solution is available through the use of the computer, largely by what is known as matrix methods of structural analysis. It is interesting to note that such methods do not put forward new theories in structural analysis, rather they are a restatement of classical theory in a manner that can be directly related to the computer. This book begins with the premise that most structural analysis will be done on a computer. This is not to say that a fundamental understanding of structural behaviour is not presented or that only computer-based tech niques are given. Indeed, the reverse is true. Understanding structural behaviour is an underlying theme and many solution techniques suitable for hand computation, such as moment distribution, are retained. The most widely used method of computer-based structural analysis is the matrix stiffness method.

Book Structural and Stress Analysis

Download or read book Structural and Stress Analysis written by T.H.G. Megson and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2005-02-17 with total page 739 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Structural analysis is the corner stone of civil engineering and all students must obtain a thorough understanding of the techniques available to analyse and predict stress in any structure. The new edition of this popular textbook provides the student with a comprehensive introduction to all types of structural and stress analysis, starting from an explanation of the basic principles of statics, normal and shear force and bending moments and torsion. Building on the success of the first edition, new material on structural dynamics and finite element method has been included.Virtually no prior knowledge of structures is assumed and students requiring an accessible and comprehensive insight into stress analysis will find no better book available. - Provides a comprehensive overview of the subject providing an invaluable resource to undergraduate civil engineers and others new to the subject - Includes numerous worked examples and problems to aide in the learning process and develop knowledge and skills - Ideal for classroom and training course usage providing relevant pedagogy

Book Structural Analysis

Download or read book Structural Analysis written by Bryant G. Nielson and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2017-02-28 with total page 566 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When teaching structural analysis, some contend that students need broad exposure to many of the classical techniques of analysis, while others argue that learners benefit more from the computer-based analysis experiences that involve parametric studies. Structural Analysis, Understanding Behavior strikes a balance between these viewpoints. Students may no longer need to know every classical technique but they still need a fundamental knowledge of the concepts which come from studying a subset of classical techniques. This foundation is then strengthened by the use of structural analysis software in activities designed to promite self-discovery of structural concepts and behaviors. This text was developed with this goal in mind.

Book Examples in Structural Analysis Second Edition

Download or read book Examples in Structural Analysis Second Edition written by William M.C. McKenzie and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2013-12-20 with total page 837 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This second edition of Examples in Structural Analysis uses a step-by-step approach and provides an extensive collection of fully worked and graded examples for a wide variety of structural analysis problems. It presents detailed information on the methods of solutions to problems and the results obtained. Also given within the text is a summary of each of the principal analysis techniques inherent in the design process and where appropriate, an explanation of the mathematical models used. The text emphasises that software should only be used if designers have the appropriate knowledge and understanding of the mathematical modelling, assumptions and limitations inherent in the programs they use. It establishes the use of hand-methods for obtaining approximate solutions during preliminary design and an independent check on the answers obtained from computer analyses. What’s New in the Second Edition: New chapters cover the development and use of influence lines for determinate and indeterminate beams, as well as the use of approximate analyses for indeterminate pin-jointed and rigid-jointed plane-frames. This edition includes a rewrite of the chapter on buckling instability, expands on beams and on the use of the unit load method applied to singly redundant frames. The x-y-z co-ordinate system and symbols have been modified to reflect the conventions adopted in the structural Eurocodes. William M. C. McKenzie is also the author of six design textbooks relating to the British Standards and the Eurocodes for structural design and one structural analysis textbook. As a member of the Institute of Physics, he is both a chartered engineer and a chartered physicist and has been involved in consultancy, research and teaching for more than 35 years.

Book Fundamentals of Structural Analysis

Download or read book Fundamentals of Structural Analysis written by Kenneth Leet and published by McGraw-Hill Companies. This book was released on 2002 with total page 734 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book introduces engineering and architectural students to the basic techniques for analysing most common structural elements, including beams, trusses, frames, cables and arches. The text covers the classical methods of analysis for determinate and indeterminate structures, and provides an introduction to matrix formulation, the basis of computer analysis. Extensive and fully worked out examples are used to illustrate all principles and techniques, and an increased number of homework problems gives the student in-depth understanding of structural behaviour. The discussion on approximate analysis will enable students to verify the accuracy of a computer analysis, as well as to estimate the preliminary design forces required to size individual components of multimember structures during the early design phase, when the tentative configuration and proportions of members are established.
