Book Strategic Evaluation of Different Topical Protection Systems for Bridge Decks and the Associated Life cycle Cost Analysis

Download or read book Strategic Evaluation of Different Topical Protection Systems for Bridge Decks and the Associated Life cycle Cost Analysis written by Yu-chang Liang and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bridge decks deteriorate faster and require more maintenance and repair than any other structural components on highway bridges. Topical protection systems act as barriers to protect bridge decks from corrosion damage by preventing water, oxygen, and chloride ions from reaching the reinforcement. This study evaluated topical protection systems commonly used on highway bridge decks in Colorado, including low-permeability concrete overlays and waterproof membranes with asphalt overlays.

Book Life cycle Cost Analysis for Protection and Rehabilitation of Concrete Bridges Relative to Reinforcement Corrosion

Download or read book Life cycle Cost Analysis for Protection and Rehabilitation of Concrete Bridges Relative to Reinforcement Corrosion written by Ronald L. Purvis and published by Strategic Highway Research Program (Shrp). This book was released on 1994 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A systematic methodology is presented for highway agencies to use at the project level to determine the most cost-effective treatment, and its timing, for specific concrete bridge components that are deteriorating or are subject to deterioration. The methodology is set forth in the form of both a handbook and a computer program. The methodology in its present form applies only when the predominant concrete deterioration is associated with chloride-induced corrosion of the reinforcing steel. The methodology is designed to be flexible and can be tailored to suit the needs of individual highway agencies.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From 1976-1981 the Minnesota Department of Transportation (Mn/DOT) conducted a research study to evaluate several new types of bridge deck protective systems in an effort to reduce the extent of reinforcing steel corrosion. These systems included membranes with bituminous overlays, modified concrete overlays, and coated rebars. When the study concluded, it was felt that a long term study was needed to provide a better indication of service life. Two decks from each system type which appeared promising were selected for extended testing. This extended study continued the evaluation program through 1990
