Book Stewart County Tennessee Marriage Records 1881 1910

Download or read book Stewart County Tennessee Marriage Records 1881 1910 written by Jim Long and published by . This book was released on 2020-05-07 with total page 350 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This publication contains an abstract of 5,064 marriage records of Stewart County, Tennessee covering the years 1881 through 1910. The original Marriage Books are at the Stewart County Court House, labeled as volumes 1B, 1892, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7. The books were microfilmed by the Tennessee State Library and Archives as Stewart County Microfilm Rolls #29, #30, #31 and #32.The 1881-1883 marriage records were the most informative for genealogists in the history of the county, including the following data for each couple: -Names, ages, birthplaces and residences of the bride and groom-Date the marriage license was issued-Date the marriage was solemnized-Location within the county where the marriage took place-Occupation of the groom-Name of the marriage celebrant (person who solemnized the marriage)-Names of the witnesses to the marriageStewart County marriage records have never included the names of the parents of the bride and groom - a hopeful yet common misconception. A few of the marriage entries from the 1893-1910 period, however, include a permission slip signed by one or both of the bride's parents, since permission was required when the bride was under 16 years of age.The 1893-1910 records also include the name of the groom's bondsman on the marriage bond. Due to the high dollar value on Tennessee marriage bonds - $1,250.00 - the bondsman was often a close friend, neighbor or kinsman of the groom, which can be a helpful genealogical clue.

Book Stewart County Tennessee County Court Minutes 1819 1828

Download or read book Stewart County Tennessee County Court Minutes 1819 1828 written by Jim Long and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2018-02-25 with total page 444 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This 440-page publication is a word-for-word transcription of the fifth, sixth and seventh Minute Books of the Stewart County, Tennessee County Court (Court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions), covering the court terms from November 1819 through August 1828. There is a records loss during this period, from February 1825 through August 1828. The missing minutes have been reconstructed by painstaking research at the Stewart County Archives, using Loose Records and Docket Books to reconstruct the activity of the Court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions during the period of record loss. Special items in the 1819-1828 series of minutes include: - The depositions given at the February 1820 term regarding a land dispute at the mouth of Wolf River, where Memphis now stands. (Until 1818, Stewart County had encompassed all of west Tennessee, and Shelby County, though erected in 1819, didn't hold its first court until May 1820). - Minutes relating to estate settlements, wills and bonds for the 1819-1824 period, due to almost complete record loss in the Settlements and Bonds book for this period, known as Book 3. - Road orders for the early settlements in West Tennessee, which had been legally opened up for settlement by the Jackson Purchase of 1818.

Book Stewart County Tennessee County Court Minutes 1813 1819

Download or read book Stewart County Tennessee County Court Minutes 1813 1819 written by Jim Long and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2018-02-24 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This 273-page publication is a word-for-word transcription of the third and fourth Minute Books of the Stewart County, Tennessee County Court (Court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions), covering the years 1813-1819. Only portions of these minute books have been microfilmed. The minutes have previously been available in print form only via the 1930's WPA transcription available only at the Tennessee State Library and Archives. This publication is a fresh transcription of the original records and not simply a re-issue of the WPA transcription, and also includes minutes for missing court sessions that can be reconstructed from available Loose Records of the Circuit Court and Register of Deeds offices. County Court Minutes include, but are not limited to: - Summaries of legal cases, both civil and criminal - Road crew orders (an excellent source for pinpointing where someone lived in the county) - Jury lists - Recording of livestock marks (a predecessor to branding) - Probate of deeds (the actual deeds being recorded separately in the Deed books) - Probate of wills (the actual wills being recorded separately in the Settlements and Bonds books) - Delinquent tax lists - Elections/appointments of county officials Therefore, County Court Minutes are an excellent source for proving early residency in the county.
