Download or read book Environment Behavior Studies for Healthcare Design written by Suining Ding and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2022-11-30 with total page 428 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Environment-Behavior Studies for Healthcare Design explains how environment-behavior (EB) studies can contribute to healthcare design research and explores how evidence-based theories can be applied and integrated into the healthcare design practice. Drawing on EB theories and the latest research in environment-behavior studies, this book shows how the healthcare environment can positively impact patients' and caregivers' well-being and healthcare organization's efficiency by modifying environmental attributes, such as space configuration, color, lighting, signage, acoustics, and artwork. It addresses a range of healthcare facilities including children's hospitals, long-term care, acute care and outpatient care facilities, and uses a range of evidence-based design research methods, such as interviews, focus groups, observations, surveys and space syntax. The author also explains how research evidence and evidence-based design can be integrated into healthcare design more cohesively in a redefined design process. This book provides a solid conceptual structure that informs a clear map for understanding the EB theories and their applications in healthcare design. This research guide for healthcare design helps students, academics, designers and architects reconsider how to create environments that support patients’ healing and well-being whilst considering efficiency and safety.

Download or read book Geological Hazards in the UK written by D.P. Giles and published by Geological Society of London. This book was released on 2020-06-09 with total page 499 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The UK is perhaps unique globally in that it presents the full spectrum of geological time, stratigraphy and associated lithologies within its boundaries. With this wide range of geological assemblages comes a wide range of geological hazards, whether they be geophysical (earthquakes, effects of volcanic eruptions, tsunami, landslides), geotechnical (collapsible, compressible, liquefiable, shearing, swelling and shrinking soils), geochemical (dissolution, radon and methane gas hazards) or georesource related (coal, chalk and other mineral extraction). An awareness of these hazards and the risks that they pose is a key requirement of the engineering geologist. The Geological Society considered that a Working Party Report would help to put the study and assessment of geohazards into the wider social context, helping the engineering geologist to better communicate the issues concerning geohazards in the UK to the client and the public. This volume sets out to define and explain these geohazards, to detail their detection, monitoring and management and to provide a basis for further research and understanding.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Alpha Strategies is a framework of eight strategies common to all for-profit, not-for-profit, and public sector organizations, regardless of their size. The eight strategies are business definition, financial management, growth, marketing, organization management, research & development / technology, risk, and service delivery / manufacturing / production. For not-for-profits and public sector organizations, the business definition strategy is known as the mandate while marketing is typically called communications. The service delivery strategy is also known as production or as manufacturing, depending on the nature of an organizations business. The framework is dynamic in that there is a configuration of The Alpha Strategies unique to every organization. A characteristic of the framework is that one of the eight strategies leads the remaining seven and sets the culture for the organization. Understanding The Alpha Strategies is the key to understanding strategy, risk, and values in any organization. Visit www.thealphastrategies.com for more

Download or read book Eco Engineered Bioreactors written by James Higgins and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-11-22 with total page 382 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a comprehensive understanding of a highly innovative method of natural wastewater treatment using advanced in-groundbioreactors called Eco-Engineered Bioreactors (EEBs), and traces their evolution from the earliest aerated gravel bed versions once known as Engineered Wetlands (EWs) and now known as BREW Bioreactors (BBRs) all the way to today’s wide slate of aerobic and anaerobic varieties. Treatment using EEBs involves passing wastewaters through excavated basins in which they contact fixed films of microbial consortia on permeable substrate media. Written from the perspective of ecological engineers designing EEBs, this guide covers updated information on the state-of-the-art for EEBs, covering their morphologies, testing methods, designs, operations, and microbiology.

Download or read book Hydrogen Energy California Project Sections 4 3 4 8 written by California Energy Commission and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 706 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This project is for an integrated gasification combined cycle (IGCC) power generating facility called Hydrogen Energy California (HECA) in Kern County, California.... The project, as proposed, would gasify blends of petroleum coke (25 %) and coal (75%) to produce hydrogen to fuel a combustion turbine operating in combined cycle mode. The gasification component would produce 180 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) of hydrogen to feed a 400 megawatt (MW) gross, 288 MW net combined cycle plant providing California with dispatchable baseload power to the grid. The gasification component would also capture approximately 130 MMSCFD of carbon dioxide (or approximately 90 percent at steady-state operation) which would be transported and used for enhanced oil recovery and sequestration (storage) in the Elk Hills Oil Field Unit. The HECA project would also produce approximately 1 million tons of fertilizer for domestic use" --California Energy Commission web site, Docket 08-AFC-8A.
