Book Give Me Everything You Have

Download or read book Give Me Everything You Have written by James Lasdun and published by Farrar, Straus and Giroux. This book was released on 2013-02-12 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A true story of obsessive love turning to obsessive hate in the crucible of the digital age. Give Me Everything You Have chronicles author James Lasdun's strange and harrowing ordeal at the hands of a former student, a self-styled "verbal terrorist," who began trying, in her words, to "ruin him." Hate mail, online postings, and public accusations of plagiarism and sexual misconduct were her weapons of choice and, as with more conventional terrorist weapons, proved remarkably difficult to combat. James Lasdun's account, while terrifying, is told with compassion and humor, and brilliantly succeeds in turning a highly personal story into a profound meditation on subjects as varied as madness, race, Middle East politics, and the meaning of honor and reputation in the Internet age.

Book Stalking Is Not Love

Download or read book Stalking Is Not Love written by MARIE JONES and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2014-06-26 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Stalking is not love is my account of what my family and I have gone through since I left my ex-husband. It details 3 years of us being stalked, from high speed chase to emails. I refuse to live a life of fear, a life that is non-functional. I will not feel guilty about not loving someone. A person has the right to end a relationship if they are not happy, the right not be harassed or stalked. Stalking is not love, it is a crime. It also is one of the hardest crimes to be convicted of. I know because I am currently experiencing this very situation. I receive emails, phone calls and have had the passwords on personal accounts changed because the stalker knows my SSN. The stalker parks his car down the street from my home and sits for hours. When he gets fed up he rings my doorbell angrily and leaves. These are just a few of the things I go through daily. I know there are others who are going through the same thing that I am currently experiencing. Some who are hurt or has lost their lives. Maybe our stories can come together and form a band of women, men, boys, girls, people or simply the stalked and be heard. We need help. Stalking is not love. I have a father that has loved me since birth. My father protected me and kept me safe. I have five brothers that love me dearly. I know what it is like to be truly loved by a man. I have a heavenly father tha tloves me unconditionally and protects me. God is my source and refuge. A person would not hurt what they love.

Book Stalking Sly Stallone and Other Unfortunate Choices

Download or read book Stalking Sly Stallone and Other Unfortunate Choices written by Virginia Stirling Chapel and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2013-04-24 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A tragicomic one-woman show on the South, dating, marriage, and therapy has been expanded in Chapel's memoir, Stalking Sly Stallone and Other Unfortunate Choices. Reviews of the show: "Smart, surprising writing..." - BACKSTAGE "The way she bares her life's pain in a completely unsympathetic and unsentimental way, with her dead pan, self-mocking delivery and her wonderfully dry wit is terrific." - LA THEATRE REVIEW She attempts to save audience members thousands of dollars and years of grief by explaining what they won't learn in therapy about the pitfalls of dating and marriage. A true daughter of the South...she examines the various forms of insanity underlying different methods of counseling. While Stirling's material is quite hilarious, there is a bitter tinge of disillusionment...in her delivery which often makes her advice even funnier." - THE HUFFINGTON POST "Stirling is a street brawler on stage, a natural." - DAVID FORD, THEATER DIRECTOR After her debut in the South in the early 1970s, Stirling lands a clandestine affair with the president of a celibate ashram, avoids sex at the "Center for the Lower Self," pursues her fantasy crush on Sylvester Stallone, gets a job working with him in New York, and levitates in the cornfields of Iowa, all while religiously applying every spiritual principal she learns to her own situation. She consistently uses various forms of eccentric self-help and magical thinking in pursuit of men, frequently with disastrous results. In her mid-thirties she finally joins a group of love and sex addicts in California and defiantly refuses to follow suggestions. After trying almost everything on the smorgasbord of self-help, she is increasingly suicidal. Through trial and error, she stumbles on the professional help she needs and starts to build the foundation she does not know is missing. Over time she becomes more whole, piece by piece. Stirling Chapel hopes to use her twenty years of struggle around relationship and two decades of long-term recovery to inspire and help others. Many of the lessons she learned have very broad application. And as her therapist has said, "Nothing is funnier than hearing Stirling talk about her deepest pain."

Book Dear Professor

Download or read book Dear Professor written by Donna Freitas and published by Scribd, Inc.. This book was released on 2020-04-22 with total page 34 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For more than two years, Donna Freitas’s graduate school mentor, a priest and celebrated scholar, stalked her, forever changing her life. In her 2019 account Consent: A Memoir of Unwanted Attention, she re-created, in novelistic detail, the story of being traumatized by her professor’s obsession with her, of how he used his power to try to rob her of her own. Freitas’s story has been hailed as “groundbreaking” (Kirkus) and “an important testament for the #MeToo era” (Publishers Weekly), “illuminat[ing] our ideas about harassment and harm” (Rebecca Traister). But readers’ responses to its publication, and the author’s experience of seeing the public’s response, impressed upon her that there was more to be said: not from the perspective of the naive young woman she was in graduate school, but in the fully empowered voice of the woman—the writer, teacher, and Title IX researcher and lecturer—she has since become. Pulling no punches, she speaks out here, in this searing Scribd Original, in a direct address—a letter—to her stalker. Dear Professor confronts and galvanizes. It is a public accusation and a personal confession. Above all, it is a guide to how to express and claim one’s anger, to use it to good and healthy effect to explode the shame that victims of stalking often feel and the silence they are often forced into. It acknowledges the grief of what was lost through years of trauma—the life that the author’s younger self had planned and invested in, including a very different kind of academic career. And it embraces what’s been gained: empathy, resiliency, adaptability, clarity, and more—all highly useful ingredients, it turns out, in becoming an expert on matters of consent and in successfully pursuing a writer’s life. It asks if either forgiveness or outing her stalker by name (something she’s assiduously avoided in print and at her readings and lectures) is necessary to her healing. Is what her former mentor did to her or may have done to others in any way her responsibility? How much can be expected of victims of such pernicious harassment? And how can Freitas continue to protect herself and her right to choose how she overcomes? At once intimate and incendiary, Dear Professor is an act of liberation and self-love and an invitation to others who’ve been victimized to accept their pain and outrage, assign fault where fault is squarely due, take pride in what must be a uniquely personal journey, and say no, and no again, to censorship, secrecy, and stigma.

Book In His Sights

Download or read book In His Sights written by Kate Brennan and published by Harper Perennial. This book was released on 2009-07-28 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What if the man you'd loved for years transformed into a ruthless and relentless tormentor, stealing your freedom, threatening your sanity and your safety? This is not a fictional scenario. It is Kate Brennan's life. A well-respected writer and scholar, Kate was wary of getting involved when she met Paul, a wealthy, charismatic businessman with a great deal of free time, but his charm and determination eventually won her over. Once they moved in together, however, Kate discovered the sordid secrets lurking beneath the Mr. Right facade: the serial infidelities, the unbalanced psyche. When she ended their relationship, Paul dedicated himself to stalking her—using his limitless resources to track her movements, interfering with her work, arranging for people to break into her home—in a campaign of cruel harassment that has been Kate's unending nightmare for more than a decade . . . and which continues to this day. A shocking and visceral memoir that lays bare the twisted mind of a stalker, In His Sights is a gripping tale of one woman's descent into the dark side of love and her ongoing struggle to free herself.
