Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As the American election administration landscape changes as a result of major court cases, national and state legislation, changes in professionalism, and the evolution of equipment and security, so must the work of on-the-ground practitioners change. This Open Access title presents a series of case studies designed to highlight practical responses to these changes from the national, state, and local levels. This book is designed to be a companion piece to The Future of Election Administration, which surveys these critical dimensions of elections from the perspectives of the most forward-thinking practitioner, policy, advocacy, and research experts and leaders in these areas today. Drawing upon principles of professionalism and the practical work that is required to administer elections as part of the complex systems, this book lifts up the voices and experiences of practitioners from around the country to describe, analyze, and anticipate the key areas of election administration systems on which students, researchers, advocates, policy makers, and practitioners should focus. Together, these books add to the emerging body of literature that is part of the election sciences community with an emphasis on the practical aspects of administration.

This book was released on 2004-06-15 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An effective state is essential to achieving socio-economic and sustainable development. With the advent of globalization, there are growing pressures on governments and organizations around the world to be more responsive to the demands of internal and external stakeholders for good governance, accountability and transparency, greater development effectiveness, and delivery of tangible results. Governments, parliaments, citizens, the private sector, NGOs, civil society, international organizations and donors are among the stakeholders interested in better performance. As demands for greater accountability and real results have increased, there is an attendant need for enhanced results-based monitoring and evaluation of policies, programs, and projects. This Handbook provides a comprehensive ten-step model that will help guide development practitioners through the process of designing and building a results-based monitoring and evaluation system. These steps begin with a OC Readiness AssessmentOCO and take the practitioner through the design, management, and importantly, the sustainability of such systems. The Handbook describes each step in detail, the tasks needed to complete each one, and the tools available to help along the way."

Book Issues in Ghana s Electoral Politics

Download or read book Issues in Ghana s Electoral Politics written by Ninsin, Kwame A. and published by CODESRIA. This book was released on 2017-05-05 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ghana attained independence in 1957. From 1992, when a new constitution came into force and established a new – democratic – framework for governing the country, elections have been organized every four years to choose the governing elites. The essays in this volume are about those elections because elections give meaning to the role of citizens in democratic governance. The chapters depart from the study of formal structures by which the electorate choose their representatives. They evaluate the institutional forms that representation take in the Ghanaian context, and study elections outside the specific institutional forms that according to democratic theory are necessary for arriving at the nature of the relationships that are formed between the voters and their representatives and the nature and quality of their contribution to the democratic process.

Book The Power of the Vote

Download or read book The Power of the Vote written by Martin Ott and published by Fourth Dimension Publishing Company. This book was released on 2004 with total page 360 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 2004 elections in Malawi were pivotal in the democratisation process of a country, which is undergoing enormous changes in its political landscape. The elections carried a message of democratic hope, however were not free of concern for the future of a stable democracy in the country: the 2004 elections were characterised by voter apathy, registering fewer voters than in 1999. The papers in this book comprise the proceedings of a non-partisan, academic conference, which took place in Malawi after the elections, in July 2004. They consider questions such as: the extent to which the people of the country were fully cognisant of their rights, responsibilities, and appreciated the power of the vote; the reasons for the reduced turnout, and whether or not this of itself represented a form of protest; and whether the elections will provide a stable and predictable foundation for the future. The papers further provide a comprehensive overview of the main aspects of the elections: the electoral process; the political parties; the participation of civil society and faith communities; the roles of the judiciary, media and donors; the management of conflicts; and perspectives of domestic and international observers. Finally, the editors outline a series of recommendations to local and international stakeholders in Malawi's democracy, and provide valuable statistical data.
