Book St Joseph Catholic Church and School

Download or read book St Joseph Catholic Church and School written by Kieu Chi Nguyen and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 73 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: St. Joseph Catholic Church has had a long history in Athens, Georgia. The church started out in a small wooden building in 1881, with masses possible only once a month. The community has grown and expanded from inhabiting a tiny lot to a property close to 50 acres. "The parish of St. Joseph is unique in its involvement and activity in the many areas of parish and community life. As of spring 2012 we presently have 1100 registered, active families in the parish. Under the guidance of Fr. David McGuiness in 2005, fund raising was started to procure property and build a new church/school campus. The new school and multi-purpose building opened in 2012 and a church is planned for the new campus on Epps Bridge Parkway in Clarke County" (St. Joseph). St. Joseph approached the College of Environment + Design at the University of Georgia to help them design an educational and beautiful new property. The students were fifth year seniors, all with different wasy to achieve these goals. This book shows the processes of one of the designs from start to finish. A design has to undergo many steps. To begin, after visiting the site, the property was analyzed concerning hydrology, slope and vegetation. Surveys were collected from the faculty at St. Joseph Catholic School. The surveys included a list of wishes and dreams, which were useful in designing the site and creating a master plan. Smaller spaces were shown in detail following the master plan. Technical drawings are provided, from construction plans to a planting palette. The site is designed for students, adults, volunteers, religious followers, and anyone else who might be involved with St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Book The Catholic Thing

Download or read book The Catholic Thing written by Robert Royal and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Catholic "thing" - the concrete historical reality of Catholicism as a presence in human history - is the richest cultural tradition in the world. It values both faith and reason, and therefore has a great deal to say about politics and economics, war and peace, manners and morals, children and families, careers and vocations, and many other perennial and contemporary questions. In addition, it has inspired some of the greatest art, music, and architecture, while offering unparalleled human solidarity to tens of millions through hospitals, soup kitchens, schools, universities, and relief services. This volume brings together some of the very best commentary on a wide range of recent events and controversies by some of the very best Catholic writers in the English language: Ralph McInerny, Michael Novak, Fr. James V. Schall, Hadley Arkes, Robert Royal, Anthony Esolen, Brad Miner, George Marlin, David Warren, Austin Ruse, Francis Beckwith, and many others. Their contributions cover large Catholic subjects such as philosophy and theology, liturgy and Church dogma, postmodern culture, the Church and modern politics, literature, and music. But they also look into specific contemporary problems such as religious liberty, the role of Catholic officials in public life, growing moral hazards in bio-medical advances, and such like. The Catholic Thing is a virtual encyclopedia of Catholic thought about modern life.

Book The Joy of the Gospel

Book excerpt: The perfect gift! A specially priced, beautifully designed hardcover edition of The Joy of the Gospel with a foreword by Robert Barron and an afterword by James Martin, SJ. “The joy of the gospel fills the hearts and lives of all who encounter Jesus… In this Exhortation I wish to encourage the Christian faithful to embark upon a new chapter of evangelization marked by this joy, while pointing out new paths for the Church’s journey in years to come.” – Pope Francis This special edition of Pope Francis's popular message of hope explores themes that are important for believers in the 21st century. Examining the many obstacles to faith and what can be done to overcome those hurdles, he emphasizes the importance of service to God and all his creation. Advocating for “the homeless, the addicted, refugees, indigenous peoples, the elderly who are increasingly isolated and abandoned,” the Holy Father shows us how to respond to poverty and current economic challenges that affect us locally and globally. Ultimately, Pope Francis demonstrates how to develop a more personal relationship with Jesus Christ, “to recognize the traces of God’s Spirit in events great and small.” Profound in its insight, yet warm and accessible in its tone, The Joy of the Gospel is a call to action to live a life motivated by divine love and, in turn, to experience heaven on earth. Includes a foreword by Robert Barron, author of Catholicism: A Journey to the Heart of the Faith and James Martin, SJ, author of Jesus: A Pilgrimage

The purpose of this letter, Pope Francis writes, “is to increase our love for this great saint, to encourage us to implore his intercession and to imitate his virtues and his zeal.” Saint Joseph is a beloved father; a tender, loving father; an obedient father; an accepting father; a creatively courageous father; a working father; and a father in the shadows. As protector, advocate, and guardian of the Holy Family, Saint Joseph has always been venerated as a father to all Christians. With this letter, promulgated on the 150th anniversary of the declaration of Saint Joseph as Patron of the Universal Church, Pope Francis proclaimed a Year of Saint Joseph from December 8, 2020, to December 8, 2021.
