Book excerpt: Since the time of Lagrange and Euler, it has been well known that an understanding of algebraic curves can illuminate the picture of rigid bodies provided by classical mechanics. A modern view of the role played by algebraic geometry has been established iby many mathematicians. This book presents some of these techniques, which fall within the orbit of finite dimensional integrable systems. The main body of the text presents a rich assortment of methods and ideas from algebraic geometry prompted by classical mechanics, whilst in appendices the general, abstract theory is described. The methods are given a topological application to the study of Liouville tori and their bifurcations. The book is based on courses for graduate students given by the author at Strasbourg University but the wealth of original ideas will make it also appeal to researchers.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Spinning Tops are disembodied beings who coexist with us on Earth in an invisible, parallel dimension. They send us messages of love and peace, and they help relieve our anxieties. They support us on our way to perfect harmony and, ultimately, to God. Lucie is the medium who delivers these loving messages. She withholds nothing her mind is a blank page. The Spinning Tops shine through her like crystal, and she delivers their messages faithfully. In these loving messages, the Spinning Tops explain how adversity and misfortune are repercussions of accumulated human negativity that counteracts Gods plan. God is perfect order, harmonious unity. Unknowingly, our minds wield forces that are disturbing the vibratory zones around the Earth, putting our planet out of balance, causing more and more natural disasters. For all of us, saving the planet means first finding the courage to walk the path of wisdom, joy, happiness, and love of others. This is the eleventh commandment, and it is our responsibility to the future. By not following the personal path you were given before birth, you disturb the terrestrial forces. By following your very own preprogrammed destiny, you are helping the Earth to come back into alignment.

Book Spinning Tops Gumdrops

    Book Details:
  • Author : Edwin Barnard
  • Publisher : National Library of Australia
  • Release : 2018-03-01
  • ISBN : 0642279187
  • Pages : 196 pages

Download or read book Spinning Tops Gumdrops written by Edwin Barnard and published by National Library of Australia. This book was released on 2018-03-01 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Spinning Tops and Gumdrops takes us back to childhood in colonial Australia. The delight of children at play is universal, but the pleasure these children experience as depicted through the book's photographs is through their 'imagination, skill and daring' rather than through possessions. Children play quoits and jacks, hide and seek, cricket with a kerosene tin for a wicket, dress ups and charades. They climb trees, run races, and build rafts to sail on the local waterhole. The photographs show children happily absorbed in the play of their own making. Being a child in colonial Australia was also tough. It was a time when school yard disagreements were sorted out with fists and 'the loss of a little claret'. A time when children could view public hangings and premature death was frequent, especially taking the very young and vulnerable though dysentery, whooping cough or diphtheria. The lasting impression left by the contemporary accounts, photographs, etchings and paintings of colonial children in Spinning Tops and Gumdrops is their possession of qualities of resilience, self-sufficiency and acceptance of their lot. Perhaps it was through lack of choice, or of knowing no other. Nevertheless, these were qualities that put them in good stead for the challenges many faced in their adulthood. Interestingly, these are qualities on which contemporary society still places a high value, but which today seem a little more elusive.
