Book Spectral Line Shapes in Astrophysics and Related Topics

Download or read book Spectral Line Shapes in Astrophysics and Related Topics written by Milan S. Dimitrijević and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2020-02-18 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Spectral lines, widths, and shapes are powerful tools for emitting/absorbing gas diagnostics in different astrophysical objects (from the solar system to the most distant objects in the universe—quasars). On the other hand, experimental and theoretical investigations of laboratory plasma have been applied in spectroscopic astrophysical research, especially in research on atomic data needed for line shape calculations. Data on spectral lines and their profiles are also important for diagnostics, analysis, and the modelling of fusion plasma, laser-produced plasma, laser design and development, and various plasmas in industry and technology, like light sources based on plasmas or the welding and piercing of metals by laser-produced plasma. The papers from this book can be divided into four groups: 1. stark broadening data for astrophysical and laboratory plasma investigations; 2. applications of spectral lines for astrophysical and laboratory plasma research; 3. spectral line phenomena in extragalactic objects, and 4. laboratory astrophysics results for spectra investigation. The reviews and research papers, representing new research on the topics presented in this book, are of interest for specialists and PhD students. We hope that the present book will be useful and interesting for scientists interested in the investigation of spectral line shapes and will contribute to the education of young researchers and PhD students.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Annotation Includes full texts of about a dozen of the 25 invited papers and two-page abstracts of all 80 contributed papers. The emphasis is on the physical processes associated with the formation of spectral lines as observed in absorption and scattering of radiation by plasmas and neutral gases, though some papers consider related aspects. The sections cover special and general results of low-density plasmas, high to ultrahigh density plasmas, collision induced spectra, selective reflection and other line shapes, line mixing and far wing line shapes, broadening and shifting in neutrals and ions, excimers, and ultracold atoms. Book Spectral Lines The Theory of Line Shape in Astrophysics

Download or read book Spectral Lines The Theory of Line Shape in Astrophysics written by Lisa Fisher and published by Willford Press. This book was released on 2023-09-19 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Astrophysics is a branch of space science, wherein the laws of physics and chemistry are applied in order to understand the universe and its components. Spectral line shape refers to the shape of a feature observed in spectroscopy that represents an energy change in an ion, atom or molecule. The shapes and widths of spectral lines are effective instruments for absorbing and emitting gas diagnostics in various astrophysical objects. The absorption and emission lines of astrophysical objects are formed in a variety of kinematical and physical circumstances and at a distance from the observer. Data on spectral lines and their profiles is crucial for modeling, diagnostics and analysis of laser development and design, fusion plasma, and plasma produced through laser. It is also important for various plasmas in technologies such as the piercing and welding of metals by laser-produced plasma and plasma based light sources. This book provides comprehensive insights into the theory of spectral line shapes in astrophysics. Also included herein is a detailed explanation of the various roles and applications of spectral line shapes in astrophysics. This book is a vital tool for all researching and studying this area of astrophysics.

This book was released on 2017-03-24 with total page 364 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book presents an advanced tool for experimentalists using spectral lineshapes for diagnostics of laboratory or astrophysical plasmas, and for theorists helping the experimentalists in interpreting the experimental line profiles. It significantly expands the scope of parameters of plasmas and/or fields in it that can be measured. For some parameters, the book presents new, more advanced diagnostic methods than the methods covered in the previous books.

Book Theories of Spectral Line Shape

Download or read book Theories of Spectral Line Shape written by R. G. Breene and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 1981-02-26 with total page 376 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Discusses three general formulations for theoretical description of spectral line broadening (resolvant, Liouville space, and Feynman diagram) and their application to certain important broadening problems. After a study of the line broadening that arises from the interaction of radiator with its own electromagnetic field, author presents each technique in turn. Last three chapters devoted to principal problems involving either the motion of radiator relative to observer or the presence of other particles in neighborhood of the radiator.
